Hi sisters,

I had a hysterectomy - my ovaries are still intact - in 1998 and never had any problems until a couple of years ago. I have never taken HRT's and don't plan to.

Especially the past year, I have had panic attacks, palpitations, cold and hot flashes, esp. in the wee hours of the morning which cuts down on restful sleep dry.gif but I'm confused! Shouldn't I be done with all of this by now? I don't have periods so I have no idea when I'm ovulating. My doc tells me my ovaries are in ovarian failure wink.gif and my FSH is high......

How long does this stage last approximately? Am I in peri or post? ohmy.gif How do you know when you don't have all your parts?

I am also getting vaginal discharge and some abdominal discomfort like a period, almost. It has stopped now but it was bothersome for about 2 weeks. Anyone have that problem and have a hysterectomy too?

Anyone else get occasionally out of breath? Is that meno related too?

Lots of questions......all I'm taking is Premensil for the hot flashes. The article here on panic attacks has helped me greatly!

Dear Sing,

I can really empathize with the "when will it be over?" blues. I will be 56 in April and I just got a whopper of a period a week ago. I was furious! I was so cranky my husband did not know what to do, until I said "I am cranky, leave me alone!!" That did it.

Hang in. Things have improved for me overall so I am confident they will continue to improve. When is the big question. For all of us.

All the best,
Marcy smile.gif

How about hot flashes at 59? That's me, 4 years post. They're not really that bad anymore. I don't pay much attention to them. I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm one of those people who'll be getting them for ten years.

I've also had a lot of other annoying symptoms recently but for the first time EVER! Anyone who mentioned stress as a trigger is absolutely correct. I was sailing through perimenopause and menopause until I had a high blood pressure diagnosis and totally overreacted - totally! That was my trigger - still coping with the anxiety, chest tightness, muscle twitches, tongue issues, several months after. I lost 30 pounds (way too fast) and blood pressure has been normal. I don't take anything and hope the end is in sight.

Feel better soon!

Jenniffer,

Thanks so much for the encouraging words.

Every time I think I am done, poof, there I am battling another flood. I feel like the world's oldest living teenager.

Best,
Marcy

Hi

I am 59, was on HRT for 7 years (no probs), and now 5 months go had to come off because doc does not agree with them at my age, says they are far too dangerous. Wham, the symptoms hit after a few weeks off HRT and I am suffering really badly with day fushes and night sweats. I am up more times at night than a fiddlers elbow..........its horrid and yes stress does exacerbate it. No sleep either, really tired too. Not so panicky though, but feel anxous sometimes. Am taking isoflavones and muti vit - no good.
