Hi there,

Last year my hair was really dry and flyaway and full of static on hot days. I wash my hair every second day. My hair has recently become lank and greasy by the second day, this was never the case before.

Anyone else??
layla17
I haven't had any problems similar to that. Is your hair still dry and flyaway on the first day or is it become more moisturized?

Dear Freuda,

When I was without a period for 18 months, the texture of my hair changed completely. First, big globs of hair came out every time I shampooed. When that stopped, my hait went from being thick and straight to thick and wavy. And to think I used to pay a fortune for permanent waves!

I started on hormones in October because I was really quite ill. In addition to helping the major peri symptoms, the HRT has caused my hair to go back to normal--thick and pretty straight.

I asked my GYN about the changes. She said that yes, hormone fluctuation can definitely affect hair texture.

Isn't this fun? Hang in. One of the things I have learned is that what I worry about today may be irrrelevant tomorrow. smile.gif

Best,
Marcy

i have to wash my hair every day, or it's lank, greasy and just plain awful! texture has changed too, it's thicker than it used to be, but i blame all the white hairs for that! biggrin.gif
ChattyCathy
Yes! My hair has changed a lot! And those curly, curly little grey hairs that just refuse to cooperate! I did notice that I can't use the same shampoo for very long. It stops doing its cleaning thing. So I have two different kinds and switch off every other time. This seems to work pretty well.

Frueda,

I have extremely curly hair which has always been very dry, and now I colour it regularly because it went white!! My hair started turning grey at 22 and I had to colour it since I was 28. I have never washed it daily, as it dries it out so badly and damages it. I usually wash it every second day, but have to wet it down everyday to bring some order to the curliness....you should see it after I have slept on it!! biggrin.gif

I notice in the past few months that when I take the blow dryer to it (I only dry the front a little) that it smells like scalp the second day! It is gross, why is THAT happening?? I imagine if my hair was straight it would appear lank and greasy, but it looks fine. However, who likes to think they have a stinky head?? mad.gif Guess I am going to have to start washing it everyday and hope it doesn't turn to straw!!

shoudn't be straw-like with a good conditioner.... i wash and condition every day, twice sometimes on gym days, and my hair is ok... at least i think it is! smile.gif

Hi,

I can try to give some recommendations! I am a hair stylist and own a Salon, so hair is my business. There are So many different products out there to try. My own hair, which has changed in the past few years from thick, fine and somewhat oily, to dry and brittle mad.gif ( I do color and bleach my hair)

If your hair is super dry, frizzy and brittle, there is a wonderful product line by Schwarzkopf, called "Repair Rescue". They have shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner and a "sealed ends" product that all work like magic to make the hair soft. I use this myself, along with that, just before blow drying my hair, I add some silicone based shine products, this makes my hair feel and look healthy.

If your hair has fly aways or static, this is a sign of lack of moisture, so add better conditioning to your hair, that will fix it. As the seasons change, so should our products. What works best in winter isn't always what works in summer.

Also finishing products help. After blow drying, use a light water based pomade, just to control those fly aways and add texture to the look of your style. Mist your hair with a spray shine product, it will attract light, and your hair will shine!!!!

If your hair is fine, add a light blow dry cream or gel, it will give you extra body, make your hair appear thicker.

Always trim your hair every 6-8 weeks, this keeps hair looking healthy.

Always try to use good products, the heavy detergent content of store products really strip your hair and make it dull and ruins color. These are my fixes, I hope this helps someone.

Take care, Juliann

Dear Juliann,

How generous of you to give such detailed advice! I really appreciate yor suggestions!

I have had real good luck with Aussie 3 minute Miracle and Aussie Moist Shampoo. They are a bit spendy(but not too bad) but worth it.

Also from time to I use Redken hair cleansing cream. I got that from my hairdresser. Also for flyaways I add a dab of Aussie Calm that Frizz.
I just realized I sound like I am promoting Aussie products...these are what work for me!

