Yes, I have this quite badly right now. Mainly in my left hand (pinky) and down the side of the palm but get the tingling, plus twitching (can be anywhere), plus foot cramps regularly. I do get that crawling sensation as well - ususally lower legs and scalp.

Been there, done that Janet, it's the anxiety. Mine has let up some now but if I get particularly anxious it comes back to haunt me.

Yes, I have it quite frequently. I get this twitching in my thumb area and also a lot in my feet

I also have the tingling hands, sometimes only my last two fingers. I've often wondered if it's just poor circulation. Since it's so common with meno, I guess it's another symptom. smile.gif

Been there done that too....the twitches drive me nuts....could be worse though...I read a post from someone the other day who has butt twitches!

Yes I get tingling hands sometimes in the middle of the night, often upon waking. Often accompanied by joint stiffness in the hands which passes off when I get up and about. It goes in stages - I go months without it, then it starts happening again for a while. It never happened at all until I stopped taking HRT so I suspect it may have something to do with low estrogen.

Also have tingling and numbness in one foot. Sometimes it's restricted to one toe and I hardly notice it. At other times the pins and needles sensation pervades most of the foot up to the ankle. Again, this never happened until I stopped HRT. The physiotherapist I'm seeing for a knee condition thinks it's metatarsalgia.

I attribute this mostly to anxiety issues since I am post abut 8 years and it has just started again for me.....lots of stress in your life will do that!

After reading your responses..........Yes, I have the twitching issue too !!!!
Thanks for sharing....................

I had tingling in the base of my feet for about a month until I started taking magnesium, then it went slowly along with my other peri symptoms including some nerve twiching. I've been feeling really great for the last 3 months or so but this last 2 weeks have been feeling under the weather again, headaches, nausea, feeling really depressed and very tired all the time so I guess my hormones are changing again!!

Hello - my first post so hope this comes out OK! I've been driven mad by tingling/buzzing sensations in my foot. Dr can't find anything wrong and referred me to a neurologist, he can't see anything wrong but is doing an MRI anyway, but says he would be surprised to see anything serious.

Now I've found this site and see that it can be a PM symptom, given I am 46 I wonder why neither doctor thought of this? I am a pretty sanguine individual but seem awfully anxious of late, libido is on the floor, periods all over the place, going bald 'down there' (not serious but rather ugly) ohmy.gif and have aching wrists - think all these symptoms might be pointing to something...

Thanks heavens there is somewhere to share this and educate oneself, as the drs don't seem very switched on.

Dear BearLady,

Welcome to Power Surge!

I had the tingling thing in my feet for quite a while, until other annoying and/or debilitating symptoms took over. The good thing about this peri/meno ride is that the symptoms change--sometimes very frequently--so you are never bored. dry.gif

I hope to see you around often. We all hang onto each other here, so the ride is much less scary than it would be otherwise.

Very best,
Marcy

I'm having it right now, my entire face is tingling, my head, my feet, my ears, my hands, arms, every single part of my body and it's driving me crazy. Just took a xanax, sometimes it works. Anyone else get it all over their entire body???
PixieGirl
I get tingling in all different places - usually not at the same time - like it travels. I've had it on my face, head, arm, thigh, bottom of my feet. Anxiety can make it worse, but I'm pretty sure this is hormonal and would happen even without anxiety.

I get a feeling of electrical shocks in my foot; mostly my right foot. It makes me feel like scratching it however, it does not really itch. Sometimes it makes my foot jerk. I also get twitching in my arm and thumb and sometimes my toe when I relax in the evening. I have heard this is not uncommon, although I have never heard anyone say they had the electrical shock feeling. Has anyone experienced that?

I've had tingling in my face and neck for the past two weeks. sad.gif When I'm anxious, it gets worse, and moves down into my hands and stomach.

My husband, who is a neuro-muscular massage therapist, has been working on the VERY tight muscles in my neck/head. I have a suspicion that its my tight muscles compressing the nerves, causing the tingling. My spouse said, "well, maybe it's MS". I said "well, thanks a LOT for putting THAT out there!" I decided to give it 2 weeks before calling my GP to see if it got better. Calling her today!

