Hi there everyone,
I will be getting some BHRT in the mail very soon. My doctor prescribed one oil based capsule of E/P/T to be taken twice a day. I was hoping she would just give me one hormone at a time to see how I react but she said that is very expensive and the dose she gave me is very low and I should try this first. I haven't been cycling regular for about a year now so does it matter that I take progesterone every day??? I had two different blood panels done and it seems my three estrogens were in the normal range although my FSH/LH were post menopausal range and my progesterone was 0.45 (not sure but I think low) and my testosterone was 18 and my testosterone free was <0.6 which was very very low.
My worst symptoms are mood swings, terrible muscle spasms and aches, zippo libido, chills to the bone (cold sensitivity), dry skin, and no energy.
Has anyone used the bios in this way and if so how did you react?

Hi Corky,
I take my bioidentical hormones seperately and like it better that way (I did try combined for awhile), but your doctor is right--it is very expensive. Since your estrogen isn't that low, maybe this combination will work for you. I think you should give it a try--but just remember that you have to be patient; it can take a few weeks to a month to feel better and you may have to tinker with the dosages, etc. before you get everything balanced. Are you going to take your hormones continuously or have an off-week every four weeks or so?

Hi Skiergirl,
She never told me to stop a week; she said take this combo for 4-6 weeks and even if my symptoms are worse to stay on for at least 4-6 weeks and then if I'm not satisfied to call her with any problems. So you are doing well on the bio regimen you are on? What were your worse symptoms and how long before you felt balanced?

I'm feeling good right now! I'm on the Climara .1 mg patch, supplemented (when necessary) with compounded estradiol cream. I take Prometrium (progesterone) for 10 days a month. When I stop the Prometrium I get a period. Actually, even if I delay the Prometrium I still usually get the period every 26 days. For the last 3 weeks I've also been taking some compounded testosterone cream even though I didn't have any symptoms of low T (but my bloodwork showed I was a little low). I have to say that I've been feeling better since I started the T--it seems to have balanced everything better. My worst symptoms were anxiety and burning face (and sometimes back) when my estrogen dropped too low. It's taken me several months to get balanced though I felt better right away when I started on the bioidenticals. I'm a competitive athlete and when I'm training I find that I need more estrogen (I burn it up I guess). I'm training hard now and I'm still feeling pretty good so I'm happy. It sounds like your doctor has a reasonable approach. Let us know how you do.

When I started all of this I was chille to the bone too. It felt like I had ice water running through my veins. I've played with Bios for over a year now but havne't really found a dose that feels right but the chills have gone away. I think it had less to do with hormones and more to do with a diet change. I stopped eating gluten and all processed foods. That minimized most of my symptoms. Then again... I think I take just enough of the hormones to also help so it could be them.
I should have some new scripts coming in in the next week or so. The T should be there today. (Yaa! ! I'm excited). The other two.. estradiol and progesterone were messed up. I want the generics (because they are cheaper) and she ordered the brand names. The generics for all three are $20. (or $6.69 each) the brands are $150. The only difference is the delivery method. Outrageous.

I had to contact my insurance's compounding pharmacy and talk with them direct to find the cheapest route but it's worth it in the long run.

Thanks for the information. I got mine yesterday and I started today on the first dose. I don't know the names b/c it only says on my invoice, P-E2 0.25/E3 1/P 50/TE 2.5. I have to take twice a day so I think is comes out as: Estradiol .50mg, Estriol 2 mg, Progesterone 100 mg and testosterone 5 mg. My total was $48.30 w/o shipping so I'm not sure what brands were used. I asked the pharmacist about having the bios separate to work with first, but she said that was more expensive and the way I have it was the cheapest. I got them from a Wisconsin Compounding Pharmacy. Now I just wait and see how I feel, right?

Hi Corky,
Good luck with your new Bio's. I'm glad that you are getting good feedback from others, it really helps to hear different experiences.
I've used the bio's for over 2.5 yrs now. I just turned 50, so I began the bio's at approx 48. I was still having regular periods (although things were changing more and more).
I am able to use the hormones seperately. I use a transdermal estrogel, .75mg twice daily (this works very well for me). At the begining I started with .50mg of oral estrogen, and had to increase it to 1mg in order to feel better (more energy etc.). I've used the progesterone both ways, cycling and static, if you can tolerate the progesterone well, then it's not an issue. For me, the P made me more tired.
As for the T, this is wonderful for good energy. I use a cream and I feel that I have to adjust my dosage, sometimes I use it only twice a week. I do notice that I have to be very careful, it can be overdone and I will feel "assertive" or "tense".
My worst symptoms have been "fatigue", just tired and can't do the as much. I've also experienced the REALLY cold hands and feet also, very chilled feeling. This seems to come and go. I've also started to experience many odd aches and pains within my neck, shoulder and all that fun stuff with age.
Keep us posted, I hope you feel much better.

Thanks Juliann. I am really hoping these bios will get rid of my aches/pains and moods and boost my libido. So far after 4 days I haven't noticed any change, nor have I felt any new symptoms. I guess in time either I will feel better or worse and either stay on them or go off and feel awful until this whole mess ends.
