Hi, I've written in another topic that I am weaning off Klonopin. My doctor had me going off way too fast, so a friend who is a psychiatric nurse practioner has mapped out a slow schedule for me. My main problem is the constant nausea that I have. It seems these meds affect me with this side effect after a short time of use. It was the same with Ativan at a low dose for 7 months previous to the Klonopin. I have been on the Klonopin since November at a low dose also. I'm wondering if any of you could help with some natural ideas for nausea relief? The doctor will only allow me to use Tums and Mylanta and they don't really help with the issue. So I'm turning to you for some ideas. Anything that won't interact with the med. I'm afraid of losing anymore weight and now the nausea is lasting into the evening, whereas before the evening was my "good" time. I guess its due to the lessening of the med. Tomorrow will be my first morning without any dose. Just an evening .25. Anyway if you can dig into your bag of ideas, I would be most grateful. Try to think back to the days of morning sickness! LOL! Anything help you then?
Appreciating you all as always,
Tiona

Tiona, I am sorry you are feeling worse and not better!! When I had morning sickness, if I had an empty stomach I was nauseas, if I kept food in it I was ok. And eating is hard when you are nauseas I know! Ginger, ginger ale, peppermint tea...well basically what Lady E suggested!
Tiona
Thanks Floater and Lady E, I drank ginger ale with my dinner and it helped a bit. I appreciate the suggestions. Maybe I'll try the peppermint tea before bed. I can stand pain better than I can stand the nausea; plus it seems to trigger my anxiety too.

Hi Tiona,
Im not sure if you have found something yet to help you with your nausea yet or not but this may help.

When my Sister was pregnant she got a wristband to help with her nausea. Im not sure where you live but Im sure maybe a Pharmacy will be able to help you.

Ginger is ment to be good too. I hope this has helped you.
Good luck and I hope your feeling better soon.

From Deb.

To all who may be having a problem with nausea. I FINALLY have found relief by taking probiotics. Its amazing and I feel almost totally normal now while tapering off the Klonopin. I'm now 30% less on the Klonopin, so almost a third finished with this horrible stuff. Taking compounded med and tapering at just 5% per week. Takes a long time, but is so much easier on the system. Thank you to all who sent me suggestions.

Tiona, I am SO happy to hear you finally found something that helped!! And isn't that interesting that probiotics were the answer? I would never have guessed that one! I am happy for you, and will keep that in mind for future reference....probiotics and nausea....who knew!!

Tiona...So glad you started the Probiotics. I am a firm believer in them. A year ago I had nausea so bad I could barely function. A lady in my workout class suggested a Probiotic and it worked like a charm. I have continued taking it.

Doin' the happy dance for you!!

Probiotics have been a tremendous help to me too. Last summer I had nausea that was so bad, I didn't know how much longer I could stand it. Started the probiotics, along with fiber capsules taken REGULARLY and things, at least with my stomach, are so much better. I have recommended probiotics to a friend with really bad IBS and she has also gotten very good results.

Floater, CG and Chocolate, thanks for responding. The probiotics are a miracle as far as I'm concerned. Wish I'd known about them sooner! I swear I can deal with pain better than I can with nausea. Like Chocolate, I didn't know how much longer I could go on feeling that way. I would recommend them to anyone with a "tummy" problem of any sort.

Tiona, can you tell me more about the probiotics? What do you take, what's the potency, etc. I have problems with digestion and a hiatal hernia so I don't think probiotics would hurt.

Any info would be appreciated. I'm glad you're feeling better!

Absolutely! I'd much rather have pain, given the choice, than nausea! I use AccuFlora, which I used to buy at Costco, then Sam's. Both quit selling it here in Denver so I buy it online from Costco. I'm sure there are other brands out there that are fine, but I feel so much better with the AccuFlora that I won't risk trying anything else.

Hi Helen, I'm using Natren Healthy Start System. It comes in three small separate bottles, each contains a probiotic that works in a different part of the digestive system. You take all three in the morning before a meal. I got mine through Vitacost online. The price wasn't bad; I think about $30 for a 30 day supply. Best investment I've made lately, that's for sure. I hope they work well for you if you decide to try them.

I take something called Protonix,it's not over the counter, but if you ask your doctor.it is one of the best things you can get for acid reflux------so it helps all sorts of problems before they become problems.I also use aromaotherapy----citrus is the best.I use lemon and lemon oil when i feel "ugg"---just smelling it makes a difference.also mixed with almond oil you can put a bit on your wrist---great.
