HI everyone,

just curious if anyone uses or has ever used a neti pot? It was mentioned since I have a horrible time with my sinuses, my nose almost always stuffed and then goes to my ears. I am very allergic to dust and mites along with cats and dogs. I was given med's, but don't want o take them and be buzzed or sleepy all the time. I think this stuffed feeling contributes to the spacines/ dizzy and fogginess feeling I get at times. My nose has been buring for 2 weeks especially when bending over, as if I dived into a pool and got chlorine in it. I had no idea what a neti pot was...and now that I do it looks rather strange, but am willing to give it a go if it works. Anyone.....Thanks mikki

by the way I have used nasal saline sprays and they work for about 10 minutes.

I've not tried it but I've heard many good things about it and if I'm not mistaken there is someone on this board that does use it and raves about the results so... hopefully they will jump in and answer your questions.

good luck with it, I know you must be miserable. I have mild allergies and all my sniffling drives me crazy but it's not to the point of burning or making me dizzy. I have heard netti-pots are somewhat odd to use but I've heard that if you use one once, you'll never use anything else again.

lHi sunflower:

My mom and two of her friends use the neti pots and are thrilled with them. My mom says that she uses it in the morning and it lasts her most of the day. She is so happy with it that I am considering buying one for my son who suffers horribly from allergies.

I have used it and yes, it does clean out the sinuses and help you feel better. I dont' use it as often as I should, but when I do, I am happy I did. Good luck.

I use one and love it.

I am not particularly congested. But something like this might make my nose feel better. Sometimes it gets a little runny when it gets overwhelmed by dust. A simple washing like this might do the trick.

I heard good things about it and I tried it and nothing really happened.....I was trying to see if my headache situation was a sinus situation. I've heard many people have great results so I would try in anyway.

Hi and thanks again for the info.

An update...I have been using the squeeze bottle 2x a day, a alternative to the pot, and I can say I have seen results. It still isn't the most pleasant feeling I have had, but is worth it if it keeps my nose clear for most of the day. I have used steroid sprays and saline sprays and they work for about an hour on me and then I am back to that stuffy feeling, but this truly keeps me pretty clear up until about an hour till I am scheduled to do it again...about 12 hrs. between washes. My nasal drip is also gone after 20 min or so of doing it where as before I went through 3 or so hr's of swallowing my own yekkkk. I do, for about 20 min. afterwards, feel like someone turned a faucet on and then it tapers off and I feel clear. I don't have a problem with infections just dust allergies that seem to make my nose always feel like there is cotton stuffed in it...it is hard to breath in and I certainly can't blow it as nothing comes out only puts pressure on my ears. I called the toll free line ( I bought the neilmed) and talked with someone there and she said it would probably take a few days of consistant use to really see good results if I am really stuffed up. It did seem by the 4 or so time of using it more drained out like maybe it was slowly over time breaking the stuff down. Anyway I will continue using it and can at least reccomend at this point that if you are stuffy regularly to at least give it a try...I also noticed for the first time in years I woke up breathing through my nose and it wasn't all dry and ....well won't get gross on everyone here...it was just very clear. Thanks Mikki

I just started using the Neti Pot. It has made a big difference for me already. I don't wake up in the mornings with a stuffy nose. No more itchy red eyes. For the first time in the while, the whites of the my eyes are actually white. The dark circles around my eyes are starting to fade and the lids don't have that heavy puffy look.

I have used Neilmed's squeeze bottle and I much prefer my netipot. After you do your rinse, you should bend forward and rotate your head from side to side blowing gently to blow the remaining saline out of your sinuses. That way you shouldn't have to swallow anything.

Himalayan Institute has a great video on youtube that shows how to properly use a netipot. If you search Himalayan Institute Neti Pot Demo you should find it. Also, I know they say to use tap water but I always keep a bottle of distilled water or I boil my own. I still use Neilmed's pre-measured packets too.

While it is not the most comfortable feeling when using it is quite helpful in my opinion. I have allergies and sinus issues and this helps lessen them.

What's funny is that I have read a lot about neti pots, how the ladies here have ranted and raved about them, so I recommended them to two of my good friends, they swear by them now. I guess maybe I should buy one now!!!LOL Shelley
