Hello,
Anybody out there have RLS (restless leg syndrome)? Just wondering if my aching, burning, tingling legs could be that. Although, it does not get worse at night. My mom has RLS and I heard you can inherit it. My legs realy ache. Does RLS cause aching? During the day?
Please chime in if you can relate....I need HELP !!!!
Thanks so much
Janet

Hi, Janet - I seem to go through episodes of leg/arm burning. About 5-6 six years ago, when I was 45-46 (I'm 51 now), I had intense arm/leg burning, and it was completely new to me - and honestly, I felt like my limbs were on fire. I went to the doctor, and he said that I had "idiopathic neuropathy" and thought that it would pass. It did.

But, it has revisited me, to a much lesser degree, now and then. Lately, I've had more of it, combined with aching muscles, etc. It just has to be hormonal - at least, I don't know why something like this would suddenly happen to me, at this point in my life.

My legs don't seem to be restless, but they do sometimes ache during the day.

Count me in here also. My legs are burning and tingling on and off periodically again now since I have become stressed again, well when aren't I stressed these days with all these symptoms. I have extreme muscle tension in my lower body so maybe this is something to do with the burning sensation I get some nights while trying to relax off to sleep, maybe my muscles are releasing all the toxins they have accumulated during the day dry.gif . I don't particularly have restless legs but I do move them often to find the elusive cold spot to cool them off when they are like this. Also I feel I have a fluid retention problem in my legs as when I crouch down or try to kneel on my legs the skin feels so tight like it will split and when I get up my legs tingle for a few seconds like a stingy feeling. They don't look particularly fat or puffy but I can feel the change in them ever since I have been on my AD.

Anyone else have leg edema problems while taking an AD???

Hi Janet,
My beloved Mom suffered day as well with her legs. She also had a severe case of Vascular disease as well. She would get up and walk and walk and walk. I know it causes pain. I know how badly she would complain of it. It would bring tears to her eyes. She would sit and rub them continuously. I pray you don't have it too.
I do know that they are making clinical trial advances over here in Switzerland. Are you already in contact with a Dr. about it?

I believe there are some pretty good drugs out there now for RLS that control the symptoms. Worth a try if you are suffering with this.

Hi Sweet Bugaboo...... Did you or do you find the leg burning/stinging tingling thing was or is worse when you are stressed or very anxious or when hormones bottom out?? I have found a pattern emerging for mine. It really started approx 18months ago when I had a major meltdown from stress and hormones I suspect. It's worse in the early part of my cycle like between days 2 to 15 then eased off until I got my period again. I had a reprieve from the stress and started a mild AD and things settled down mainly because the anxiety subsided for many many months until this month when I've had a relapse of anxiety and hormone issues. Not sure why but maybe stress has a lot to do with it. The stingy tingly feeling is mainly in the fronts of my legs from top to bottom. My feet don't seem to be affected so much this time which is a bonus as I have been looking after them for a long time now. I had a massage the other day and this just exascerbated the symptoms in fact it started them up tenfold again after a long repreive. So many things are going through my mind now like MS, Lupus, neuropathy, fibromyalgia, Lymes, Hashimotos or some other autoimmune disorder or vascular disease etc etc and I don't know what to do about it. I am going to have to go back to the doctor this week and try a process of elimination to what he thinks it may be. When I had it before he said it was the anxiety causing the sensations and he may well be right and I sure hope he is right as this is the lesser of 2 evils. I only had it a short time when the anxiety got right out of control 18 months ago and as soon as I calmed down it went away but returned when my dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer but went away again once he had the all clear after his operation. It seems to start with intense muscle tension that I can never get rid of but this time it's started with the fear of why my legs feel so tight at skin level and never ending co-blended family stress and the massage treatment I should never had had. Like the saying goes don't fix something that ain't broke and I wish I had adhered to this before I had a trial of reflexology 2 months ago that started my never ending backache. Why would a foot massage create a backache you may ask, well I dont really know but it sure did and that night my whole lower body was on fire from it. Maybe it's telling me it doesn't like the hands on stuff. The reflexologist said I had a sciatica problem after he had pressed some tender spots in my lower back and hip area so this must have set off the sciatica. The back pain started about 1/2 an hour after the treatment so there must be some connection to all this now. I only went for treatment cos I wanted to do something nice for myself, nice huh, yea right look where it's got me now mad.gif . The leg sensations are worse when I wake in the morning with that dreaded early morning anxiety so maybe high cortisol is the culprit too. Funny thing is the back pain is not so bad these past few day since the cortisol is supposedly high again, maybe it's cancelling out the pain dry.gif who knows, I surely don't....

