Just wondering if anyone has had daily diarrea as a side effect from lexapro. I have been on it for almost 5 weeks and although it has helped tremendously with anxiety and skipped heartbeats, about a week after I started taking it I would get watery diarrea. (sorry) I usually had a normal bowel movement when I got up and then around mid morning and sometimes after lunch all of a sudden I better get to the bathroom!!! No cramping or spasms, just urgency. This has been going on for 4 weeks now and also about an inch below the pointy part of my right rib and over to the right in upper tummy area is really tender and sore. Anyone had this? Ideas welcome. Thanks.

Suzie....I take Paxil, which is another SSRI anti depressant and I have not had that problem. I believe it can be a side effect of them though. I think I tend to go the other way....more of a constipation issue. Anyway, long term diar. is not healthy for you, it makes your body not absorb nutrients properly. I think if I were you I might go see a doctor, as this could be potentially harmful to your health.

Suzie,
I was on Effexor for about 5 weeks, and had diarrhea the whole time. Like you, I didn't feel bad, no cramping or anything. Just would have to run to the bathroom right after I ate anything! Finally, due to that, and other sexual side effects, I went off the Effexor. I was feeling worse on it than off of it.
So, yes, I think the Lexapro can cause diarrhea - as many AD's do.
