Full Version: I don't think the chiropractor helped much......

Hello Girls,

I have been going to the chiropractor once a week since mid-January for sciatica. The pain has been less at times, but not always. Sometimes it's still so bad.....The chiro said he sees good results as far as the adjustments go. Things look much better, but I still have lots of pain much of the time. I'm at the limit of what the insurance will cover, as far as chiro visits, until I go back to my doctor and see what she thinks we should do now. She might want me to have more adjustments to see if it will get better. Or, maybe she'll think they should try deep tissue massage? Actually, that sounds pretty good to me...... wink.gif Of course, there's always acupuncture. Who knows?

Well, I told you all I'd let you know how it went, so that's what's happening. I haven't called my doctor yet because, even though I really like her and she understands peri, I STILL HATE TO GO. Health anxiety, you know. sad.gif

Anyway, I hope you're all doing well!

Have a lovely evening,
Deb

dmar, I'm sorry you're in pain. I have been going to chiropractors since the '80s, and I can tell you there are chiropractors, and then there are chiropractors. I've finally found a terrific one who has really helped me a great deal. He practices orthospinology and uses massage to move your spine and doesn't crack. He also uses the Cox table. It has really saved me as I have to sit all day at a computer for my job. Good luck. I hope you have a good one and it works out for you.

Thanks, Meryl!

I don't know if my chiro is a really good one, but he's the only one in the network, so I really have no choice. He seems to know what he's doing. He has a table that has sections that fall down when he pushes on certain areas so that the pressure on the spine isn't too great. Is that what a Cox table is? BTW: I'm really glad for you that you have such good results with your chiro visits.

Take care,
Deb

Yes, I think that's the Cox table. Good. Teehee-- I went yesterday, and now I'm in pain! I'm sure it will get better as the days goes on. It always does. I hope he can hellp you.

Hi! I just wanted to throw my two sense in here! Like someone said, there are good chiropractors and there are bad. I have been going to a FANTASTIC one for a couple years now. She uses the Cox table (we call it the Thompson technique here in Canada) and I would never go back to a regular Chiro. I have sciatica as well, and she is the only one that can help me. Having said that, the pain never goes away completely, but it makes it tolerable. You have to be consistent on your visits. If it starts to hurt, go in right away, and pay attention to when they want you to come back. My visits now are down to once per month. And its a must that you walk!! Don't worry about any other exercise, but walking! And ice the areas that hurt right after your treatments. I went to another type of chiro for awhile, and he almost killed me with his cracking, "old" way technique. Hope this helps.

Lisa,

I just saw your post and wanted to respond.

I haven't been to the chiropractor for about sic weeks now. I have times when the pain is really bad and other times when it's barely noticeable. I actually have some days when I don't have any pain at all.

Having said that, I still want complete relief, it that's at all possible. This is my problem. I have to wait for the doctors to get together and decide what is the best treatment for my case. I haven't called to find out what and if they've decided because I've actually been doing better lately. I will probably call when I start to have bad days again. Sounds really dumb, I know, but that's me!

Anyway, that's where it is for me right now.
I'm glad you found a really good chiro that you can rely on. I don't have a choice of the one I use unless I want to pay for it myself.

Well, I wish you all the best!

Take care,
Deb

I have been going to the chiro since the late 80's and found a really good one. At the time, our insurance paid for it but since then, our insurance has changed to a yucky HMO and now doesn't cover much at all. So, I pay out of pocket for my chiropractor. I only go every three months now so that helps with the budget.

I do know that after I go, I feel sore for a few days. It is your body getting readjusted. I also agree walking is so important. I just talked to my chiropractor about doing my yoga and he thought it was a great idea since the stretching would be so good. I have never felt the same since I was in those car accidents (both times someone rear ended us and smashed up the car-go figure) but I feel better than before I started going to the chiro.

Wow, Mopsy, rear-ended two times? What are the chances of that? I feel so badly for you......I'm so glad the chiro helps you with the pain, though. I hope you continue to feel better, too!

I've been much better lately, so I can't complain. I'll save that for later, ha!

Take care of yourself and have a great weekend coming up!