Julianna,

Where can I get the Rescue Hair products, are they just available from salons/

Thanks,

Emma
Juliann
Your welcome to all!!

Emma,

I do believe that Schwarzkopf products are found only in Salons, you may have to call a few and see who carries it in your area, The Repair Rescue is a great product for dry hair, I can't say enough about it. Another one that is rather good and easy to find....is by Abba, it's an older product, but the conditioner called "Moisture Sensation" is a good one, smells like mint. These products are very moisture rich, so only use them if your hair is dry, frizzy or brittle.

Redken also has wonderful shine products, one called "Glass" and another spray shine called Glam.

Hope that helps.

I like the Matrix hair products, there are about 10 products alone for coloured hair, from shampoo to conditioner to leave-in treatments to hair masques and shine sprays. I use their Color Smart system to care for my hair, which is colored, thick, curly, brittle, fly-away, frizzy and dry on the ends and greasy near my scalp. OK, I dare someone to top that!!

Anyway, these products made my hair look less like nerve-endings, and more like hair.
You can get the shampoo and conditioner in some larger retail stores, but everything else is salon only.

Juliann,

Thanks for your response. I've decided about a year ago to stop coloring my hair and just let the grays come in, I would say I am only 25% gray but I definitely see a change in the texture, shine, etc. from my hair. It is shoulder length right now with long layers and is actually more manageable this length than shorter...I am so bad about blow dryign and styling, I'll one of those gals that just want to
wash it and let it air dry.

Anyway, my 14 year old daughter has dry hair and she colors it too often that it looks damaged. Of course I can't tell her anything; she doesn't even what to trim periodically to get rid of the split ends.

Hello ladies,

just another question for anyone who might relate to me with regard to the greasies on the second day after shampooing, I use relatively few chemicals on my hair, I wash with conditioned baby shampoo and use only a little hair spray. I do not use any colours or rinses as i do not need to as yet.

I was just wondering if anyone out there can suggest any good shampoo's etc which have NOT been tested on animals. I favour these sort of products for obvious reasons. Thanks for your help.

I cannot post links here, but if you go to a website called leapingbunny.org, you can download a list of cosmetic companies that are approved by The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC)

Freuda,

I think Clinque does not do any animal testing and I think they have hair care products, also if you have access to a Health Food store like Down to Earth or Whole Foods, they may have products there also.

Hi all! I've noticed that some shampoos make your hair very dry, brittle and flyaways abound!!! I just recently tried a new organic shampoo (and conditioner), and although smelled lovely -- wow, did I have out of control hair. Back to the old standby, and alas, control is regained. Although Suave is a little hard on your hair, it works pretty good for the inbetween days. I'm gonna look for the Schwartzkopf (sp? sorry) products!! Thank you Juliann! smile.gif

I use Fekkai PM repair strengthener twice a week. I put it on my dry hair before bedtime and shampoo it out the next morning. Don't worry about getting it all over your pillow case. It totally absorbs into your hair shaft in mere minutes. Amazing product.

My naturally red hair is highlited with blonde every 6 weeks. I have no damage. The fekkai puts the protein back in.

Hi Everyone;

I have lots of hair, however it is very fine. I believe you should treat your hair the same way as your skin. I have a regime for my skin & receive lots of compliments about my skin. So, in saying that I do the same with my hair, as I colour my hair regularly (salon) and use professional products. I've found the cheap ones just weigh down my hair & all it does it build up stuff on my hair.

Ojon.............is an excellent product!! I do a treatment regularly or you can sleep with it on. They also have other awesome products. It is totally remarkable. It is a Canadian company, but I believe they are now travelling with their products.

