I finally had my blood levels checked. I thought my doctor would check all the estrogens but she didn't. All that was there was FSH, LH, Progesterone, Testosterone and TSH. THe office called and said doc say everything normal. I go and get a copy and I check the FSH and all the others and from what I read in Dr. Vliets book my FSH and LH are way past normal in the postmenopausal range. My progesterone was also below normal levels. So why does she say I'm normal? I'm normal b/c I have one ovary; I'm 47 and this is normal right now? I want to take more blood to get a better picture and to see if I an get some BHRT.
Anyway I have almost all the symptoms but lately I'm like chilled to the bone all the time. What is that? Anyone get that?
The aches and pains are always there too. I'm still taking oona1 (vitex/cohosh) and I think it's helping my moods a bit so far, but the aches are still there. Now I'm thinking maybe fibro? Maybe low thyroid, but the TSH was normal. All these ailments all have like the same symptoms: tired, achy, dry skin, thinning hair, irregular cycles, fatigue, etc. it just gets so frustrating.
I think I have to go to and endocrinologist. I'm calling the gyno and asking for a endo referral. I have had enough!

I have had nothing but hot flashes for 2 years but this winter I am freezing too! Sitting here in thermal underwear & a heavy robe, socks & house slippers plus a blanket and I'm still cold!
Told I have fibro!

I'm wearing the same thing under my blanket. Do you get chills with fibro? I have to look that up now too.

. These aches didn't start until I lost an ovary. I had some bad days, now I seem to have all bad days. I figured it had to be the hormones since I never felt like this in my thirties, or early forties. Then ovary out, and bam, all the symptoms started slowly creeping in.
Going to search the fibro universe now. Stay warm.

I am also always cold. I wear layers of clothes with a sweat jacket and am still freezing. It's terrible when you can't get warm!

Yes, you could be hypothyroid...just checking TSH is not enough and the normal range that your lab uses for TSH may be out of date. These days they recommend a TSH as over 2.5 as appropriate for treatment. Also for a good thryoid check you need FT4, FT3 and the antibodies for Hashimotos (hypothyroid disease)....very common this stage in our lives and common umong women...and can run in families (aunts cousins, grandmother?)....though as an aside, once my thryoid stabalized I still got the chills....this is probably peri! Hi - I've only posted once before and that was many months ago. I too was diagnosed with Hashimoto's about 3 months ago and started on 88 mg Synthyroid. I also take Prozac for depression, mood swings and anxiety. Even before the Synthyroid though, I had been having nausea and chills every day, also fatigue. I've missed so much work I'm really concerned about losing my job. Does anyone have any recommendations for the nausea and chills? I carry dramamine around for the nausea, which seems to help but makes me somewhat sedated, and take Xanax when needed (I can't tell if the nausea is anxiety related or not).
Thanks so much everyone. SO glad to have power-surge to turn to.

Dancer, take it from another thyroid sufferer, this organ is tricky! If you have been on the 88 synthroid for more than 6 weeks, then your blood levels have stablized and it is time for anther blood test. it is possible if you still have symptoms that you are still a bit undertreated and need to up your synthroid a bit. Test FT4, FT3 and TSH. FT4 needs to be in about the mid range of your labs values....and many women feel best with FT3 at the higher end of the lab ranges.
For TSH look for a number value towards the lower end....many feel best at around 1 (0.8-2.5 as many labs use for normal range for TSH)...... and anything over 2.5 TSH may be too high for you and requiring (as I said ) additional synthroid. Some labs are still using outdated ranges of TSH going up to 5! This is often way too high for most women and most women feel awful with anthing up that high....
just a few thoughts...hope you will be warm soon! (sorry, not sure about the nausea but I have also gotten that with ear troubles and peri! : ) )Joan
