I was wondering if anyone else experiences the same as me. Besides the normal hot flashes that last only a few minutes, sometimes I will have hot flashes that last for a long time, up to a few hours with no break. These seem to occur mostly if I've laid in a hot bed too long or in a hot room/clothing too long.

Also I wonder if anyone notices a spike in their blood pressure when having a hot flash. I monitor my blood pressure daily and it is usually very normal, averaging 123/80. I will notice though whenever I am having one of these "long" hot flashes my blood pressure will spike to 140/90 and doesn't go down until I can either get my body to cool off. In one case I had to take an ativan to cool down, but i think that i was experiencing anxiety at that time that caused the long hot flash. I don't always experience anxiety before these long hotflashes though.

Any thoughts or similar experiences? Thanks!

I also experience long hot flashes, but call them flushes because they last much longer then flashes. I have high blood pressure, under control with meds. I am 60 years old and had a complete hystereectomy at 47 and are still getting them. My face and ears turn red and hot, esp. in a warm room or store, when my heat at home comes up, staying to long under the blankets, eating hot foods. or stress. It is very uncomfortable and I have to carry around a fan with me so I can have it blowing on my face when needed. Have been to many doctors thinking I had some kind of dreaded disease and on many different kinds of hormones over the years, but still get them, I don't sweat at all during them. The summer time I stay in the a/c as much as possiable.

I am in the middle of one of the long hot flashes now ... and I will not take my BP because I know it will be up and I don't want to stress out about it.

It has happened before where it goes away every now and then but it seems to last for days on end. The one thing that helped me the last time this occured was to exercise .... I got on the treadmill and it seemed to take it away. It's now back but I had a 5 month break from it.

Guess I am going on the treadmill tonight! biggrin.gif

Hi, I am getting the same thing at the moment, and exercised in the morning, but by night time all hell broke out laugh.gif . Do you exercise closer to bedtime to get a good effect? I am wondering if there is a really good time to exercise rather and hours and hours before sleeping.

5 month break? I hope you get the same result again!

I try and exercise either right after work or after supper ... I generally start feeling tired and listless around those times so I try and give myself a boost. I don't want to do too much right before bedtime because I don't want to mess up my sleep, and I am very routine oriented. Right now I am uninspired to exercise so I still haven't gotten on the treadmill yet .... but my face isn't on fire anymore - that was a fun couple of days!!!! blink.gif

Cheers!