Products are so light and you can do anything.......... it also puts protein back into the hair shaft (makes you look like you have more) biggrin.gif. For me, I'll be colouring my hair..........too young to be grey & isn't the "age 50" the new 30's!! rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Regarding Ojon....just thought I would add that it is a product containing nut ingredients. So if you have a tree nut allergy....avoid this brand.
loganbil
To clarify & correct you........................ it is a unique, highly concentrated hair rejunvenator and scalp made with 100% pure Ojon oil - the samr rare oil used for over 500 years by the Tawaka Indians of Central American also known as "people with beautiful hair".

They use the bark........not the nut. I'm sure alot of products have some nuts in it. Anyway, we aren't eating this product..... I was just commenting on what I was using, and feel that comment about "nuts in it" is not an issue.

Loganbil
coastergirl
Logan...there is a disclaimer on all Ojon products regarding nut allergen. Anyone allergic to tree nuts is advised to not consume or apply any product containing tree nuts...including tree nut oils. Individuals that are allergic to tree nuts can have a severe reaction from contact, not just consuming them.

Ojon is not a cheap product. I though I would pass along the allergen warning as a heads up to those individuals.
loganbil
Cg................this has been an excellent product. I've always purchased it at a reasonable price - the shopping channel has great deals. So, it isn't expensive.

The product you use......where do you purchase it?

Loganbil
coastergirl
I get fekkai at sephora. They also have a web store if there isn't one where you live, logan. I have a girlfriend that uses the treatment product by Ojon. The one in the big brown tub. She loves it, just like you.

Juliann,
Thank you soooo much for the info. I went out and bought the Repair Rescus. Oh my gosh, my hair is so much better in just a week. I have very curly, dry hair (New Mexico s*cks the moisture out of everything including hair, lips, skin, etc.!!) The shampoo is really different; doesn't "suds up" at all; the conditioner great and I found a hair creme specifically for curly hair. My color seems clearer and I've actually had some good hair days. You are so sweet to have shared the info. I highly recommend the stuff. Thanks again.

Another thing I love is my dryer. After switching to a T3 tourmaline dryer.....I have cut my drying time by more than half, and it's so much healthier on my hair than a conventional blow dryer.
Juliann
Hi Adair,

I'm so glad that you like the product!!! For your curly hair, they have many new products that are called "curl activators". Almost every product line carries some kind of product for curly hair. In the old days, we used a good gel and some shine polish, mixed them together and put it on the towel dried hair, so when the hair dryed, it controled the frizzies and kept the hair shiney. Either way it works!!!

Good luck with your curly locks, keep them well conditioned.

My hair is falling out so bad after shampooing. The DR. took me off bcp more than 3 months ago ( my hair looked really good when I was on them) Still getting regular periods at 51, though I had some spotting for the first time ever 2 weeks after that. Don't know if the loss is from age or stopping the pill.
FoxyRoxy
Hi All.....Thought I would chime in here as I am also a Hairstylist and hair has been my business for more than 24 yrs........

I also like the Matrix products and so does my mother.............and my hair is : Long, curly, flyaway, thin but porous so it appears thick and fluffy, dry and brittle on the midlengths and ends but oily on the scalp, changes from wavy to curly from each pregnancy I have had....now its curly......it has fallen out over the past 2 years on and off but I have found this is down to a Folic acid deficiency so as long as I take my folic acid tablets everyday my hair has stopped falling out......Did I top you Armadillo laugh.gif ????

I just recently tried a new organic shampoo (and conditioner), and although smelled lovely -- wow, did I have out of control hair. Back to the old standby, and alas, control is regained.

I have also in the past, when I became paranoid about all the hormone altering chemicals in shampoos and conditioners, tried many organic and natural products but they just made my hair even worse which took a long time to get back to normal once I started back on my regular shampoo and conditioners.....Now I just think, Oh well they are only on the hair for a short time so chemical exposure should be at a minimum compared to lotions left on the skin.

But the funniest thing is that I actually use a store bought shampoo and conditioner now as I have found it the best for my hair at present..........Sheesh I feel bad saying that laugh.gif

Rox cool.gif

P.S. I also love the Schwarzkopf Repair range and have used this in the past too.....
