Armadillo,

I know you probably didn't mean for this to be funny, but it was.

Gave me a real chuckle........... one I have not had in a very long time!

THANKS A BUNCH!

You're welcome! I didn't realize the humor at first either, although I'm glad you enjoyed it.

After I re-read that, I realized that the ovaries are sometimes removed along with the uterus, but you don't need those for feeling sexual arousal, either.

Here I am again!
I Responded to another thread on a similar theme last night!
I had endo cancer over 2 years ago. I was and am still not allowed estrogen apart from a tiny bit of estriol cream for dryness. Completely lost my sex drive after hyst and ovaries removed. Was given a small course of testosterone treatment and I had an immediate return of sexual feelings including really strong orgasms!!!
I am still not using any estrogen so the conclusion is
testosterone=libido
estrogen=not much to do with it apart from keeping vagina supple
I would not lie to you
You dont need estrogen! I feel great without it! smile.gif
The symptoms of low estrogen are absolutely as stated by kar4242-but it is the transition from high to low that causes the symptoms.
I dont have any of them now although I did when I first had my op! I had no choice about whether or not to take HRT. I wasn't allowed it so I just had to be patient. I am glad of it now-I feel better than I have done in years

I hate to sound like a guy, but this, I think, best describes testosterone. A car without gas will not go no matter how hard or long you push on the gas pedal. You can wish as hard as you want, but without gas, it's just going to sit there. Testosterone is what fuels our sexual beings: the ability to desire sex, lubricate and orgasm. Put gas in the car and it goes! Put testosterone in our bodies and "Watch Out World"!!!!

I have had testosterone pellets for 4 years now. And my sex drive is still better than in my whole life! I just got my estrogen and test pellets last week. My last insert before that was estrogen in Dec and test in April. So I was ready. Already, my breasts are fuller and nipples are more responsive again. And my libido is back to wow!

My lady parts can still get tingly, but on occassion sensation has dulled...*sigh*

I also am having this problem. I'm 44 and it started at 42:( My orgasms are hard to achieve and are 25% as strong as they used to be. I went a couple months last year when they were painful- it was like a huge muscle cramp happened when I had an orgasm.

I think my estrogen to progesterone ratio is causing mine. I was on birth control pills for 2o yrs. One time. my Dr gave me stronger birth control pills for free samples becasue he was out of my usual kind. (He always gave us ladies 2 free months of pills at our yearly exam) That's what I feel like then- the way I do now. No sex drive ever and horrible weak orgasms or painful orgasms.

So I know going from a BCP that was 1. progesterone and .35 estrogen to a pill that was 1.progesterone and .50 estrogen threw my sex life into turmoil years ago.

I think my estrogen is sky high actually. I am breaking out in hives and itching every damn month for the last couple years. It's always the 5 days before my period and the 3 days around ovulation. I turn bright red in my face and itch from head to toe LOL!

And I think my progesterone is in the dirt. I'm having horrible adrenal problems and my cortisol and aldosterone levels are dangerously low in blood tests and those hormones are made from progesterone! No progesterone means no adrenal hormones:( So, I have low blood pressure and low body temperature and no energy and horrible orgasms LOL! Menopause and peri-menopause are extremely stressful LOL!

At menopause I lost about 95% of my sexual sensitivity; it was as if a "mute" button had been pressed. And with that, I lost 100% of my libido--no sexual urges, fantasies, dreams . . . For three years I tried various cures, none of which helped: vaginal estrogen suppository (Vagifem) (which gave me internal lubrication but nothing else), testosterone patch and testosterone cream (which made my face break out, but nothing else), estrogen-progesterone patch (which got rid of my hot flashes and maintained inner lubrication but nothing else), stimulating creams and gels like arginine (which produced a burning sensation but nothing else), and vibrators (which produced an orgasm so small it barely induced heavy breathing and was about as sexual as a sneeze).
Then I went to a new gynecologist, who told me that EXTERNAL estrogen cream was often the way to go. Even though my external genitalia looked normal, low levels of estrogen had drastically reduced blood flow there. The Vagifem, which works topically inside the vagina, wouldn't help with this, and providing low-level systemic estrogen of my estrogen-progesterone patch (Combipatch) was a very indirect and not very efficient means of restoring the tissues and blood circulation in the vulva. I got a compounded natural estrogen cream, and just a week's application of it to the external genitalia every day has made a dramatic difference in both sexual sensitivity and libido. After three years of frustration for both me and my partner, this seems like a miracle. I have read so many posts from people on this site who have lost their libido at menopause and are miserable on account of it, so I wanted to let people know. Although I guess there are different causes for loss of libido at menopause, this is one people might consider.

What cream are you using and how much are you using a day? I have been using estriol cream (in the same way as you describe)after almost 3 years of no estrogen following cancer. I am having trouble coping with the side effects and at present if anything my libido has reduced. I only use a small amount-about half a pea size of 0.01% estriol every day for the past month. It helps with sensation but I am not really ever "in the mood". I feel as though my head is filled with cotton wool and I can't be bothered. I have already posted about this today and I was advised things would improve after a couple of months. So far its not happening for me!

I use estriol cream but a higher concentration than yours, .02%, and 1 gram per day, which is more than a pea-sized amount. Also I currently am taking in more estrogen than this because I am still on low-dose systemic estrogen/progesterone--transitioning off it by using the lowest-dose Vivelle patch (delivering 0.25 mg/day of estradiol) with once-a-day progesterone pill (Prometrium). But I don't think it's the extra systemic estrogen that's making a difference, because I used to use a higher-dose Combipatch (0.5 mg) with no estrogen cream and it made no difference in libido at all.

I have done a lot of research on estriol cream and apparently the effects on the body are 20 times stronger when applied topically than when taken as a tablet. This is because it is absorbed straight into the blood stream and doesn't have to be broken down in the liver where most of it is filtered out. I do not understand the view by some that vaginal creams are not systemic. They most certainly are. Maybe that is why I am having a problem getting used to it!
