Hi Peri/Meno Sisters,

I am Peri and am going on month two with no period. This month has been hell month for me. For three weeks I have itched almost non stop on my face and ears. My eyes are puffy right above my cheek bones and my ear lobes are itchy, burning and swollen. I went to the docs and he told me to get Benadryl to use. It worked for a few days and symptoms cleared up. Now the itchies are back again with a vengeance and the Benadryl is not working. I am lucky to get a few hours rest a night. The doc also told me to use Keri lotion, but my face is literally drying up before me. I look a mess and feel a mess. I was so weepy and emotional this morning from lack of sleep and feeling like I am going to go insane if I can't get relief from this.

I am under a great deal of stress too, so I am sure it doesn't help this situation. I know this is a common thing for us ladies, but has anyone had the face/ear thing going on? I am real curious if anyone has any natural remedies to stop the itching?

My SO just went into town to get me a variety of anti-itch things like Gold Bond and Calamine Lotion. Has anyone used these things? Benedryl lotion didn't work, so the doc switched me to the capsules. I take 50 mg. every six hours, but to no avail. Maybe I am building an immunity to Benedryl.

I don't see the doc for another 5 days, so any suggestions from you would be so kindly appreciated.

Valerie

I'm afraid I can't help you there, but I just wanted to send you loads of hugs and encouragement.
Perhaps putting your head on a cool "hot water bottle" covered with a soft towel will bring a bit of relief as the warmth in bed might make the itch worse?
Perhaps you could try some other antihistamine cream?
Hope it gets better soon!
Hugs, Jonie

Jonie,
Thanks for the hugs and encouragement. I am going to try the cool "hot water bottle" and see if it brings some relief. It is especially bad at night in bed. It must be the warmth thing. My sweetie went into town and bought a boat load of different ointments and lotions bless his heart.

Meanwhile, I am making Christmas cookies and have the music going to keep my hands preoccupied this afternoon. smile.gif

Enjoy your day Jonie!

Best,

Valerie

I have trouble with itchy ear lobes and have found Hydrocortizone with Aloe Vera very effective. This symptom has been with me since mid-summer.

I too get the itchy ear lobes occasionally. Never had the face itchies YET, thankfully! When my ear lobes itch I use hydrocortizone like Sybilleruth. Works wonders. Have you changed face makeups lately? Thinking it might possibly be a reaction to something. Whatever it is it certainly sounds uncomfortable! Hope you find relief soon! unsure.gif

I've developed this symptom too...I keep thinking it might have something to do with my thryoid. My eyess are itchy, sore, watery and puffy. I look awful; and make-up only makes it worse. It acts like allergies, but would I develop allergies all of a suddent that I've never had before? I haven't changed the products I use, and no matter how much I lay down with a cool pack on my face, my eyes (and ears) still burn and itch.

I had this for a while when late Peri set in, and immediately my Doc put me on mild Hydrocortisone cream 3%, and I used it for a week, and then slowly taperd off [you 'can' get rebound itches if you don't slow taper off], after that I was told to use a cream called "Calmurid" cream, and as I tapered off the hydrocrtisone cream, I added tiny amounts of the Calmurid. Since then my skin and ears have looked and felt normal. So as others have also suggested the hyrdro cream, I can only add to that.smile.gif

I hope you feel better soon as this itching is so awful. sad.gif

Hi Ladies,

I had a much better night. I stopped the Benadryl and used hydocortisone cream my sweetie bought and with 10 minutes the itch stopped for several hours. I only woke up twice last night to apply the cream and it seemed to help. My eye lids have been swollen and burning too. I changed makeup and moisturizer a couple of weeks ago and it still came back. I know my thyroid was checked and it is fine, however I still have to go back to get further test from the high calcium blood count. I know other ladies were suggesting parathyroid could be the issue. Anyway, today I feel a little more human. I will also try some of the Calmurid cream in a few days to taper off the hydrocortisone.

Thank you so much for all your advice. This place is just the best, when you think you are all alone going through all these crazy body issues and finding so many women going thru many of the same things.

Bless you all! smile.gif

Don't use too much of the steroidal creams and don't apply warm anything. It will make it worse. Try a soft ice pack. You can also apply Witch Hazel (if you can stand the smell). It works wonders!
Peace,
Susan
