I have only been having hot flashes for about a month or so. In the beginning it was just 1-2 a day, maybe 3 and missing days? but I noticed just last week, they have jumped up in intensity/duration and frequency. Now we are talking hot flashes at night, at least 8-10 a day.

Is this normal for pete's sake?? to go from 1 a day last month to literally every single day of multiple hot flashes? I mean I even woke up this morning with a hot flash, felt like I had just gotten back from a beach in the Bahamas.

I just found out today that I'm going out of town to a conference to either Florida or California w/in the next couple of months and all I can think about is good grief, if I'm having major hot flashes in 20 degree weather, what is the heat going to do to me? I'll be running around in a bikini......LOL

I once even had a hot flash when I was walking outside in about 25 degree weather, now tell me that's normal?? I guess I am just curious if the intensity/duration/frequency of these hot flashes means I am going full throttle into menopause in a month's time? that's not possible is it?

Thanks
Suz

Montana, you poor thing! You are having a time of it, aren't you. Menopause can present in many different ways...there is no set rules. I hope you are journalling what is happening to you, so you can show your doctor! Also if your menopause symptoms are coming so fast and so strong, I really would go see a doctor about it. Rarely, a sudden stop in estrogen production can cause some really serious problems. I don't want to scare you, but just be aware of that.

We all feel awful when our estrogen gets really low...it is very unpleasant to be sure! But you are young and to have those symptoms come on so fast and hard is worth a trip to the doctor. Just to make sure all is well with you and it is only menopause. Mine took several years...I started having peri symptoms at 37 and stopped periods at 46. Perhaps you will get some replies from women who did go into menopause very quickly.....

Again....I think if this continues, you need to go to the doctors again.

Suz,

I just went through about of hot flashes too......one every hour or less of every day for a few months. I got all clammy, especially in the middle of the night. I'm glad I didn't start dripping sweat. I went for an acupuncture treatment and it really helped me plus I took something called Simplex F that the acupuncturist prescribed. I only took it for a week or so. Hot flashes continued to subside over time. I'm almost hot flash free since mid August of this year. It doesn't matter if it's cold, hot, breezy, etc., they come anyway. I hope you get through this soon.

Hugs,
Karen

Floater, that wouldn't scare me. Actually the way my periods have been the last two months, I would love to not get a period ever again. I thought I was going to die and I usually don't have periods like that! unfortunately my GYN doc thinks I am too young for this (if you read in my other message she thinks in your 50's is too young too!!). the only good thing she did was check my thyroid and diabetes panel (clear) and gave me a lab slip for my FSH to be tested.

Uh-Oh-I'm getting another one and I just woke up for a second to let the dog out (where's it snowing, I might add)
it does feel like a roller coaster but I'm glad I have this board to come to for help, especially when I get a hot flash and it just entails one of my ears going bright red!

I have also noticed that not only do I get hot flashes but now I am constantly warm and no way in heck am I weareing a sweater!! I might have to look into that Simplex F you are talking about. Someone else mentioned VItex as well. I am on so many herbs and vitamins just trying to stay healthy (my trigs were way up and now there not thanks to my regimen laugh.gif ) and my cholesterol came down 20 points too (from 192-172) that I'm hestitant to start taking any more!

floater, I have been journaling what has been happening for me and I found online a 'perimenopausal journal' and printed several copies of that and it's funny looking back now my cycle is way irregular; I think just cuz I finally documented it and saw it all at once, I'm starting to finally put the pieces together!
but as my GYN said 'I"m too young!!" haha..
