Hi Ladies~
Does anyone experience heart palpitations when bending over or standing straight up after bending over? I've noticed this a couple of times. I will bend over to get something, and after I stand up I immediately feel my heart fluttering. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, do you know what causes this?
Just when I think th at palps can no longer scare me, THEY DO!

Hi Karen, now that you mention this I do feel this way when bending over doing my laundry and I didn't really think about it before, but I am with you on this one! The palps always scare me too, even though I always seem to live thru them!

Don't let them scare you!
I get them playing tennis and I can get them sitting here at the computer.
Plain stupid hormones...
I usually cough slowly a few times to the rhythm of a normal heartbeat and then it goes away. If not I ignore it! Put some music on and dance...
Sometimes I get hiccups with it! Now that's truly funny!!
Just another joy on our meno-journey....
Take care and don't worry, that'll probably make them come!
Hugs, Jonie

Hi 2Sons and Jonie~
Thanks for your reassurance. I can be having a wonderful day, then out of the blue the palps hit, and my lovely day turns into one of fear, hesitation and hypochondria!
As opposed to any other symptom of peri/meno, the palps are the only ones that are scarey. The hotflashes, nausea, aches and pains, insomnia, headaches, etc. etc. I don't find those to be scarey. The palps are just a weird sensation.
Jonie, when you get them playing tennis, what do you do? Just sit down and let them pass or do you just ignore them all together?
Hugs,
Karen
P.S. 2Sons, you have a beautiful family and I'm so happy your husband is doing so much better

Karen -
when playing tennis I do the cough routine and then ignore them.
I'm lucky, they usually go away with that.
A glass of cold water also helps.
Just don't let fear come into it - this will not hurt your heart, nor kill you.
I take you've had a health check and your hearts fine?
Don't let it rule your life and spoil your day - it's not worth the attention!!
That's my attitude...

I used to have this happen occassionally when I would bend over really quickly then stand back up. Not sure why this happens but my doc at the time said this was nothing to worry about.

I used to have this happen too, when working out, but ONLY when doing bent over barbell rows. It scared the crap out of me! Any other exercise in any other position was fine. It made me afraid to do the rows any more. But I have not worked out for a loooong time now,

so I don't know if it would still be a problem or not.

Thank you ladies for sharing your thoughts and experiences. It's incredibly helpful to be assured, that I'm not alone in feeling these weird sensations.
Also, it really helps to come back and read these posts whenever something happens. I suppose in time, things become less scarey (right!?). I guess something must happen in the heart area when we bend down, though what it is, I don't know.
Thanks again,
Karen

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is so crazy!!!!
I get palps whenever I bend down quickly...I knew it was the strangest thing and was not EVEN aboput to bring it up here...b/c it is such a strange thing!!!
What do you folks think it is that triggers a heart palp by merely bending down????
If I am exercising I never get them...but I notice if I run up the stairs in my home to do something really quick I get one, too.
I have a question for you that I am hoping will bring my assurance. Do any of you geel generally not too good when you have a day of frequent palps? Now, I am not talking about nausea, dizziness, etc...I just mean kind of a "blah" feeling?
Also, what is the difference between flutters and esophogeal spasms? HOw do you know the difference? If I relax and take a deep breath, the flutters go away...you know that feeling like you want to cough?

I haven't been here in quite awhile. I also get them when I bend forward. Lately, I have been having them often again. I wonder sometimes if it doesn't have something to do with my acid reflux. With Valentine's day having just ended, I have been eating chocolate like crazy and have had horrible heartburn. My Protonix isn't even helping. But what is one to do when one really loves chocolate? LOL

^^^ I am getting my stomach checked out, on so many drugs for Rheumatoid Arthritis that I burp up everything and sour stomach all the time. I have the majority (as far as I can feel anyways) at night or anytime during the day that I am laying down. Through the center of my back, if it is on a pillow and it feels uncomfortable I feel a skip, lay on my side too long, skip.
What drives me nuts the most, when I get them my face either feels tight or numb hard to explain.
Tired of being tired and worried.

WOW ladies, I'm obviously not alone on this one. I don't know why this happens when we bend over or stand up too quickly, however; thank goodness we're not alone! It's frustrating and such a nuisance, why this too !?!
Perhaps if we focus on it, and move much more slowly when going in and out of these positions, I don't know.........
I just know it's a strange feeling, though it does my heart and head good to know that I'm just not imagining this!
Thank you for your comments, it really helps in calming my fears when it happens.
Hugs,
Karen
