Hello Fellow Meno Ladies,

Prior to two weeks ago my hot flashes were once a week, now they are everyday, 20-30 minutes apart. The weird thing about them is I will get red on one side of my face and neck, real blotchy! It feels like I put some chemical on my head and face that burns is the only way I an describe it! The first time I felt this feeling was a couple of weeks ago when my Husband and I were eating out. This young couple walks in and she smiles with a chuckle and whispers something into her boyfriends ear then he looks at me and laughs I didn't think nothing about it,(thought I had hair out of place or something). We left and I looked in the mirror and to my surprise I was two-toned!!! Has this ever happened to anyone ? What's up with the constant flashing? mad.gif [/font]

Well, I had one ear get hot tonight at my DH baseball game. I let my MIL feel my ear and she said it was hot. It was beat red too.

That was rather rude of that couple! I am so sorry that that happened to you! Peri's need encouragement not discouragement.

I honestly wouldnt put anything past the peri process. Anything that throws anxiety, HBP, and anything else it can congure up, can make half a face have a hot flash

I get blotchy when I drink wine. Were you drinking wine????

Hello Peri 1961,

One ear huh? Really weird feeling isn't it? How long did your ear stay red and hot? Sometimes my hot flashes last 30 mins! Thanks for your empathy smile.gif I can only imagine how funny I must have appeared to that couple laugh.gif I don't drink, or smoke, or ingest caffeine which I heard can bring on hot flashes. I wish I knew why I'm getting mine so frequently rolleyes.gif What would you say was your strangest experience since you have been in Peri?

I think the most troublesome symptom is the anxiety and the jitters. I have to be on an AD to help with that. The AD takes away about 90%.

My ear stayed hot for...Hmmm... Maybe 20 minutes or so? One of my friends who is 50yrs old thought it was so strange. When I come to PS, It is not strange.

Hello Peri1961,
Was that hot flash an abnormally long one? How long do you normally flash for? I have been entertaining taking an AD but I guess I have a problem with being labeled a head case when I know darn well it's biochemical! Once you have been labeled by your MD your done and they stop listening to anything you say. All your symptoms will be blamed on anxiety and Depression. I think that is horrible! Have you had that problem? I know how you feel about the anxiety, I have had such horrible anxiety and tremors! Today was very bad day, very depressed and lingering anxiety with tremors. What I don't understand is I started my period on the 24th and had some anxiety and of course my regular insomnia, but now my anxiety is worse and this is the last day of my period. I thought those symptoms are supposed to subside once you start your period???? I will never figure this out. Its seems as soon as I feel half way normal and start to enjoy it I slip back to periland! I just hate it!!! One more question about hot flashes.... Is it normal for Hot flashes to become more frequent 7-10 days prior to the menstrual cycle? I have had only 2 hot flashes today. I guess it will always be a guessing game!! Just another day in Periland! I apologize for being so grouchy, it has been a rough road today.

Needing Hugs,

Tekisui

Tekisui,
Yes, it is normal for hot flashes to get worse before your period. It's because low estrogen levels trigger hot flashes in most people and pre-menstrually our estrogen and progesterone take a nosedive. I'm on BHRT but I still feel icky the week before my period, but I feel great once is starts.
peri1961
The great state of Montana huh? I want to go visit there sometime.
Let me see if I cn answer easch of your questions. Oh by the way, sorry it took so long to respond!
1. Was the hot flash abnormally long-no. Hot flashes can last up to 30-60. No set timing for them. When they are over they are over and they have mind of their own.
2. Have I had a problem with my GP labling me because of my AD? No. I think my GP is more than willing to give me what I need to feel better. It is very hard for me to talk peri with her though and how miserable I can get. She is younger than I am. I would find another dr if I were you. One that repects you. Hard to do now a days, I know.
3. In my fertile days, the symptoms did end, but not in Peri!!!!!!!! Oh no! The symptoms last before and after and inbetween. Major ropper coaster ride!
4. I am a week away from starting myself and I have laid in bed all this week with insomnia, and feeling hot at 4:00am so yes, 7 to 10 days is no unheard of.

The rules in peri? Well, I dont think there are any rules.

