Just wondering if anyone else has one of the 3 strains of influenza going around? If so, has your fever lasted longer than a week? And what about other symptoms? Our 20 yr old son is going on day 8 of having a fever. The docs say it has to run its course. I'm getting impatient and concerned, although he seems to be feeling better. It's just the darn fever that's hanging on.I'm a worrier, unfortunately, and just looking for anyone who might be going through the same thing. Thanks Ladies....

Ajay,

I didn't have it but my three kids did. They had fevers as high as almost 104. They were home from school for an entire week. It started on a Sunday and they were still feverish the next weekend, but getting much better. Two of them still have the nasty cough and congestion. I know it hangs on for a long time but does eventually get better.

God bless,
Deb

Thanks, Deb. I heard this flu season is supposed to be a nasty one. My son has never been this sick, and he's still not feeling at all well. I hope your kids are doing much better and that you stay healthy!

Thanks, Ajay,

They're out and about now, not quite up to par, but they're fine! Your son will be back to himself soon. Hopefully, all the kids have built up some immunity to the nasty little virus and won't get so sick next time! Take care!

Hi to all, My 26 year old dear daughter (who works with children) got sick really rapidly. She was sent home from work. She went to the clinic the next day and the clinician did a swab test....yep, positive for Influenza A. She was treated with Tamiflu. Missed several days of work and still has a cough.
It has been seven days and she is feeling better, no fever, just the cough. The clinician told her that she would cough for 'awhile' until she recovers.

I also work in a pharmacy (as a clerk) and I have got to tell you that 'something' is going around. Customers have been coming in with coughing, sneezing, fevers, sinus stuff and on and on. I keep the hand sanitizer and the disinfecting spray at the ready.

In mid January, I came down with a virus. Ended up in the ER for fluids after fainting at home. Scared my husband! Kept me at home, in bed, for five days. My throat was so sore, I could only eat popsicles......and I don't even like popsicles. Anyways, I took pain killers, drank as much fluids as I could and rested, rested, rested. It was awful.

I will keep hoping your kids feel better.

I am glad that you're feeling better, but I'll bet that was pretty scary for your hubby. My son was tested for Influenza through his nose and both came back negative. Still, the doc treated him for influenza. Gave him Tamiflu which made him even worse. Like I said, the fever is on day 8 and he has never felt more miserable. No cough, though. I always get too concerned abut the fever. I guess I'm not supposed to let it bother me so much, but when it reached 105 ohmy.gif !!! while in the doctor's office I tend to get a little nervous. I guess there are some pretty nasty viruses going around that mimic influenza. Could be what he has. I hope your daughter feels better soon. Take care.

Ajay,

I'm on day 7 of the flu myself. I had to take all last week off work and i'm barely getting better now. It's a bad one !!!! I'm still coughing alot and feel extremely fatigued/exhausted. If you son's fever continues maybe it would be a good idea to take him to the doc's again. Is he congested ? I have been and it's been bad. I didnt' have much of a high fever, but the " feel like I've been hit by a truck" really was true for me. The weakness was very scary.
I hope your son gets better soon, but if your worried about the fever take him in.

Hugs,

Moozie

Thanks, Moozie. I plan on taking him back tomorrow if he's not better. It's frustrating when the doc says to "ride it out" when the doc isn't here at home watching him suffer every night. Grrr.
I hope you feel better soon. Take care that you don't overdo too quickly. You wouldn't want to have a relapse of any kind.
God bless....Ajay

Dear Ajay, Something to consider. If your dear son has been sick for so many days and the fever is not lifting, could a secondary bacterial infection have set in. So now he has a virus AND a bacterial infection?

Yes, take him back if he is still sick. That's too many days to (as you say) "ride it out".

Even though these are healthy young adults, they can be knocked to the ground with this sickness stuff. Doesn't matter if they are little children or young adults, you're still the mama and you still worry.

Keep us posted. I would be interested to hear the outcome of his fever. Poor fellow.

MOOZIE......Take care. We don't seem to 'bounce back' as quickly as we used to. Thinking of you and hoping for improved health.

Hi Ajay,
Hope your son is feeling better. I am on day 5 of this flu bug. No fever for me just terrible cold symptoms and coughing. I have been taking OTC cold medications and they do not work. I haven't had a good nights' sleep for the past 3 days. The cough suppressant I am taking isn't working on this bug. Today the coughing has lessened and I hope I am on my way to recovery. If my symptoms last longer than two weeks I am headed off to the doctor. I had a flu shot back in October and was hoping I wouldn't get sick this year but here I sit coughing and spewing phlegm.
