I have been suffering from anxiety from menopause for about 2 years now. Never had prior. Recently I read that a vitamin C deficiency could cause nervousness and anxiety. I started taking vitamin C supplements and do feel better. I haven't however had any luck with vitamin B, seems to make me more nervous. Just thought I would share cause it can't hurt to try and god knows we try.

ACTUALLY,TOO MUCH VITAMIN C HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE DETRIMENTAL IF TOO MUCH IS TAKEN{WHAT ELSE IS NEW?CAN WE BELIEVE EVERYTHING WE READ.MY MOM THOUGHT VITAMIN C WAS THE CUREALL).BUT I JUST THIS WEEK READ WHAT A DEFICIENCY IN MAGNESIUM CAN DO---SO I WOULD TRY THAT FIRST.

I suffered anxiety in peri and amongst other things was prescribed 500 mg vitamin C Ester-C Plus daily and 750 mg magnesium (with calcium) daily, also progesterone cream. The anxiety has gone but I always thought it was the progesterone cream that had been effective for anxiety. Maybe it was the vitamin C and magnesium!

Interesting. What have you heard about C? I've heard that you might get some sort of digestive upset (diarrhea) if you take tons of C, (1000's of mgs a day), but it goes away once you lower the dosage. Other than that, I've never heard anything about bad effects from vitamin C.

My experience with magnesium is that it is good, but don't over do it. I take it sometimes for an energy boost, but sparingly. I used to take it more, but it seems to cause some sort of nerve inflamation with me, causes tingling and aching in my legs -- or maybe it doesn't cause it, just exacerbates it -- but it definitely gets worse if I take a lot of magnesium.

I've never reacted well to large doses of B vitamins. I tried taking one of the B's for more energy once and it had the exact opposite effect -- made me so tired I could barely make it through the day. And too much B6 seems to cause my heart to skip. So, I tend to take only what is in a multi - vitamin for the B's, nothing more. I need the B's, but not in megadoses.

Anyway, I may add C to my regimen. It's good for a lot of things (like bruising easily), so what could it hurt?

How much is too much?? When I was fighting off the flu I was taking 3000mgs per day, and I wasn't sick for long.

If you Google 'vitamin C safe upper limit' you'll come across sites that can tell you. Since I'm taking a combination of vitamins and minerals, I looked at the safe upper limits of all of them to see that I wasn't exceeding it by taking different supplements that contained the same vitamin. I came upon a document that gives the safe upper limit of all the vitamins and minerals according to various bodies both in the States and Europe. Sometimes the safe upper limit varies slightly according to which body is giving the advice. The safe upper limit for most things though is way above the recommended daily allowance.

I take a buffered vitamin C a few times a week, 500mg. Way WAY back when just 100 or 200 mg of Vit C would help with anxiousness. I'm sure the 500 is helpful, but I don't quite feel the same affect. I too had trouble taking extra B as it made me feel worse, though aside from my multivitamin and tea that have a small amount of B, I do eat some foods that are higher in B vitamins. My multivitamin does have a small amount of magnesium. I've had alot of luck with my biofeedback and breathing exercies.
