Is there an emoticon for sleepy? God It's morning finally Ladies!

I'm so tired of this! mad.gif Everyday I go thruout the day so sleepy I can hardly, and don't most of the time, hold my eyes open! I CAN SLEEP during the day!!! But at nite, I wake up every hour or half-hour. I've turned my clock around , I've taken stuff to help me sleep, it gives me horrid nitemares! I've stayed awake all day, I've gardened, exercised, done errands,, and still wake up! And while I am sleeping, I have dreams dreams dreams!!! some of the craziest dreams! I woke up irratated this morning , because I dreamed!ANYONE else doing this???? unsure.gif huh.gif And I dreamed my 5yr old granddaughter was coming in wanting me to dress her , then before I'd get to her socks, she'd get up and I'd have to yell for her to come back and put them on! And she was in a BIG sweater, and shorts! Then, I was putting on my grown daughter's socks for her (I don't have a clue why??) and she wouldn't cooperate either!!!!and I got so mad! Then I couldn't find two of the same socks and she had two and three socks stuffed inside each other and I was trying to put them on her feet!!! blink.gif I finally got two different ones on her, and the whole time I was fussing about it and she didn't even act like she heard me or cared!!!( yes, I know it sounds nutz!) She was quit happy just to have two on, and got up like a child and ran off! Then I woke up and was still in an irratable mood!!!(shrug!!!) I have dreams like this all the time, stupid stuff, scarey stuff, romantic stuff with ppl I'd NEVER have a romance with!!!, it's aweful! I'd just like some restful sleep!!!!When will that come back??? I'm 50 , single, only have a doggy and kitty! I sleep alone in a darkened room , cool, and cooler when the nite sweats are on, raised my head of the bed because of GERD, two pillows, one pillow, no pillow! I've tried everything!!!HELP!!!

I hear ya...... My average night goes like this....I take melatonin because it helps me get to sleep at least. But then about 3 hours later (yes I do at least get about 3 hrs a night of uninterupted sleep) I start the trips to the bathroom. Then I can't get comfortable. I mess around with the pillows (yes I have GERD also) My arms ache, my hips hurt. I am hot, then I am cold. Toss around for about an hour then I go to sleep.....to wake up in about an hour after that to (you guessed it) go to the bathroom again. Then I start all over again.
pemmy
Toss and turn all night long, too. Get up several times to pee. Lay in bed worrying I will get a heart palp. Have racing thoughts. Woke up this morning all achey. Pam
Mocca15
I wake up about every two hours. Then, of course, need to get up and go to the bathroom, and then try to get comfortable again so that I can get another two hours of sleep... It's a cycle I'm all too familiar with these days. I don't have any good answers unfortunately. I'm not waking up because of hot flashes, and even if I take xanax or something else to help me sleep, the cycle continues. mad.gif

I had a full night's sleep the other night it was such a lovely feeling to wake up feeling refreshed.

Then I tried to remember when I had last slept right through the night. (I couldn't)

It must be several months. I wake every night, often around 3:00am but I can also wake
every couple of hours as well.

The joys of menopause

I watch my husband sleeping and sometimes feel so jealous, that he gets to sleep all night.

Oh I agree with all of you. Last night I made it until 11 and fell asleep for a whole hour and a half!!!! then awake tossing and turning for another hour and ahalf. Finally I nodded off and woke up again around three for an hour and then finally got up at 5:30. the day will be lousy, I know I will feel the effects from it. My head will feel funny, eyes will bother me, etc. It is miserable. I've tried benydryl, and it helps a little, but not much.

OH the joys of menopause.

joniTX50, afraid I'm a sometime member of the fractured sleep club.

Although it does come and go. I'll go for quite a while with pretty good sleep and then have a spell of waking and not being able to get back to sleep.

