Hi Girls,

I was a member some time back when I first started my peri symptoms with night sweats and panic attacks. Over the past 6 months my symptoms have escalated (except the panic) to the point where I am physically and mentally worn out. I went to see a new gyno yesterday and begged him to do something to help me out. He is going to start me on a 6 shot series of Lupron to chemically "kill" my ovaries (his words). Has anyone had any experience with this medication? I am concerned that my panic may return. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated ladies.

Thanks

Tania

Tania,
Night sweats and panic attacks are a sign of low estrogen--I don't know why your doctor would want to "chemically kill" your ovaries, when your symptoms indicate they are already not producing enough hormones to make you feel good. Have you had your hormone levels checked? Unless you have some really strange condition of extremely high estrogen levels that trigger hot flashes (and in that case maybe you should see an endocrinologist) I would definitely not consider lupron. Have you tried any type of hormone therapy? If I were you I'd seek another opinion. Not easy I know! I don't have experience with Lupron but I know it is sometimes given to people who have extreme PMS (PMDD). Is that what you've been diagnosed with? Have you tried any other treatments?

I wondered too, of all the things you could be taking, he would want to give you that?? They tried to put my daughter on it when she was having really bad periods from endometriosis but when we looked up all the side effects (up to and including death!), she opted to have surgery instead.

I think it's really overkill. There's got to be something better you can take. What about bios?

Hi girls and thanks so much for the replies......I have been looking into this lupron and not liking what I am seeing about it. I had a hysterectomy 12 years ago, ovaries remaining obviously. This is the first gyno I have seen since that time and this was his first suggestion.....but after reading up on the effects of this drug I am seriously thinking about letting this just come naturally. They say my estrogen is high........estrogen dominance? I believe that is what they called it. I think I may ask next for an endocronologist (sp?). I was a little concerned that a doctor who had seen me for 5 minutes, has no history short of a blood pressure would suggest something so radical.........that was the first flag that went up with me. I will investigate this further I believe............thanks!!
