Hi ladies...
I don't know if this belongs somewhere else, but here it is....I don't know if this is a hotflash or my anxiety as you all now by now i have or if it is both.
I started a little while ago to feel very tired and nausious which progressed to a out of it feeling to dizziness and heaviness in my body to a sudden rush of heat and sweat(not visible, b ut I can feel it), my arms burn, like there is icy hot on them, with this rush of heat my heart began to pound a bit. I am now a bit shaky and nervous. It is not like Im haven't felt this before just curious if it is a hotflash or a panic attack, do you have both at once . I guess I am trying to address whatever it is. I have an appt with my DR. Mon. so wish me luck girls as you know I am agoraphobic so getting there will be a challenge. If a hot flash is this typical or a bit lengthy in it's progression? I thought I had them figured out since my nose turns beet red, but sometimes I am suprised...this all tok about 20 min.
I am also ovulating for the past few days....this has become very symptomatic.

I might add that my vision went a little haywire too...as I write this I am still feeling the waves of heat...literally it feels like waves. I will go outside in the snow and see if it helps. also do your ears plug with a flash...maybe I am imaging that one. thanks

It sounds an awful lot like anxiety to me, especially the waves of heat, the burning, the dizziness.

Alot of these symptoms are indicative of a migraine component. Sorry, I know I use that "migraine" word alot, but I do think that several of our problems stem from migraine which is caused by our chaotic hormone fluctuations. A definition of migraine to help explain WHY it happens:
QUOTE
No one fully understands the exact cause(s) of migraine headaches. Many experts think that a migraine begins with abnormal brainstem (a part of the brain) activity that leads to spasm (rapid contraction) of blood vessels in the cerebrum (main part of the brain) and dura (the covering of the brain). The first wave of spasm decreases blood supply, which causes the aura that some people experience. After the first spasm, the same arteries become abnormally relaxed, which increases blood flow and gives rise to migraine headache pain.
You don't have to have a headache to be in "migraine mode". It can cause all kinds of weird sensations because it is effecting the brain. The hot and cold flashes, the burning sensations, tingling, ear fullness, dizziness, anxiety, etc. In fact, the anxiety factor of migranuers is through the roof - it is something like 85% of people who experience migraine have anxiety issues. Some symptoms of migraine are below, but remember that migraines don't always result in head pain. For some, it can just be the weird sensations that often make it difficult to diagnose!
- Moderate to severe pain, which may be confined to one side of the head or may affect both sides
- Head pain with a pulsating or throbbing quality
- Pain that worsens with physical activity
- Pain that interferes with your regular activities
- Nausea with or without vomiting
- Sensitivity to light and sound
- See sparkling flashes of light
- Perceive dazzling zigzag lines in your field of vision
- Experience slowly spreading blind spots in your vision
- Feel tingling, pins and needles sensations in one arm or leg
- Experience weakness or language and speech problems
- Feelings of elation or intense energy
- Cravings for sweets
- Thirst
- Drowsiness
- Irritability or depression

missy you certainly don't use the word migraine too much, and thankyou for reminding me since i wanted to bring this up at the DR's appt. Funny thing is my husband was here and I put my sunglasses on while inside the house and said my eyes are bugging me, I seemed to have to squint because they were sensitive and distorted. I forgot about migraines becuase I relate head pain and I have been geting lot of headaches inb the past few mo. I just don't notice hwta happens before them. This feeling is almost exactly what I experienced a couple of day ago...within. a half hr. I was better. I tried to relax through that one thinking it was just anxiety and actually put on a cd, but by the time I wa done I was sweating and felt very much in la,la land which triggered my call to the Dr. I haven't been there in a year so I am due for an exam. I love trying to cram all I have to say in 15 min.
It does sound like anxiety too, however when I usually have an attack it is fast a furious there is no mistaking it....this was the same a couple of days ago as well as in the past and it was as slow progression of events which is unlike most of my panics...they are usually just plain fear

