Hi,
I'm new here and glad I found this site. I'm 44 and was fine till May of 07. I started having pins and needle sensations with burning in my hands and feet. Didn't think much about it till I got a bladder infection that wouldn't go away. Then in Oct I woke up feeling weak and shaky all over. Then the tingly sensations got worse. I went to the neurologist and had 2 MRI's done-brain and spinal. Both came back clear. Had a ton of blood work done. Found out I have hashimoto thyroditis, low iron, low Vit D. Thyroid is stable, taking supplements for the other and getting vit B12 shots. But I'm still left with the constant shaking, especially when I want to exercise-I feel like a freak shaking to death. And the tingly sensations are driving me crazy. I'm on lexapro for the anxiety which was so severe I cried all the time and wanted to die. I have plenty of enegy and sleep fine due to the lexapro, but am freaking out about the weird symptoms wondering if it is MS-oh parkinsons ruled out, too. I have irregular periods that are heavy. They used to be every 28 days and now come every 21 to 28. I also notice my arms fall asleep easily. What is happening here? Does it sound like peri? I need help!!!!

Marclan, I just wanted to welcome you to PS

. Sound like you done all the right things by seeking sound medical intervention. I have had internal shakes & tingling sensation in my hands & feet, but I don't think it is similar to your experience. I hope someone will reply soon with better knowledge. Welcome again!!!

You know what....these things just take time....I also have, had, thryoid problems and that with peri really knocks us for a loop doesn't it! well, here are some ideas if you like....
1. I wonder if your thryoid levels are STILL ok? Seems like with the hormones up and down in peri, may be a good idea to check thyroid again just in case. TSH of 0.8-2.5 and anything over this might mean you need a bit more thryoid meds...also, (you may already know all this stuff) there are different types and brands of thryoid meds...some women do better on some than others....takes a bit of trial and error and that is no fun, but worth it in the end.
2. Keep an eye on the iron and blood levels....you can over do on that and that may cause some kinds of symptoms as well
3. Our bodies are going through so much, sometimes we need to give them a break...it is ok to cut back on the exercise a bit....just think how hard your body is ALREADY working to heal from thryoid depletion and in addition to that, the ups and downs of hormones in peri....wow, that's a lot...don't worry, our bodies won't break down that quickly if we don't do hard exercise all the time....my thinking anyway.....bodies are actually pretty tough!

Hi:
Welcome to PS, the ladies here are fabulous. I'm sorry you having such a hard time. I went thru the tingling in my hands and feet and this awful weakness and tired feeling in my lower legs for about 2 months. I also like you have Hashi thyriod I was diagnosed with it back in 2001 and it took a good year to get the blood levels to the point that I felt more normal than not. But in Oct 07 I began with the tingling and weakness and the limbs falling asleep. I went to the thyriod site I always do and ask about it and they all said the same thing. Get my Ferritan level checked. Sure enough I did and it was very low. Ferratin is the iron that stays in body (iron the body stores) and when levels get low, we don't feel so good and it effects muscles and nerves. You may want to call your endocrinologist and have the ferratin and tsh levels checked. There are over 150 symptoms with thyriod disease and as if thats not enough, if the TSH level is off it will also make you feel menopausal and the thyriod hormones have a big effect on the ovarian hormones.
If you like you can go to the website
http://forums.about.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?n...btag=ab-thyroid, just copy and paste in your address bar and your there. On the right side of the webpage is all kinds of info, read and learn as much as you, as this disease is very complicated.
I hope you feel better. Oh I almost forgot, geez loosing my mind again. To repair the ferratin levels all I do is take prenatel vitamins with lots of iron and in about 2 weeks the storing of iron was up again and I felt so much better.
Hugs, Patty

hi ladies,
welcome to PS, you have found a great place! If I didn't have this site, I'd be totally lost and panicky! OK, the shaking, pins and needles, I've had it too. In fact, that's how peri kicked in, for me. That was fun! Literally, one night, about a year ago, my right leg started tingling/pins and needles BADLY! OUT OF NOWHERE. then, hot and cold feelings up and down my leg...that lasted two full days. Then, it moved to my left leg, same symptoms. this really scared me! then, i started noticing the veins on my legs were really showing, like varicose veins. My legs started aching like all heck! Sometimes just one leg, sometimes both. This was introduction to peri! Yeah, I know how scared you feel, because all of this comes at us so quickly, unexpectedly, and most of us have never really had these kind of symptoms in life before, so naturally, fear becomes the topic of the day! But, rest assured, you're not alone. The thyroid advice is good advice, bec. it really effects your body.
Since that "episode" last Jan. with my legs, it hasn't happened again, but believe me, that same symptom then decided to move around my body to diff. places. GEEZ! The idea about us not working our bodies to hard, i have to agree with too...it makes sense, bec. right now, our bodies are ALREADY doing double time to deal with all the changes. I myself, am going to take that advice! LOL!
don't feel alone, if you do, come here and vent......there's always someone around to help and reassure you!
Sincerely, MyDarling

Hi again,
Thanks for all the replys. Unfortunately my tingling has been going on for 8 months, along with the shaking. I just got up crying today cause I'm so sick of it. Mostly cause I can't get it out of my mind that it isn't MS. I always thought menopause was just hot flashes and irritability. It does make me feel better to know other people have weird symptoms, too. It seems I'm not going to feel normal for a long time. WAHHHH!! Thanks again everyone!! Sue

Sue,
Believe it or not you are a bit old to be diagnosed with MS. It does happen later in life, but it's rarer than you think. Most symptoms begin in 20s and 30s.
Having a brain and spine MRI rules out MS or neuro problems.
I speak from experience here. I've had what you have for TWO years! Don't panic, I'm definitely better because I've come to realize that this is my life right now and by golly, I'm going to enjoy it with tingling or not.
Some days it's worse, but for the most part I feel it, acknowledge it, and then go about my business. I too am taking anti anxety meds every a.m. and I think that helps me accept it.
I get EXTREME shakes when I use large muscles in my arms, yet I can run and did run a half marathon without the shakes. But, if I prune the bushes with my hand pruner, my left arm will be shaking and it can really freak me out. But, I've discovered this is normal for me, most likely due to estrogen dominance.
For the most part I am at peace about it.
Talk to your doc about supplements, particularly mag, cal, zinc tabs. They really do help me, but with your meds and other conditions I would speak to my doc before starting any supplements. Very important.
I hope this helps and bring you hope. Peri is a weird time, but many women have gone before us to good health. We shall too.
Interestingly, my periods went off whack at the same time I started having the tingling escalating to 10-14 day periods with clots, flooding, and then coming back in 14 days. I was literally bleeding 20 or more days a month. My doc wanted to do an ablation, and we found out I had invasive fibroids, and I am now recovering from a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy (retained healthy cervix and ovaries.) I feel HEALED even as I recover just 12 days post op because I was bleeding going into surgery and have not had a drop of blood since. Of course this won't affect my other peri symptoms as I will continue to cycle as before, but I am so blessed to never bleed again!
Peace and Love, Sue, stay here and keep talking to the ladies, we'll help!

Hi
I have been having this pins and needles sensation in my right ear and it is driving me nuts. Have you or anyone out there experienced this? I do not really have this in my hands and feet although my feet sometimes at night feel like a burning sensation. Menopause can have such a variety of different symptons it is actually enough to drive you nuts.
I hope you feel better soon.
Diane
