Help.

We have to attend a wedding in mid-summer, evening wedding at a Ritz Carlton hotel in a major U.S. city.

I am absolutely clueless as to what to wear. Now I know I have a few mos., to figure it out, but I figure I better start now, if not yesterday.

I want help from some who might be better equipped as to what's appropriate, than I am.

What I have already bought (but may return if it's not appropriate). I bought a pair of those ....... I think they call them opera pants, or fly away pants. They look like a long skirt, but are actually pants with a panel around em. They are kind of elegant, black. I'm really not a dress kinda gal. I'll wear a dress, but feel more comfortable in slacks. These look like a floor length skirt in black, but they aren't, they're slacks. And a silver, sort of satin material top. The bodice is ruched sort of, v-neck line, short sleeve, and under the bodice a line of dressy black beads sewn around the perimeter under the bodice, and then just the plain silver santiny material down past the waist line, plain.

Btw, if it matters, I'm not a trim-fit sort. I'm a middle aged, plus size.

Opinions? I know this will be a top-shelf, high class affair. The folks involved don't do anything half-way. But by the same token, I don't want to be over dressed either.

Your outfit sounds completely appropriate. Normally an evening wedding would call for a cocktail dress, but pants such as you describe, with a silvery top, will look great. Ritz-Carltons are lovely - have a great time! smile.gif

Doaker, what you describe sounds perfect and very classy. I would also pay attention to a tiny bit of jewellery and think on earings in particular, as these really do frame the face. A pair of moderate size sparkly earings would work [even fake will do], but I would leave anything else off, apart from your wedding rings and perhaps a dress ring on your right hand. Makeup kept to a minimum color wise, but don't be scared of red lipstick and a good lashing of mascara if you can get away with it. Hair up would also look suit this ocassion if your hair is long enough. If not, just a soft blow wave that flatters your face.

Less is always best in a situation like this. What about shoes? Purse? You're almost there. wink.gif

Thanks you guys. I so seldom really go anywhere, and most especially anywhere fancy/schmancy. It's not me. I'm just a blue jeans/flip flop sorta gal. That's what I'm most comfortable in.

Yes, I was even wondering, but don't know, what with the beading that runs around the permiter (under the breast line), solid black decorative beading, ........ though the top has a v-neck cut to it, (shows *some* cleaveage, *some* not really particularly revealing) I'd wondered if it would be too much to wear some dainty decorative little black necklace. But thought, maybe not. Don't know. I normally wear (everyday) a diamond (gold) pendant given to me by dh, eons ago. It's my every-day, no matter what I have on, it's on me. Just a normal gold chain and small diamond pendant. But I know that won't do (gold jewelry, which is what I typically wear) won't go, not with silver for the top and black pants. I do realize that.

So, thoughts on some kinda small something around the neck, something small (I know it wouldn't work to pull off big and bulky), just some little something in black or maybe silver, thoughts on that?

And as for the earrings yes, ....... again ........... I'm a gold person, wear yellow gold. And have double pierced ears and I typically have in whatever that is gold. But that won't do. So I have to find something for the earrings also.

I do have a small satin little clutch black purse that I'll use. And shoes, that I have to check out. I hate shoes. Not a typical woman by any means in the shoe department. It's flip flops for me remember. So I'll have to do some checking in that department. I thought maybe some little slipper sandal type thing w/a kitten heel might be okay, black.

I have medium length hair, so pulling it up won't happen. I'll probably just style it like I normally do, not much else can be done with it, nor would it really suit who I am, to see me in done up hair. The makeup, yes I own makeup but rarely wear it. But will certainly do so for this occasion. LOL

I have found a brand of shoes which are truly the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. They sell everything from flip flops to fancy high heels to sneakers! If you look in their "sale" section you can find some of these shoes for $40, $30 and even $20 a pair. I buy them from their website....as here in Canada they cost $110 per pair from stores!!

They are called Aerosoles and their website is named the same. Check it out!

I personally am like you, I have gold jewelery which I never take off....one diamond and gold ring on each hand, a fine gold necklace with a gold locket. I might consider changing the necklace, I would never take off the rings....even if I was wearing black and silver. I am not convinced that wearing yellow gold with silver clothing would look so bad...I think it would really "set off" the gold jewelery.

Sounds like this will be a really fun event....its a blast to play "dress up" every now and then!!

Doaker, Your outfit sounds lovely!! smile.gif Some black onyx earrings (fake would be fine--no one can tell the difference anyway!) would really set off the outfit, especially if they weren't too dainty. Maybe circles or ovals.

Thanks you guys. It sets off so much anxiety in me, when I have to come up with something other than what is *my comfort zone* in clothing. Yep, I'll just try and find some nice earrings and maybe if I can find the right, suitable, necklace, I'll do that, and leave it at that. The shoes, yes Floater, I have some of those Aerosoles, love their flat type shoes. I have a few pairs for church-wear or office wear. You are so right, they are the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. I'll have to check out their website.

LOL. I think somewhere, in another lifetime, I think it must've been fun to get to play dress up, and not feel like a frumpy housewife, who doesn't fit the bill. I think I remember that, not sure.