You arnt being grouchy! And I dont mind you asking

I was teaching today and here comes the jitters. Yuck ! I hate them

Thanks Skiergirl,

Humm so the BHRT doesn't stop the PMS? I never had hot flashes before or during my period, let alone that many blink.gif Do you think it's the BHRT that stops Peri symptoms after your cycle??? Sounds like iot's working for you :-)

Hey Peri 1961,

So sorry to hear that you are suffering from Insomnia, that really ***** huh.gif I get mine a week before I start too, I wonder why that is??? Thanks for getting back to me :-) I've been in Montana for 8 months, but I'm from South Texas originally! I see your in the Hill Country! Are you native of Texas? I love the Hill Country (Kerrville) I don't miss the hot summers though :-) If you ever decide to come visit Montana feel free to give me a jingle!

Thanks for clarifying the duration of Hot flashes blink.gif I thought I was weird because I was getting them so often and they were lasting so long rolleyes.gif

I will give some thought to finding a more respectable GP, sometimes it just gets too difficult to deal with the anxiety and depression with natural remedies. I take Melatonin for sleeping, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't !!

How long have you been Peri??? Were you diagnosed by blood work or by symptoms?? What was your worst Peri day? This all new to me, my Gyno told me I was Peri at 34 but didn't really start to have major problems until about 5 months ago and these symptoms came on like gangbusters!!

I think alongside the anxiety, insomnia the inside tremors are definitely the worse! UGH!!!! I hope you get to feeling better and that you sleep soundly tonight!~

Hugs,

Tekisui

peri1961
Absolutly no way! You are from South Texas! What a small world. I am actually SA. The summers are very brutle and a real hot flash problem.
Had trouble sleeping again last night. I find that so frustrating because I am so stickin exhausted so you would think I would just drop into sleep!

Arnt hot flashes wierd? It is so strange how they work! I thought hot flashes would be no big deal before peri. I would just fan myself and move on. What Texas girl is afraid of heat? Noone told me about the anxiety or the jitters or the depression or the aura, or anything alse that accomanies the heat! Kind of ticks me off that noone told me!

Dont be surprised if you have anxiety for a good 20 to 30 minutes even (or what feels like 20-30 minutes) then a flash of heat anywhere on your body for a split second. Then it is over. It could be your ears, your face, your chest, I get a lot right across my stomach. I use to think it was a gush of stomach acid, then one day it dawned on me, it was a hot flash. The pre-hot flash stuff to me is actually worse than the heat finally hitting. Hot flahes take on all sorts of ways. So when you feel it, just breathe deep and tell yourself you are not dyingbut having a hot flash. The worse that will happen to you is the aggrevation of it all. I had a bout of the jitters yesterday. I held on and it eventually passed.

I have been in peri too long! I started at the age of 41 and it hit me like a ton of bricks with profound confusion. Was not prepared at all! I will be 47 in May, so 6 years and still going strong!
Sounds like you are so young in peri and I know that is rough. Maybe you will stop at an earlier age? I hope so.

I have never had my blood drawn for hormones. So my hormones are a mystery. It is said that they are so up and down in peri, that it is hard to know really what is going on. So I am peri by symptom only.

Amazing that you gyn said you were peri at such a young age! Mine wouldnt admit it till just this year. He told me I was too young at 41. You and I both know that I wasnt though. How old are you now?

think alongside the anxiety, insomnia the inside tremors are definitely the worse! UGH!!!! Amen to that!

Have a great day. I will be in and out today. so I will check back!

Happy Friday Peri1961,

I was born in SA and lived in Bigfoot during some of my childhood, and in Corpus Christi, Texas most of my adult life. I love SA , plenty of stuff to do! What I miss the most out here in Montana is the ability to go to a Barnes and Noble, Whole Foods Market at the drop of a hat. I live in Central Montana, 2-21/2 hours away from everything. We just recently moved into this big old house in the country and I feel even more isolated. On the up side there is plenty of nature to enjoy and of course the big Montana sky!

Speaking of weird hot flashes I had one like you described a couple of weeks ago that took me off guard at first. This overwhelming panic came over me and then I got really hot. It took me a moment to realize that the anxiety was a pre curser to the hot flash. I haven't had one like that since. Wouldn't miss it if it never happened again!

