It has only happend 4 or 5 times in the last 6 weeks or so but it has caught me off gaurd and I am starting to worry.
Out of the blue, usually when am sitting, I suddenly feel as if the horizon starts to tilt on me. It isn't exactly a dizziness but more than I am no longer in balance with my head. Whether or not that makes sense to anyone makes me wonder.
promised myself that if it happens again I would see a dr. but haven't. I am going to again give it just one last time.
I have never, ever before in my life experienced anything like this. I must admit, it really has me scared.
I don't see how this could be peri related but thought I'd give it a shot and post it here.
Thanks all

I understand completely how you feel! It's as if the world is in one position and you are in another? I can hear how nervous you are about this; I would really encourage you to see your doctor. You will feel better and so will we all.

What you describe can be caused by so many things: fluctuating hormones, dehydration, thyroid issues, moving the head or upper body too quickly... Chances are almost nil that it is anything serious.

So please see the doc and then let us know how you are?
Best,
Marcy

Hi Girlsmom,
Just after the period where I was experiencing serious feelings of panic and dreadful insomnia, I started experiencing this. For me it occurred at the time when I believe my ovaries finally shut down. It really was a very scary experience. I can remember getting out of bed and wandering through to the ensuite to use the loo. My perception of the horizon had deserted me and I had the terrible feeling that I was going to hit my head on the toilet bowl. The floor kept coming up to meet me and I felt that I had to sit down or fall down. When I finally made it back to the bed leaning back gave me surreal feelings of floating in space, yuk! Absolutely horrible. This went on for several days and trying to negotiate the stairs was a challenging and frightening experience. It was like flying an aircraft in fog with no compass, altimeter or height info.
I have never had this since. I cannot be sure that it was peri related. During peri, all the mucous membranes suffer badly and if you have a viral infection like flu, the ears and sinus areas do not recover well and this can lead to problems with the dizzies.
The key here is to keep one eye on your symptoms and visit your doctor if the symptoms worsen and persist whilst resisting the temptation to descend into a pit of despair, because you suspect that you are dying of some terrible disease. {Not as easy as it sounds!!!!}
Cheers,
XIII

Bless you Marcy for adding the "nil" into that. You do understand by your description. I'll give him a call on Monday....my Mother always told me that I should go get my head examined, that was my teenage years ;-), perhaps it is time.

Having it again right now...just ate chocolate (also noticed 4/5 times it is when I am at the table to eat). I don t allow my blood sugars to drop so can't imagine it is that. But yes, that plane coming in for the landing is a great description. It is as if I feel my eyes rolling but they are not. Subconscious stress perhaps.

girlsmom,
I was just chatting with someone and I went thru something similar...my whole balance felt off, then came a short hot flash.....I've been having a feeling out of balance on and off now but this was worse than my usual. I've not had a period in 13 months and have had so many other problems it's unbelievable. My breasts have been sore for over a month not too....plus many, other things going on.
Praying for us both.
Hugs,
Karen

Been busy surfing and it does say that dizziness is most commen when estrogen levels are low, like now during my period. I also am going on 4 days of headache. I felt SO great before my period started, the best I have felt in a long, long, to the 10th power, long time. This truly stinks.
The weather is HORRENDOUS here in Switzerland and wonder if also the air pressure is playing a pert. It is more like October weather. Blah....just plain blah.
It felt so great to be off the rollercoaster for a while.

