Out of desperation to stop the flushing which I have had for three years since my last period, I stuck a 40mg oestradiol patch on beginning at the start of November. After a couple of weeks the daytime flushing did stop. The sweating which wakes me at about 5am lessened but I am having side-effects which are bad. Aching in my lower back, heaviness in my limbs, even worse rage and weepiness than I had before. I am cutting the patch up trying to come off it over a few weeks. Can anyone relate to these PMS type symptoms. I have had a few attempts before with patches. I am so disappointed. I will be going back to flushing hell again when I am off this but for some reason I dont seem to be able to tolerate the HRT. Coming off after a trial of it is horrible. I think if anything the early waking anxiety gets worse if it possible could! I feel damned if I try HRT and damned if I dont. This is all without taking the progestin which makes things even worse. Have any ladies like me found the side-effects of even low dose oestrogen too much to put up with in exchange for a diminishing of hot flushes. Have you taken another route? I have been offered citilopram, an a.d. by my G.P. but have been scared to take it.

Simba, as you are still having periods, there is no sure way to know what your flashing is coming from. Did you know that low Progesterone can also cause flashing? If low P was your problem, progestin is a synthetic Progesterone, and will not help you the same as if you were to take something like "Prometrium" which has natural progesterone in it.

Have you had an actual blood serum analysis to see what is what with your hormones? If not, it may pay to have one done, and then you will have a "rough" idea as to what to replace, and you may well find the answer lies more in BHRT rather than the synthetics which your body doesn't seem to like.

Take Care,
Viktoria
