Hi...I desperately need help.

I am in my 20's, and don't have menopause. However, a few months back, I started experiencing severe itching in my vagina. This itching is usually at the top of the "lips" or right inside them (especially the edge's) - it persisted to the point that after a couple of weeks, I started getting small bumps all over my vagina (like a rash) - I went to Urgent Care when this happened and she did a urine test (for UTI) but it came back normal - she figured it was a yeast infection even though I never had any discharge or odor or anything. So she gave me Diflucan (said take one and then one more 7 days later) and an ointment that I was supposed to insert inside the vagina with a tube (said do this for 3 days, one time a day before bed).....well so I did it and it did seem to make the rash subside and definitely relieved the itching. However, a couple weeks later, I started my period and this rash just reappeared with the severe itching. I went to my doctors and got blood tests done to rule out everything (diabetes, etc, and got a pap smear too). Well, she also said it was probably just a yeast infection or maybe an allergy and so gave me Diflucan and a cortisone cream. So I used this about a week ago, and though it helped a little bit with the rash, the itching (though not as severe) is still there. To make matters worse, the "rash" has now seemed to spread to my inner things.
I am really just hopeless now, I don't know who to go to or what is actually going on. No one seems to be diagnosing anything right - I'm not sure if this is really a yeast infection because I don't have any other symptoms...but if it is one, why does it keep coming back right away?

What can I do? Has anyone experienced this...are there possibilites that I could just out of no where get allergic to something?? Any advice would help.

Thanks.

Oh I forgot to add...in the beginning, before I went to any of the doctors, I had purchased Vagisil cream from the store and tried that - it only made the rashes worse it seemed.

(Oh, and I started birth control, but only AFTER my second "yeast infection" diagnosis...so I'm sure it has nothing to do with that.)

quaker: Rashes can be very mysterious. Are you using a new perfume, powder, soap, body lotion? How about your underwear; any synthetic material? Try wearing cotton undies only. I would consult an allergist if I were you; this has gone on long enough and wondering and worrying isn't going to help. Good luck, hope you get some answers soon...

Robin gave you very good advice. Quaker, it's also possible that you're allergic to the Vagisil or one of the ingredients in it and that made everything worse.

I once had similar problems because my jeans were too tight.

Cotten (or just a cotten lining) is definately the way to go - not too sexy but it's better in the long run.

It could be an allergy but I think you should see a different doctor. They should not be telling you that it is "probably" a yeast infection. They should actually test for it, it takes 2 minutes and gives a definate yes or no, they should not prescribe yeast infection meds without testing for yeast.

When I was 16 I had a fungal infection, which the gyno was never able to cure. I finally went to a dermatologist when it started growing craters down my legs, and he cured it pronto!

Two additional questions---have you moved recently so that you are using different water to wash your clothes?? Have you changed laundry detergent/dryer sheets/fabric softener??

I started using everything cotton - stopped using Always pads - stopped using fabric softner and haven't changed anything or added anything different into my life.

Today, I seemed to develop the same type of rash along my stomach horizontal on either side of my belly button. I am definitely calling my doctor again and not leaving there until I get answers. I am freaking out.
I didn't even know we could test for yeast infections - WHY haven't the other two doctors done this?! They tested me for diabetes, but that was it.

Like I said, the yeast infection pill seems to subside the vaginal itching and rash for a bit...and not completely...but it does something. I think my doctors just used that info to think that then thats what must be my problem.

I don't know if I should go to the gyno, dermatologist, allergy specialist or what. Who would know about this?
