Full Version: PMS from hell!

Ugh, hi ladies, I am in the throes of wretched PMS. This just seems to get worse and worse as I progress through peri. Yesterday there was a program on Animal Planet about these puppies that needed to be rescued and I couldn't stop crying! Later I had "rage" towards my husband and now I am just feeling terrible -- bloated, painful breasts, emotional -- all the fun stuff. I have started taking Omega-3 fish oil, any other suggestions on helpful supplements? Anyone else seem to be getting worse PMS?
Thanks!

YES!! My PMS has definitely gotten worse over the years and seems to last longer, too. Sometimes it seems like I only have a few good days out of each month. Like you, I have had to stop watching any kind of nature shows....too sad!!! They always make me cry! And sometimes I find myself crying over stupid things or for no reason at all. I find I am less tolerant of everyone and everything, and really just need time and space to myself as much as possible. My husband has learned when to just back off and leave me alone...helps to keep peace in the house hold! I don't know about any supplements, but I find that exercising gets rid of some of the tension and helps me to physically feel better. Other than that, I nap when I need to and just try not to have too many things to do when I feel this way. I am hoping that this too, shall pass! Hang in there! Gardenbear

some PMS helpers are exercise, B vitamins are important to take during PMS, start before the PMS is full blown. Avoid caffeine if possible (there goes the chocolate out the window!!), drink lots of water. Try some L-Theanine if you are feeling agitated or angry, it can be very calming.

One thing about being 10 months with no periods, I don't miss the PMS!! Sadly a whole raft of new symptoms sailed in...but the no PMS is a small blessing! always look for the positives, no matter how small!! biggrin.gif

Hi EmmeBee,

I can totally relate to your angst! one minute i can be laughing, the next i'm in tears.
Then i will totally lose it and start screaming at the top of my lungs and everything thats said to me i take the wrong way.

Fortunately i have an understand husband and he knows to leave me well alone at these times.

Hopefully they'll be a time in the NEAR future when we will be free from this.

I'm coming back as a bloke LOL biggrin.gif

Hi I’m new to posting, but just wanted to say that I agree with the advice given by floater. I take a high-dose vitamin b complex and drink plenty of green tea which is rich in L-theanine - a natural relaxant. Drinking it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach can have a really calming effect before you get the chance to get too worked up. I thought at first that I was feeling the placebo effect - but now I really do think the green tea taking the edge off of my PMS. Hope you find some relief with your symptoms soon and take care smile.gif

Dear Viktoria,

Welcome to Power Surge.

I too have been drinking green tea and have found it to be very calming.

So glad you joined this wonderful community of women. Please come around often. smile.gif

Thanks, ladies! The green tea sounds great, I will give it a try. I am lucky too, in that my husband is very understanding. The funny thing is, he gets grumpy too but he doesn't know why, until I remind him "Honey, we have PMS." When women live together their cycles get in sync with one another, so why shouldn't our hormones have an effect on our husbands too?

Anyway, thanks so much for your support and words of advice. I will try your ideas and see how it goes! smile.gif

Hi Marcy
Thank you for your reply. Although I have only just started posting, I have often read the PS message boards and derived great comfort from them.

I am 41 and my symptoms first ‘hit’ when I was 39. My stress levels at the time were pretty high, being a working mum with 2 young children. During the summer of ’05 my parents kindly offered to take the children away for a holiday to give me a break and allow me to continue with work. What should have been a relaxing time turned into a nightmare when I released that I had totally lost the ability to switch off. I became totally stressed out and went into a tail spin, having what I now know to be my first panick attacks, which I mistook for some kind of brain seizure. I honestly thought I was going to die, and took myself off to A&E where I was given many tests, all of which came back clear (of course). I continued to feel spacey and really not myself and thought I was losing control. During this time my weight dropped dramatically and I also suffered from insomnia, anxiety and feelings of total despair. Eventually I ended up googling my many weird symptoms and ended up on the Power-surge website. My jaw literally dropped when I began reading the numerous posts and I wondered how I had never heard of any of these symptoms before.

Over the following months I began to feel less terrified by my symptoms, and now, two years later feel almost in control again. I am definitely not my old self - probably never will be - and do have my moments, but knowing I’m not alone really does help.

Having benefitted so much from reading all the amazing posts on PS, I thought it was time I added mine. If it helps even one woman out there feel just a little better about themselves then that must be a good thing.

Many thanks to all of you