Last night was so cold here that when I got in bed i had to put a blanket over me to get to sleep. Then, you've guessed it, in the middle of the night I'm waking up far too hot. I was dreaming that I put on a dress and for some reason I couldn't get it off. In my dream I was getting hotter and hotter and more uncomfortable and then of course I woke up hot and needing to take the blanket off and hang my legs out of the covers. Then it took ages to cool down and so I was awake for about an hour and a half. I ate a banana went to the bathroom and finally got back to sleep. I think bananas are a good middle of the night snack because of the tryptophan.

I take 5htp to help with sleep and last year when the waking/ hot flushes lasted way too long I had acupuncture.

Oh my goodness...this is me all over! This is my latest problem..

Started with an UTI that kept me up all night because I skipped my first period (I think the hormonal balance got thrown off and then I got the UTI) anyway and ....then the symptoms continued thought the infection was gone and up all night peeing and then the symptoms FINALLY went away but the up and down and toss and turn and all that over and over and over all night....good grief, it is such a RELIEF to FINALY get up in the morning...sleeping is sure tiring!

I see the doctor this thursday to see if I might get a bit of help with that....from this thread, looks like sleep aids work for some but not for all sad.gif ....Joan

Oh yes, like Joan I had an infection a while back and when I woke up would be going to the loo again and again. I hadn't put the two together but now I think about it when the infection got cleared up with antibiotics the peeing in the night eased up too? I lost count of the number of nights I spent thumping my pillow.

I am a life long insomniac, and know that there is nothing worse than TRYING to go to sleep.

So I gave up and take Ambien CR.

Drugged sleep for me is better than no sleep at all. But I have been on Crazy meds my whole life, and I'm used to taking all kinds of drugs, just to get through a day (and night) like a normal person does.

There is a supplement called ZMA, which is a combination of Zinc monomethionine aspartate and Magnesium Aspartate and Vitamin B6 that may help you sleep more soundly. My husband uses this, and sleeps like a log.

Go bed 10pm wake 2pm (not really full awake just that horrible feeling not full asleep either) until alarm goes off 5.30
stitchnanny
I am there too. I can fall asleep pretty fast but am only asleep about one hour before the tossing, turning, peeing, and sweats begin. I sleep for about 20 mins then awake for 10 to 15 and so on all the dang night!!!!!!!!

Thanks Ladies for all the replies, and sympathy and empathy! huh.gif Not many answers out there huh? I have tried some things differently for the past few nites and days, I let up on my anti-anxiety meds , went to half of my usual and not as sleepy in the daytime, but a little more nervous! (Trade one misery for another)! wink.gif and started drinking lemonade and water in the evenings instead of iced tea which is what "us Texans " LOVE!!! all the time!

Managed to stay awake the past two days, the first nite still couldn't get to sleep till 3am, but then slept 5 hours! Then, last nite , I slept 4 hours and woke up once to pee, then 4 more! Then today I took my Mom to the doctor's office and stayed awake most of the day but around 6pm I just HAD to lay down! I was so tired! so I layed down two hours wasn't sleeping all that time just resting. Don't know what time I'll be going to sleep tonite!

Ya know, just hearing others tell me that they too have been going thru it , even tho no clear answers , somehow makes one feel better! Not trying to be mean by that, just that knowing someone else knows what that's like , it's not just ME! somehow makes it all better, like a Mommy kissing the boo boo! tongue.gif

Thanks Ladies!

I sleep when I get home from work. Up till bed time. Wake up in the middle of the night all the time. Finally get back in sleep, just in time for the alarm to go off. dry.gif

I'm a member of this club also. Although I have know trouble falling asleep, after 3 hours I wake up. If I don't take an Adivan at that time, I'm up for most of the night, tossing and turning. I hate to rely on drugs, but I hate not sleeping more. Mary
Webalina
My situation is just a tad different. I can't go to sleep at a reasonable hour. No matter what time I get up, I'm up until 3 or 4am every night. A couple of days ago, I was up for 40 hours straight, with only a 1/2 hour nap in between.

Once I finally do get to sleep, I can sleep as much as 11 hours at a time. Then I feel groggy and awful, but I can't seem to wake up before that. But if I don't get that 11 hours, I STILL I feel like someone beat me up -- dragging and napping and unfocused all day. I'm not working at the moment (another reason for stress, believe me), so I don't have to get up early. But I have a clock set for 9:am just so I don't sleep the day away. Doesn't do any good. I just turn it off, roll over and go back to sleep.

