Hi all,I would like to ask,how do you know wether to take progesterone.I've heard alot of women on PS use it to relieve symptoms and I'm wondering if it will help me.My GP won't test my hormone levels as the last time saw him,he said I was too young,I'm 42,and since last seeing him I've missed 2 periods, which he doesn't know about.I bought some natural progesterone cream online but haven't used any yet, since skipping periods I'm not sure how the dosage works. My GP's diagnosed me with anxiety, which I'm not taking medication for,he's booked me in for a session with a councellor,so I really hope that helps.I have good and bad days. Most days I feel lightheaded, off balance, full pressurised feeling in my head, aching neck&back,in short I just don't feel RIGHT.
This forum board has been a great help to me,so thank you all for any advice you can give. Pippi.x.

trial and error.each person reacts differently.in my case it did nothing to help me so i got off the progesterone suppositoies.consult a doctor you trust before doing anything.agyn might be more helpful than a gp.

Just be very careful when you start it if you decide to try it. Listen to your body, watch for any changes good an bad and weigh them up. In my experience and my observations of people I personally know in person who are using it it seems to work best for the women who are nearing post or are post rather than the ones who are in peri.

The symptoms you described as having are the symptoms I acquired from using P cream which my doc said is from the anxiety it caused me to have. The only time in my life I have ever had anxiety like that is when I was taking the BCP in my late teens and early 20s. The online cream will probably not have the same amount of P as the prescribed bio-identical cream has.

My doc won't test my hormone levels either as he thinks I'm too young, I'm nearly 42.

I would suggest not using progesterone unless you have documented via tests that you are low on progesterone. If you can't be tested for some reason, then you should at least have obvious low progesterone symptoms, the main one IMO is irregular periods but with normal flow.

I was put on projesterone aftetr skipping several periods and hot flashing like crazy. Dr. was trying to avoid build up of endometrium tissue. Well, I ended up having D and C plus hsteroscopy 3 weeks ago or so because I was bleeding very heavily all of a sudden. Nothing but a good report and now I am back on Prometrium on the 14th day of my cycle, for 10 days each month. Hate the stuff as it makes me feel bloated and depressed but I guess for this short time I will be taking it the preventative measures out weigh the cons. I go back to Dr. on 23rd of this month for normal gyno exam and bloodwork to test levels.
