Hi - I'm a newbie to this site. I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and have been on the Vivelle-Dot patch .0375 mg twice a week. I just recently had my annual exam and asked if I could be put on something that was equivalent but not in a patch form. I have had great success with Vivelle-Dot but wanted to get away from the patch.

She put me on Premarin .3 tablets taken daily. Has anyone out there had better success with one over the other? Are they truly equivalent? Will I see any symptom changes by going to Premarin? Are there different side effects?

Just want to make sure I'm not making a mistake from going to the patch to Premarin as Vivelle-Dot worked great for me.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. smile.gif

Hi and welcome to Power Surge, home of the greatest women anywhere.

Premarin is a very controversial subject on this website, as it is world-wide, since it is a synthetic hormone rather than a plant-based one. That said, I have been on Premarin for not quite a month and have had fabulous results with no side effects. My peri/meno story is an out-of-the-ordinary one, and it could be that you will do well on BHRT. After researching and talking to my doctor, I decided to go with Premarin.

Other women will have exellent feedback for you, on both sides of the coin. Listen to their wisdom, discuss with your dotor and decide accordingly.

Wishing you all the best,

I would be cautious with the premarin.....because it is not a hormone your body produces, there are many estrogen replacements available that are. And many are as effective as premarin. I would do some research.

Either way, I only wish you the best of health, so do whatever it takes to be well!! I take Paxil and many people are opposed to that as well, but I don't care...for me it works, and that is what is most important. I does become a quality over quantity issue!!

Best to both of you always

Well, do you eat hay? If so, Premarin could be a good choice! I'm just kidding, that is what Dr. Uzzi asks women in his book who take Premarin or Prempro.

Premarin, since it is made of horse estrogens, not human, has many types of estrogen unknown to the human body. Extra estrogens you don't need, let alone foreign estrogens.

There are estradial pills (regular pharmaceutical prescription type, not compounded) that are bioidentical. Ask your doctor about them, if you are interested in something less unnatural.

Good luck and welcome.