If I don't get over this, I'm not going to be worth dragging out of bed when I go back to work.
ptpayne50
I also have trouble sleeping. I go to bed around 9:00 fall asleep and wide awake around 11:00 or midnight and can't go back to sleep. I may doze for a minute or too, but then wide awake with racing thoughts. I started taking calcium and magnesium liquid form before I go to bed. It has helped. The hormonal imbalance in our bodies mess with the cortisol which affects our sleep and apparently the magnesium is needed. Also, Valerian root before bed and chamomile tea.

Oh thank you so much for that - to know there will be an end to this awfulness

I can fall asleep instantly for 2 maybe 3 hours then its the toss turn sweat chill pee toss turn sweat ........... I'm sure you all understand

I tend to wake every hour at 14 mins past the hour - weird but hey ho whats not weird about this whole meno thing

then after a few days of this I will try something - last time I gave up caffine - slept from 8.30pm right thru til 4am for a quick pee then back til 7am alarm and i think - yeah I've cracked it but in truth it's probably only the fact that I am totally exhausted and the next night its back to the hourly wake up - yawn

still avoiding the caffine and also now taking soy stuff but either I will sleep or I won't don't much care anymore will just lay there and know it will end one day

THANK YOU
Polgara
I am also a member of the fractured sleep club. I haven't had a period for six months and during this time I have been able to fall asleep but not stay asleep long enough (I think) for any truly restorative sleep. I have been waking up three or four times per night, usually every 2-2.5 hours. I'm thrilled when I sleep 3 hours and ecstatic on those rare occasions if I somehow manage 4 in a row. I generally do not have to get up to go the bathroom when I wake up. Unfortunately, after I do wake up, I start feeling warm enough to kick off the covers and then when I cool off I pull the covers back up and usually am able to go back to sleep. It's normally only about a five minute thing, but now, it's becoming more like fifteen to twenty before I go back to sleep and then it all starts over again until around 6:00 AM when I finallly just get up. I've wondered if somehow my body is "preparing" for a hot flash during my sleep and that is what keeps waking me up. I've also noticed that if I lie down during the day and kind of doze, I'll wake up to a mini-flash.

I believe someone mentioned that this same pattern continues even when they take sleep medication and I have noticed this as well, but then again I only take a Tylenol PM once in a while when I really want to sleep, or when I'm really tired because I can occasionally get up to four hours in a row sometimes if I'm really tired to begin with when using it. I try to take it rarely so I won't build up a tolerance to it and have to increase the dosage or go to something stronger

I had a bout of insomnia about 1 1/2 years ago where, I kid you not, I didn't sleep at all for two weeks straight. I thought I was going to go coo-coo. I was so fatigued during the day, I don't know how I made it through work. Now I have snippets/snatches of sleep. I pretty much wake up every hour, then I get the biggie every night between 1-2am where I wake up with a racing heart, petrefied to move. I have to talk sense to myself in order to make it to the bathroom, because I always have to pee! mad.gif

I had a normal night of sleep about a week ago and it was heavenly. Other than that I can fall asleep fine usually, then I awaken a few hours later after dreaming. Lots of dreams all night long. When I wake I go pee, trying not to open my eyes too much so I don't get too wakeful and then back to bed for maybe another hour or two of sleep and the cycle repeats. Its awful. I really hate to see nightime come. How I long for the wonderful sleep of my youth.

Hi There,
I sorry you ladies have trouble sleeping.

Its not nice when you lay awake and think horrible thoughts.

Every now and then I cant sleep o I get up, have a glass of ater and try to go back to sleep. Sometimes it works and sometimes not.

It can be so annoying not being able to nod off when you want to.

Happy Dreams Ladies.

Take Care From Deb.

