Andrea,

I took St. John's Wort for a long time. Still had extreme anxiety while taking it. I have since quit the St. J's and I now take L-Theanine, which has definitely helped to controll my anxiety. I can now go grocery shopping without feeling like I can't breathe and wanting to run as fast as I can away from the store.

PM me if you would like to know where I found it at.

Mamma, I also use L-Theanine to help with anxiety, and like Tidal Waves, can now go to stores with minimum discomfort. I take it daily, I love the calming effect!

Andrea,

It hasn't doen anything for me. I have also tried l-theanine, 5-htp. Kava and Valerian root without much success but then its always taken a sledgehammer to knock me out.

Nancy! Its that interesting how some people are super sensitive to supplements/meds and others like you don't respond without a "sledgehammer", and then there are others who are just sort of normal. It is too bad there isn't a "one size fits all" treatment for this hormonal nightmare!!

I can hear Peter Gabriel singing now .... (sledgehammer reference).

As for St. John's wort ... I took it for probably a half year or more when my system was struggling with epstein barr -- if I recall it has anti-viral properties. Didn't do squat for anxiety ... but back then I was too pooped to panic. wink.gif

I tried the L-Theanine as well ... didn't notice much effect. I'm trying some PharmaGABA right now ... and it's always hard to tell if I am just having a naturally good week or the GABA is helping a bit.

Thanks for all of your feedback. I just wish I was the type that could take anything without side effects mad.gif

Seems a lot of us are ultra sensitive to anything in our system natural or otherwise. I try and pick things that I can easily control the dose ... like drops or caplets that can be cut. My Doctor knows when he prescribes anything that we need to titrate the dose WAY down for my system. Even with Tylenol or Advil I can only take one pill.

Foods are the same way ... lots of sensitivities.

And then ... what may be fine one day can have a different effect another.

What I need is adopt that old warrier saying "It's a Good Day to Die! Then I'd be able to try ANYTHING once!

Good luck on your healing journey.
