Full Version: Is this Hot Flashes or Anxiety, or What?

I'm not sure what this is, so I don't know which forum to put it.

Sometimes I wake up in the wee hours of the morning extremely thirsty, hot, and foggy-headed. Coincidentally, these are the same nights that I have the heebie jeebies and feel like I should be checking under the bed and in the closet for things that might go bump in the night. I wake up hot and thirsty but scared to get out of bed to do anything about it (although my extreme thirst and fogginess are worrisome enough to make me think something is physically "off" and shouldn't be left til morning, so I force myself out of bed to drink something).

Would this be dehydration? Hot flashes? And how/why is it related to the heebie jeebies?

Hot flashes and anxiety are best friends and they hang together all the time so IMO, yes. If you are at peri age, then chances are you are experiencing your hormones gradually going down.

I thought I would wake up close to 50 yrs old and my period would stop and I would just fan myself a bit. Noone told me the hell would hit early in my 40s. Noone told me the physical and emotional changes that go on. Shame on them!

Teasdale,
I remember a couple summers ago when I first knew I was going through peri. I was afraid to be alone in the house. I
had many nights when I couldn't sleep or I'd wake up very early, like you, and I'd be afraid of any noise I'd hear, whatever, and I wouldn't dare to get out of bed. I'd be hot, then cold, then hot again. I always had a glass of water by my bed because I was always thirsty when I'd wake up.

They're all peri symptoms, and sometimes they come in combinations. Thankfully, they usually come and go, so you get some relief. I hope that's the case for you and you start to have better, more restful nights.

I wish you all the best,
Deb

i love the word heebie jeebies even though i hate how it feels. it really does sound like hormonal heebie jeebies. sorry you're having them, but i hope they pass through relatively quickly for you.

best,
ellen

I'm definitely going through peri - I've had lots of other symptoms, and I'm nearing 50. But this was just weird, both of these working together. I guess I just need to keep a drink near my bed since I never know which nights it'll hit.

I do that, too. Especially when I'm alone in the house at night. Thirsty, hot, sweaty and freaked out by whatever noise I just heard. I think it's a part of the hormonal unrest.

It's been a while since I've had those feelings of what goes bump in the night, but there were those nights before this web site (Bless Dearest heart) that I seriously wondered if I was losing it or soon would. I learn to identify those heebie jeebies for what they were -- adrenal rushes -- freaky, but harmless.