Letting go of the fear is such a huge challenge. Fortunately, my GP knows about my history with anxiety, and factors that into my symptoms. It's really amazing what anxiety can produce in the body -- very real symtoms.

Hi, I know exactly how are you feeling. For the past 3 weeks I have been feeling that tingling in my face, in my left side mostly, when to a lady gynecologist thinking she should know better for been a woman, to my surprise she said there was no way I could be perimenopause because I was too young(I am 40) and told me that there was no symptom related to hormones like that. She even suggested a brain stoke, you can imagine how terrified I was but at the same time thinking that she didn't know what she was saying. Well I went to the ER and I had a bunch of test performed, including a CT Scan, EKG, blood test, everything u can named, everything turn out normal and my tingling continued, well I started my search in the internet and I found out that this tingling is called Formication, with m, and the article says that this can happens to perimenopause woman, it is just hormones. I still feel the tingling in my face, feet and hands and now I am starting to feel this strange feeling in my tongue, like a little pressure in both sides of my tongue but in the back of my tongue almost in my troat, weird!!!!but I am sure is just hormones. If u find something that helps with the tingling let me know I will do the same wink.gif in the meantime I will share your feeling of desperation.

Hi casuja,

I had tingling in my feet and started taking magnesium supplements and multivitamins and minerals. Worked for me!

Believe it or not I get tingling on my butt and on the sides of my head. I remember the doctor asking me if I had tingling feelings once and when I told him I had them on my butt he looked at me like I had three heads and stopped asking me questions. I had experienced the tingling about 15 years ago on my head and now I know it's definitely an indication that I'm feeling stressed--it's like my body is sending me the signal to slow down (or stop worrying about things). I've gotten it a lot the past couple of years (in stressful times mostly).
janeann
Yep, tingling here too.....back, neck and shoulders. Started up again today. ~~~sigh~~~ I had been starting to feel better.
Had the facial twitching for about eight long months...THAT is finally gone. It was my eyelid. I told the doctor about it, he gave it a long medical name and said not to worry...What the Heck!

Happy 1, I described the feelings as "electrical shocks" too. You don't know how happy this made me to hear another sufferer say that.

May our tingling and shocks subside.

Add me to the list of tinglers, buzzers, and twitchers. At the moment I have a "itchy" tingle under my left eye. I was told, too, that it could be a sign of MS, but nothing else works for the diagnosis.

When I was good taking my mag/cal/zinc tabs, it helped a lot. I've been under a more than normal amount of stress lately, my grammy died, and I was her main caregiver, and boy I've been tingling body wide. NO FUN. I take ativan for help.

Anxiety does exacerbate it, but I think it's more about estrogen dominance, where our ovaries are just pouring out the estrogen in a last ditch effort to conceive, tho I just had a lap hyst (preserving ovaries and cervix).

It's frustrating, but I can say that there are many times when I am without it over the past two years. Weather the storm, it will end sometime!

Peace and Love,
Brinks

I also have the tingling in my arms and hands. Sometimes I have it so bad they go numb for a minute or so. When it first started about a year ago, I thought it was a stroke, then that thought would bring on an anxiety attack. Everything went downhill from there. Now when it happens, I know it's hormones and I just wait for it to pass, like every other crazy symptom. blink.gif

