I have a vertical incision and the left side is completely normal but the right side is all bulged out and painful. My doctor said it is just swelling, it is like someone put a grapefruit under my skin on the right side and causes a lot of pressure pain. Surgery was 5-1-02.Total abdominal hysterectomy.

Update 5-21-02 The doctor said it is fluid and blood drainage from surgery and it will take at least another 2 months to go away.

Darla,  Sorry to hear you are so uncomfortable.  I saw your other post about waking up with wet sheets.  Hopefully others have better answers for you, but couldn't let you go without some response.  I'd suggest you call your dr and get a better answer.  The incision sounds like something that should be checked more thoroughly.  24 yrs ago after my first c-section, dr had to drain fluid from 1 side of my incision about 7 days after surgery.  The drainage process was easy and the pain relief was immediate.  I hope the dr can relieve your pain.        ~Helen