I've rambled on enough but I can't concentrate at all right now and I'm probably repeating myself so I apologise for that but I need to vent and hopefully find some insight to what is happening, again.

Count me in as another with this awful tingling and burning. My spine is very bad in the night with buzzing the whole length of it. All of the tingling is worse when I am on the edge of sleep, either falling or waking - I almost leap off the bed it is so severe. I walk around and it settles a bit, then starts up again. I am having so little sleep. I now have idiopatic gastroparesis, so have a neuro appt this week. I used to think it was anxiety but it is so bad now and the fatigue is crushing. I also get very dizzy after even a short walk, but have had this for years. I think I am two years post meno, but I have gone that far once before, and then had a bleed sad.gif I am 51.
What can we take ? Hormones, Elavil, Neurontin, Propranalol, RLS meds, pain meds - I have tried them all with no luck. We could overdose just trying to get some peace.

Hi ~K~ did you ever have a barage of tests to rule out all other possibilities of what could be causing this phenomenon? Mine has returned along with the anxiety after my terrible massage and reflexology experiences, I should have left well enough alone and I'm kicking myself everyday for being so stupid. I'm certain there must be an anxiety component here as it is worse when really anxious and lessons off and goes away when no anxiety but then I have been continually anxious this past week so there has been no let up and now it has moved to my lower arms. I have a doctor appt today so I am even more anxious than usual as what he is going to say about it, I can see him rolling his eyes and tut tutting now laugh.gif . I have been my own worst enemy these past days by googling anything and everything and working myself into a frenzy wacko.gif but this is what we seem to do when nothing makes sense anymore. Someone told me there are many Estrogen receptors in the skin surface as well as everywhere else so maybe it's just a plain old hormone related problem, if it is I suppose I can live with that for now as it's not as bad as the other options I have come up with.

How did your neuro appt go this week???

Hi, Rox! -- Oh, geez, it sure sounds like you've had a tough time with that nonsense! I DO believe that the sciatica could cause you alot of discomfort, and I'm assuming that's what you have - possibly along with "idiopathic" neuropathy (I'm assuming that your neuropathy comes and goes, kinda like mine does).

I tell ya, it's a TOTAL shock when a person's limbs suddenly start burning one day, for no obvious reason! Just like you've wondered if you have a serious condition, I've wondered THE SAME THING about myself!! When my doctor diagnosed the "idiopathic" neuropathy (which means it comes on a person, seemingly without reason), I was convinced it would never go away. It did, for the most part, but I still have episodes of it. But for awhile there, it was really awful - just MISERABLE to live with. My arms and legs felt like they were constantly on fire.

As to whether my nerves/stress has made my episodes worse, I just don't know. It could be hormonal . . .

That's really strange about the foot massage causing problems for your back! . . . Well, our nerves are a delicate network, so I don't doubt it that your foot massage might have brought on some nerve pain in other parts of your body.

That burning is miserable - so, I hope you have some relief, soon! Please keep me posted. smile.gif

Oh, I've had this, I've had this!! - the same thing, that tingling at night when I'm lying down in bed - and I didn't have any of this until about 4-5 years ago, seems like. I have to get up, too, because sometimes the tingling won't go away unless I get up and shake my hands and arms.

I'm 51, too, and had regular periods, except for a two-month skip last year - and now I'm 50+ days late right now, having had regular periods since that skip of last year.

I don't know what to make of any of this. It's a tough time, for sure. mellow.gif

I do the same thing, Rox - I google my symptoms until I fall to pieces. I'm my own worst enemy, sometimes.

I'm wondering how a massage and reflexology could have adversely affected you? Did you get a bad masseuse?