My face has tingled horribly for about 2 years. It started with just my lip. During those 2 years, I've seen neurologists and rheumatologists in addition to my internist and an ENT. I've had many other neurological symptoms as well as suddenly develpoing allergies. I can walk outside and my ears clog up like I'm on an airplane! Needless to say, no one has diagnosed anything. Unfortunately, I have felt miserable and scared, so the anxiety kicks in and around we go.
Sooooo, off I go to my lifelong gynecologist and throw myself at him. Naturally, he prescribes HRT...Premphase. I knew that he would, because that's what THEY do. At this point I am willing to try anything, even though I know better. It really has become a quality of life issue for me. Don't think I haven't wanted to try the bioidenticals, but around here, it seems nearly impossible, not to mention very expensive. I just had to get relief from where mad.gif ever I could get it.
Well, guess what...the Premphase " cured " me.
I have an appointment with a nutritionalist next week. After my chiropractor talked to him about the face tingling, he said, " sounds like hormones." So, where have the MD's been to recognize and help me instead of MRI's etc? I took the HRTs, knowing full well that I'd keep looking for SOMEONE to help me. I am praying that he is the one to make sense of all of this and get me feeling like a human again. There are times when I feel like I have lost myself.
So anyway....I decided to wean myself off of the HRT. It's been about a week since I started the every other day dosing. Well guess what....I woke up this morning with my face tingling so much that I thought my head would jump off my shoulders. I hadn't experienced this since January.
I am astonished that no medical doctor even suggested that the face tingling could be hormones! Instead they think I have MS, Lupus, RA., allergies, chronic sinus problems, etc. All of which I never had in my life until I turned 50.
My husband thinks I'm crazy because I just keep complaining, paying Dr.s and pushing this issue. He doesn't get that I have to take care of myself and I know I can be helped if I can just get to the right people!
If the menopause doesn't kill us, the anxiety over not being able to get help will!
This is my first post...spell check not downloaded and I have no idea how to get that emoticon out of there! LOL

Well let me know if you find any cure for the face tingling. Mine started with my lip too, I thought I was having a stroke. That was back in November! Now I get it everwhere, my face, the top of my head, arms, legs, feet, fingers, all over, it just travels from place to place or all at once. I too thought I had MS, my maternal grandmother had it. Haven't been to the dr. about it yet because I just don't feel like going through the barage of tests!!
TBS123
Unfortunately, ( or fortunately) Premphase took care of the thing I call " crazy face," as well as the twitching, brain fog, depression, etc.
I am still looking for a better way. I am 53, and still have all my parts..LOL

That's me!
I feel for all of you as i know so good what you are talking about.
I have been through a lot of tests for a number of the above mentioned diseases. I even had a lumbal puncture done!
Meeting someone telling me it could be hormones at the time would have saved 2 precious years of my life.

This is a horrible and worrying symptom! I have had buzzing legs for a while now and been seen by a neurologist and had an MRI - all clear. He has now asked for some blood work to be done, but I have noticed that he has not ticked the hormone boxes, even though I did question the hormone connection with him having read about it here!!

However, from other symptoms I am having (like periods only showing up once in a while, headaches, aching wrists etc) its obvious to me that I am perimenopausal, so if the blood tests come back normal I'm going to give the Magnesium a shot as suggested.

Many thanks for all the updates, its a big relief to know you are not in this alone.

Wishing you all well from a very gloomy England - spring just hasn't started ...
TBS123
haha..the lumbar puncture. That one was offered to me, but I turned it down. I guess it's not funny at all. I have been desperate enough to do it...what if it's Lyme disease? LOL...we fit the description.
Interesting that a nutritionist zeroed in on the hormones when he heard about my face. I am going on the 29th of April and I will let you all know what he says.

I have a tingling in upper back left shoulder. I have had it before. I think it's a pinched nerve and maybe I should go to a chiropractor. I have always had anxiety. In FE, I had an MRI of head because I thought I had a tumor or something. At the time, I was seeing a dr and a surgeon about hyperparathryoid disease and recently put on a blood pressure med plus having lost a brother in Jan. I think all the stress was getting to me. I have also had weird feeling in left hand and foot. To think this could all be hormone related and to know there are other women out there who are having these symptons, too.

Yes, I have felt this all over my body. I have even ended up in the E.R. twice because of this and they thought I had RLS, and gave me medication for that, but it never helped. Doesn't seem that I have RLS. I still have not been diagnosed. sad.gif

I have that tingling feeling too. I get it in my arms, feet, and hands. I hate it and assumed it was because of anxiety but now I am wondering if it is menopause also the cause of my anxiety I think.
