ok ladies, this is far out! I have NEVER had this. Today, my husband and I had very very dark stools, almost blackish with a slight greenish tint (I know, this is gross, sorry), and mine was very soft, his was more like diahrea, sort of. But, it scared me!
We had eaten creamed spinach today, at Boston Market, and i think that was it, but you knnow how the panic starts!
Now, he's had this a few times over the last few months, which i didn't know, he jsut told me that. So, now, more panic!
But, then again, he takes a lot of herbs, and we've both been taking Pepto Bismol latley, me for the IBS, and him, for an upset stomach, and Pepto Bismol can turn your stools black. Now, I've never had this before though, and we've eaten there many times, and had that creamed spinach. This is the first time i've ever had this. He's never really had this before either, except, like i said, over the last two mos. or so, on and off. But then he told me he's been eating lots of salad with green leafy vegtables or whatever. WE don't take any drugs, I just take xanax. We don't have any abdominal pain, ever, well, except for me with this darn IBS thing, but even when i've had bad bouts of IBS, the stool still is regular color. So, I don't know. I asked ths woman who lives down the road from us, she is a nurse and i've mentioned her here before, she said its the spinach, but she also mentioned PERI! yep! something about the hormonal changes, which causes digestive things to change and react differently....what I had been upset about was that I had had this spinach before, and it never happ.d before, she said, well, during peri, haven't i already gotten symptoms that I HAD NEVER HAD BEFORE, and of course..yes i have. (what she meant was, that there's always a first time you start up with a new symtptom that you never had before).

ok, i had to vent.....if anyone here has had this, let me know...I just need a little reassurance here.

thanks ladies...........sincerely, mydarling

I forgot to add.....back in Oct. just 3 mos. ago, my husband had a good check up at the VA here, and blood work, and all was fine, he didn't have any x-rays or whatever, but they basically did a small physical, with blood. nothing was wrong. I imagine if something was wrong, it would be in the bloodwork. Also, with me, I am scheduled to see my GYN for my yearly pelvic and PAP on monday, but the last time was Feb. of last year, and all was well, including the bloodwork.

mydarling....

DO NOT WORRY, I REPEAT DO NOT WORRY...OKAY ONE MORE TIME.... DO NOT WORRY, it is the spinach and the pepto combo.......no big deal.....REALLY...every time my kids eat spinach the SAME thing happens and they are big strapping boys......

Mydarling! I agree with Crazy! Nothing to worry about. My mom and her hubby went to Mexico a couple of years ago, and they were taking pepto bismol everyday for about 3 or 4 days, and one morning they woke up and both of them had black tongues!! They were surprised, of course, but realized it was a side effect from the pepto!

If you and hubby aren't having a lot of pain, I wouldn't be the least bit concerned.

my darling, if you read the bottle, I think it's right there. It's quite normal.
Ivy lena
My Darling, its totally the spinach and pepto, please dont worry.

Just looked this up on the Pepto-bismol web site:

When using this product a temporary, but harmless, darkening of the stool and/or tongue may occur.
