If you find anything let me know because this is something that is driving me crazy. My problem is on the outside mostly aound the labial area my skin tears really easy so I have these paper like cuts and they itch and burn. I have tried an estrogen vaginal cream but I swear it irritates it more. I have been on BHRT for over a year now. It took care of it for awhile but now it is back. I have read on this sight that calandula cream helps but I have not tried it. I am very close to making an appt. with an ob-gyn. Ok enough of that. Let me know if you find anything and I will do the same.
Take Care

Hi Diane and sethkaylyn

I have had this soreness itching problem from time to time. It was very bad last October. I posted my tale of woe on the 'Dryness, Itching, Vaginal Dryness...' forum under the 'External Vaginal Dryness Relief thread.'

In short I can't take HRT, tried oestrogen cream which didn't agree with me, went to see my GYN and he prescribed a steroid cream which was such a relief as the soreness was pretty bad and the skin had broken. Ouch beyond words sad.gif

I can really sympathise with the itching and burning. sad.gif

I now use it from time to time, in fact I've been using it this week, it soothes the area and takes away the itch.

Hope this helps

Thanks Robin can you tell me the name of the cream? I think Iwill call my Dr. on Monday and mention it to her. Did your GYN say if hormones are the culprit? You said thre cream is soothing but does it help to heal the broken skin?

Hi Diane

The cream is called Trimovate. The tube says it's manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline if that's any help.

Yes my GYN did say that hormones are to blame. He agreed that the oestrogen cream was the right course of action first and that since I wasn't happy with that (it was causing cramping and spotting) this was an alternative. I also remember him saying at the end of the consultaion that if the Trimovate didn;t work to go back to him and I could try something else. So I assume that there are other things out therre to try.

I applied the cream when the skin was broken and at it's worst and it did heal quite quickly.

I was miserable with this until I found a solution so I hope this helps you.

Let us know how you get on.

The estrogen cream should help, but if it's stinging because of fissures and tears, heal those first. I find those (baby) zinc creams are ideal for no end of cuts and scrapes. After the skin has healed, try the estrogen cream again.

Thing is, if we're are so low on estrogen that it's causing dryness, then its also causing thinning (hence the easy tearing of tissue). About the only thing that can stop or perhaps even repair the atrophy is hormones

Estrogen is the first line of defence; testosterone is the second.

Glad to know I am not alone. After years of dealing with fibroids and bleeding I thought that the surgery would heal all....NOT SO!

the itching and burning and general soreness are driving me in sane. I am using Premarin topically and so far so good.

I dealt with the itching and pain for 2 months last summer, and tried a huge amount of creams/lotions.

What finally solved it was switching to all-cotten underwear & using baby laundry detergent in the wash (with no fabric softener). I used vagisil until all the dyes and chemicals were completely out of my clothing. (This took a few weeks and lots of washing.) Both a PA and a doctor suggested using all-cotten, as it "breathes" better.

Feel better soon!!!
