Just curious if this is another little thrilling side effect of menopause. I have been in PERIMENOPAUSE for 7 years, I am now almost 53 and patiently waiting for this hell to end. Unlike the my friends who have mood swings & complain every frickin 5 minutes about their hot flashes, I have
Mood swings
Hear palpitations
Dental pain
and my most favorite Vaginal Atrophy
lucky me....no HOT FLAHES
all of this normally occurs BEFORE I have a period.............yes I still have them off & on. I am on HRT thank GOD, that and Vitamin E suppotorries are the ONLY thing that has helped the VAGINAL pain.
Anyway I have noticed off and on that I get occasinal RECTUM PAIN. Its like a dull throb that occurs every 20 minutes or so and last one or 2 days. Normally this occurs hours AFTER I have had a GOOD BM or right before a period.
I am VEGAN, so I eat TONS of fiber, at least 45 grams a day and I do not drink ANY thing but water, so I have at least 15 glasses a day. I normally have a BM every 2 days and it is HUGE(sorry to be so graphic)
I am a writer, so I sit on my butt, in an office chair(with a foam cushion) at least 8 hours a day...sometimes longer. I sit alot!!!!!
I have read tons of stuff on causes of rectum pain and they say that 99% of the time its not serious. I did have hemmoroids many years ago, but with all the fiber and water, I think they are subsided. However I do think sometimes I have IBS, even though the BM's are good, sometimes I get cramping for hours afterwards. Anyone else have rectum pain, and think it might be associated with Menopause.

and yes I have had all the colon tests. they are ok! ohmy.gif

Hi buffy!
I saw a programme on TV a few days ago about fibre in our diets. A doctor was saying that he was seeing patients with bowel problems because of too much fibre. He said that 30gr a day is usually recommended, but that for some people even that might be too much.
Sorry I can't be of any help really, but I thought I'd let you know.
Hope it gets sorted out, I'm sure you must get pretty uncomfortable.
Good luck, Jonie

Hi. I am having a similar problem, I think. See my post under Joint Aches/Pains - topic = very low back pain. I don't have the slightest idea how to give you a link to that spot. But I, too eat a lot of fiber, I think and drink tons of water. I am not a vegetarian, but have been following a lower carb lifestyle off and on for the past 5 years. I try to eat several servings of fruits and vegetables a day and do get protein. I did start a new BCP to help with my peri symptoms. It has iron in it and after 3 weeks on it, I am starting to have constipation problems. NOT fun. I know the iron is good for me. If you come up with any great ideas for this one, please post them so I can try them too. Thanks. CJ