Ah, the no-sleep club! Yes, I am here again, and for two weeks I have a sleep aid, mild from the doctor. Took about a week to kick in...don't know if this is normal or not and I do sleep through most the time or just get up once....do I feel any better or any better rested? NO....see doctor again on Thursday...nothing like getting a"good night's sleep" and still feeling like you've been run over by a Mack truck.....Joan

Love your name!It just about sums it all up.I love my sleep and am a wreck without my 8 hours.Don't like taking sleeping pills but I am for as long as needed.I have got a product called Still Nox from my Pharmacist. She gave me 10mg but I cut it in half and it really does help. Before I take it I have a quick warm, not hot, soak and sip a cup of warm milk with honey. So far so good.Of course I don't wish to get addicted but for now whatever works is good for me.
Some people swear by Valerian,a natural herb available in any Health Store. You might give that a try.
Wish you well and sincerely hope you get some relief

I thought I would just add my little bit concerning sleeping. I have never been the most amazing sleeper in other words have not needed to sleep the recommended 8 hours. Now well what can I say. I am almost asleep by 10 o clock even watching my favourite TV programme then I tell myself . OK go to sleep because now would be a good time since you feel so sleepy. Would you believe two hours later I am awake and ready to run. Only to find that I feel exhausted and hour later and then cant sleep until about 2.30 . By the time I need to get up for work I am absolutely like a wreck. One o clock in the afternoon I need to sleep so badly and there I am at work.

My newest thing is dreaming and nightmares. Tell me I am not alone in all this. How on earth are we expected to cope with our day at work when we dont sleep properly. At the moment I am on leave and so it is wonderful to be able to lie down when I feel like it but soon I go back and wont be able to do it.

The tiredness is overwhelming. I have to tell you what is very strange. When all this first started about six years ago. It all started with tiredness and I suddenly noticed that I hardly yawn. Even now I am so tired and very seldom yawn. This to me is most strange. Anyone also feel finished and yet hardly ever yawn. You might think it strange that I am asking such a question but people yawn when they are tired dont they?

I have by the way tried lavender, camomile tea.

While I am on the subject I also find that since the symptoms have come back with a vengeance I am also suffering from my ears ringing and when I bend over to pick up something I here this strange woosh noise in my ears almost like the sea waves going woosh woosh. What on earth is happening?

Love from Flying Fairy

I have the same problem, and it seems to be getting worse the crazier my cycles get. The only way I sleep through the night, is to have a glass of wine with dinner, then take 50 - 75 mg Elavil and a Unisom, and sometimes some Flexeril before bed. In other words, I can only sleep all night if I am stoned out of my mind, and then I wake up feeling so drugged! It used to be one Unisom did the trick. Not anymore. Now I take two. I go to sleep just fine most of the time, I'm so exhausted I literally pass out. But within an hour I am awake. Hot, cold, achy, can't get comfortable, toss, turn, doze then wake up again 30-60 minutes later. I gave up Caffeine a year or two ago, so that is not it. This is so frustrating. It used to be I could count on a good night sleep every third night. Not anymore. I suppose we could all get up and get online in the middle of the night just to find out how many of us are awake at any given moment?

Yep, I'm just like you!!!!!!!!! No matter what time I go to bed I find myself awake until the wee hours of the morning. Then I can't get up in the morning. I use to set my clock for 8. Then 9 a.m., then 10:00 a.m.--Now it is 10:30 a.m. I don't have to be at work until the afternoon so thank God that I have the mornings to try and get some sleep. It is horrible. I have a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep. Sometimes I'll finally fall asleep at about 2 or 3 in the morning. Then I will wake up and feel totally refreshed thinking I have slept all night. I have room darkening drapes in my bedroom so it is always dark. Then I will look at the clock and it is only 5 a.m. Then I thnk--shoot, now I have to try and fall asleep and for at least a couple of more hours. My husband is getting so sick and tired of this. He goes to bed at 9 or 10 and falls instantly asleep and is awake at the crack of dawn and wants me to get up with him and be chipper and happy. I am so frustrated I want to scream!!!! So--I know how you feel cause I am going through it to.
