Whilst researching the Mayo Clinic Grapefruit diet I started to look at the juuices interactions with other drugs.

I knew my stepmum could not drink grapefruit juice as it stops her warfarin working properly so wanted to see what other drugs it stops and came across an article from our Daily Telegraph here in the UK.

It states that grapefruit can help boost oestrogen - so that would be good for us with falling levels.

On the down side if you have an oestrogen receptive tumour ( eg one of the types of breast cancer ) it is not wise to drink it.

Has anyone else any info on this or thoughts on the juice?

I read not to drink Grapefruit juice with one of my medications. Here is a site that has some studies linked on it to various medications. I don't know that they are selling anything so think it is okay to post if not I am sure it will be removed. http://www.powernetdesign.com/grapefruit/

If you don't take any medicines it would interact with does anyone think it could help with ostrogen like the article I read said? I have never heard on this before, especially on here and I am sure if it helped someone here at PS would know?

Hi!
Thats sounds very interesting..I can only say that during christmas I drank tons of grapefruit jucie( felt it gave me a flat belly?!!? I experienced the worst burning of the face symptoms which are from what I understand a hot flash. They actually are what led me to this wonderful site. They have gotten a little less since I stopped it. Might of just been a coincidince. I think I read somewhere that when you increase your estrogen some o the symptoms might get worse at first..?It was right before my period...I think I will take it up again cause I love it, mine was mixed with orange juice.

Yes, I heard of grapefruit and estrogen as well....but I heard that they are not sure about the juice but the actually grapeftuit itself does boost it. They study I found was about (I believe) grapefruit and birth control pills or HRT and yest the tumor/breast cancer thing (don't quote me on this as my brain is fried aas usual...but internet search will reveal all tongue.gif .

I tried eating extra grapefruit in my own experiment...not sure...thought I felt better for a while...may have just been placebo effect....if you are not on any medication that may react to it, heck, and estrogen is low....seems to me like a bit is at lest healthy anyway...vitamins and all....interesting!