It seems like everyday brings on a new symptom everyday. Yesterday I had what I have now found out that I had a ocular migraine. It was scary! I saw this jagged, flashing image in my blind spot with colors and when I would look at the window it looked like water on the window. I couldn't see real well for a time but it went away and left a nasty headache! So of course I come on here and find out what it was! Thanks to the forum it is so informative! There's so much support here! It's nice ladies like you that make this journey tolerable :-)

Have you had your adrenals checked? The inside tremors are from exhausted adrenals. I got mine checked and I was stage 3 exhaustion and have been applying a cream that supports them as well as progesterone, testosterone etc... It has helped a great deal; however the pats few days the tremors have come back just not with the same vengeance! It may be wortha try for you since that seems to be a big symptom for you. It's expensive but is so worth it.

I have read on here that many woman who are undeniably in Menopause and get the blood work done only to be told that the are not menopausal. I guess blood work isn't the best marker for the dramatic dipps in the hormones. I know that there is a salvia test that you take for 28 days and that would tell you the whole picture and if you are Menopausal it will definitely show up! Like you I don't need any tests to tell me that I'm there! blink.gif

My Gyno told me at age 34 that she thought I was Peri because of my already irregular periods. I just turned 40 this month. I went from having a period for 7 days to 5 days to 3 days now I'm at 2 days and most of the time they are light. I never know when they are going to start, my only sign is Insomnia 3-7 days before sometimes I get severe cramping 2 days before. What was your first sign or signs that you where Peri? In the six years that you have been Peri what were the most profound changes? Sorry for all the questions unsure.gif It's interesting to hear the journey wink.gif

Have you tried Melatonin or any other sleep aids for your insomnia? There is a build up process with the Melatonin but it works for me most of the time.

Here's hoping that your cycle begins so that you can finally get some rest!! I bet your feeling like a zombie mellow.gif right now! Hope you get to feeling better soon!

Hugs,

Michelle
peri1961
You know what? A zombie is a great way to describe it! Exactly!

One of my first peri symptoms was the summer I was 41. I was sitting on the couch after swimming and all of the sudden, I felt the interanl jitters. Just plain flat stared shaking. No reason. it was a relaxing day. No stress. I checked my pulse and have become OCD about checking my pulse ever since that day. Especially during the precursors to the hot flash times. Then I got very scary adrenaline rushes. Thought I was dying. ran to the dr. Did an EKG and I was fine. Depression, anxiety, the dreaded doom and gloom thinking. This all wasnt like me. I just turned. Became less confident in myself, etc. Lots of Hypochondria type thinking. Finally a friend told me I was peri. What? Never heard of it and if I was going to be peri, the late 40s would be fine, not early 40s.

I found on the internet a dr here that does BHRT. I might go see her this summer. She does all kinds of test like that. She is a MD that has an aging clinic.

I use Valarian. My friend that told me about peri, also told me about Valarian at the time. I hve yet to try malatonin, but wonder if my levels are low?

What took you to Montana? Did you DH get a new job? An old house in the country sounds so cool!
Gracie2006
When I get a hot flash, my chest turns red. It looks like a sun burn. Then, most often, only my right ear turns red. People have actually asked if my one of my ear piercings was infected!

Humm so the BHRT doesn't stop the PMS? I never had hot flashes before or during my period, let alone that many blink.gif Do you think it's the BHRT that stops Peri symptoms after your cycle??? Sounds like iot's working for you :-)

Tekisui

Hi again,
Yes the BHRT definitely helps me--I'm a mess without it! I cycle my hormones (Prometrium only 10 days per month) so that's probably why I get the PMS symptoms. Even if I decide to skip the Prometrium for a month I get the PMS and the period. No hot flashes, but if I get really stressed or have exercised really hard I sometimes get anxiety, headaches, and insomnia , which are my main symptoms of low estrogen. I'm feeling lots better but I still have my moments. I think if I had a stress-free life I'd be fine, but that would be pretty boring! Good luck and I hope you are feeling better soon.