this dizziness things has been horrible for me....or maybe it is not dizzy since that word is used to describe many sensations. When mine started a few years back I would just get this very quick feeling as if the room or if outside horizon tipped and came back to normal, my eyes felt like they would cross and my head felt weird...this was all in maybe 3 sec. and it would be gone for months. It was so infrequent I really never paid much attn or gave it much attn.
Then one morning (might add I was on a doosy of a period, very heavy) about 5ish I woke up an literally tipped over, I couldn't walk. The room was spinnning, I crawled around while my husband called the DR. and I eventually went to the ER where I was told I had labrynthitis...I said I was on a period...he didn't seem to think they were related. I did also wake up earlier that morning 2ish with a sore throat and my ears were muffled and when I talked my voice sounded to me tinny for lack of a better word. I was woosy for a few days after that and then it was gone, but it began my floaty, dizzy, vertigo, detached life.
I would get this off and on for a few months until I had an mri, that was normal although she said BPPV. Went to an eye DR. as it seemed my eyes wouldn't focus sometimes and seemed to feel jumpy, probably because they were trying to compensate and hold me still. This feeling continued... sometimes I felt like I would float away if I didn't hang on to something, sometimes when I would drive things looke like they were warping and the horizon was moving one way while everything else another, when I stopped at a light things would keep moving. I felt uncomfortable walking where I didn't have something to hold on to as it seemed like I was walking on a waterbed or the ground was mushy and moving under me. I went to an ent...nothing and went to an allergist and found I was highly allergic to dust and mites, cat and dogs...suprise. A year plus ago this feeling started to come all the time and I was like that for a few months, then it let up some and now comes in a cycle for the most part....what ever that is some months. I stopped driving and became agoraphobic with the help of this off balance feeling, I say help because not everyone become agoraphobic with dizziness so part of it was my already high anxiety. I will say I notice it before a period and it is bad if my ears and nose feel stuffed which is often. My husband is allergic to outside pollens and he says it probably is the same feeling he gets when his allergies act up...he gets woozy, detached and floaty...the differenc is it scares the crap out of me. I have noticed for a week now it has been elavated, I haven't felt this dizzy, spacy this long in a while.....oddly the humidity went up and I have been sneezing, my eyes and ears itch like crazy, my nose is stuffy(whats new) and my ears are muffled...is it related. I also was on some swings just before this episode and was swinging high with my eyes closed and my head tipped back....maybe if it is BPPV I rocked those ear rocks out of place.....I don't know I will never figure it out.
I would get it checked for sure...unfortunatly you may not get your answers, see when it it is bad, what you ate what were you doing, change in position and so on....I am hypoglycemic too so I watch my blood sugar and there is a big difference between low blood sugar spaciness and what I have described. My grandma said dizziness was her worst symptom of meno. and my husbands stepmom said she had to pull over sometimes because it was so bad, now his sister 45ish went to the dr. because she is dizzy. Keep us posted hugs Mikki

Thank you ever so kindly Mikki,
It is exactly that horizon image that you described.
I should have been back to the eye Dr., lets say 4 or 5 years ago already. Stupidly instead I bought a pair at the drug store and I know from everyone that they can make you eyes worse. I have my old Perscription on today and wonder if my *lazy (astigmatism) eye is throwing me off too.
Time for a *tune-up*.
I do feel better with all this wonderful reassurance but that will not stop me from getting this checked out for peace of mind. It has me preoccupied and naturally not in the best mood because of it. I'm feeling tense anddon't want to be on that road again!
Kiss...

you are very welcome, I just came back to add this whole sensation got bad about the time my periods went wacky and hotflashes reared their ugly head....I wear glasses too and at that time was prescribed bi-focals...sadly it didn't help much becuase I think some of it is or was hormonal. I recieved a 3 month symptoms tracker from women internatinal pharmacy and dizziness is one of the symptoms on their tracking list soooo......HUGS Mikki

Hi girlsmom, well I have had pretty much the exact same crash this month and also during my period. I was feeling on top of the world before my period rushing around like a mad woman getting things done with vigour I hadn't had in a long while, then
BAM,
day 3 of my period, I hit the wall, I'm still trying to pick myself up from that mushy heap now. I have the lightheaded thing back with a vengeance even though it has been with me for over 2 yrs anyway. My muscles are super tight which the latest massage experience just made a zillion times worse, health anxiety is through the roof, anxiety in general is through the roof and oh that dreaded morning feeling, oh how I HATE that one

. Everything is leaning towards an Estrogen drop but it's hard to know where Estrogen dominance leaves off and Estrogen deficiency starts up as the symptoms are very much alike. One thing I haven't had in a long while is breast tenderness so I'm maybe leaning towards the E deficiency now???

or E dominance

???, oh I give up.......
Oh how I just wish it would all just go away