I also took notice this time of my ears...they seemed to get stuffy through this process, like IO shoved cotton in them, now that it passed a bit they don't feel that way anymore, anxiety has never done that to me.
Anyway thanks for the feedback...Mikki

Sun,
I have these same feelings. I am going through menopause. I feel like my legs have icy hot on them.
It is a strange feeling and it can last a long time. My vision is blurry and crappy(never wore glasses b4) And I feel like a walking zombie. My ears feel strange. I've had heart palps. the list goes on.
The best thing that works for me is to just get busy. I try not to let these wierd feelings spoil my life.(but I admit it's hard sometimes)
It's amazing what the brain can do. When I feel so bad some times I put on James Brown "I Feel Good"
and turn it way up and dance to it just to piss my body off.
Good luck and I hope this helped.

this is the first time i've found anyone else that has the heat/burning in the arms. i have had the anxiety and depression and am on AD now. it has helped the burning some. i still feel it but milder. the dr says it sounds like it goes with the anxiety but it comes at certain times of the month.

Sunflower, my vote is for hot flash. They can feel like a panic attack. The last time I had one, I felt anxious, had the rapid heartbeat and heat, and my vision got bright for a few seconds, like an aura, before the heat hit.

I also have both panic attacks and hot flashes. For me, they are very different. The hot flash is a feeling of heat in my face and chest, and at night I have alternating attacks of cold and hot flashes. Its awful - one minute I throw the covers off and take off my top, and the next I'm FREEZING. I also have migraines. Everyone is different, but I think you sound more like you're having hot flashes to me. Since you are very familiar with panic attacks, I would think you could identify one pretty readily. I sometimes (although not lately) get a tingling in my arms that goes all the way down to my fingertips as I'm going to sleep. I've never had that before in my life, and I did read online that it can be a menopause symptom. I take Inderal for my Mitral Valve Prolapse, but before I took it, I'd get palpitations on a regular basis, so I think it helps with my menopausal palps too. I've had the ear fullness symptom in the past, and the specialist I was sent to said it could be an anxiety symptom. That really surprised me. It felt almost as if I were under water. It went away after a few months.
Unfortunately, menopause seems to make anxiety symptoms worse. Just what we panic sufferers need, huh? I feel an inner quivering that has been described here a lot, and I also get tired so easily, compared to only a few years ago. Its to the point to where my husband and I can only plan to do one thing per day, or I get seriously pooped out. After doing errands for two hours, I'm ready to come home and flop down on the bed. I have to admit I thought I'd breeze right through menopause, but that is far from the truth.

I didnt read all the responce. I just want to let you know that I have had the burning arms before. Skin on fire feeling. Not every month though. Not a consistent symptom. It is a misrable feeling. I think I had it with my period, at night, in the summer.

I have been getting a burning sensation on my thighs. Someone described it perfectly. It feels like I have icy hot on my thighs, but they are actually cold to the touch. I have been noticing that my vision has been getting worse. Yesterday I was walking to my car and noticed I was very short of breath. Started driving home and started feeling very tired. The dizziness and lightheadedness started(like I could have passed out) and then my face felt like it was on fire. It felt like I prickly heat. Of course I was getting nervous, especially the part of feeling like I could pass out. I got home fast and needed to lie down. I have been having low blood pressure issues so I immediatley checked my pressure, it was normal. At this point I felt the intense anxiety. I am usually very regular with my preiods. I went 41 days 2 months ago and then off course I started late last night and this one was 34 days between. Like I said I usually would go 25 days between. I am so confused. I wish someone could tell me if theses are panic/anxiety attacks or if they are peri symptoms bringing on the anxiety. I have had hormone levels checked. The first time my FSH was high and I was told yes it's peri. 3 weeks later they were repated and were normal. I was told by another doctor that they have never heard of these types of symptoms in peri. I think I am more scared than anything. I have had every test and every blood work you can imagine and nothing is coming up. I am having a blood test on Monday to check my adrenal glands. But my endocrinologist feels that that is a very far fetched diagnosis. I just feel so out of control.
