I've never slept great but this is ridiculous. I wake up 5 - 6 times a night. I don't know if I wake up because I have to pee, or if I think I might as well pee as long as I'm awake. I've upped my estradiol, added prometrium, bought a white noise machine, gotten a night guard for my teeth (dr. though teeth clenching might be disturbing my sleep). I'm really resistant to the idea of sleeping pills. I'm a recovering alcoholic and if something has any potential at all to get addicted to it, I will. Has anyone had any luck with melatonin?

Chris,

Sorry about your sleeping problems. I can relate because I have had a hard time with insomnia the last several months. It's understandable in your situation that you would not want to take sleeping pills. I take Ambien because I just could not take the lack of sleep along with the almost constant anxiety I've been experiencing. I have not tried melatonin but I work with someone who uses it and says it works well for her. Hope you get some refreshing sleep.

Take care.

Hi Chris,
Many moons ago - I tried melatonin, it was ok except, for me - I felt a little groggy in the morning, took about a full hour to wake up. And yet - I've had friends that tried it - felt great, no problems. Everyone's chemisty is different.

The clenching of the teeth ...well, that's sounds like anxiety. That happened to me - my jaw would actually hurt when I would wake up. What I did when I conciously noticed clenching my teeth - I told my self...relax, let go - amazing how quickly it can change. It took me a few weeks to stop the clenching but it did stop - and I didn't have to wear the teeth guard anymore.

Take care.

I could have written your post word for word. The waking up, the pee question,- who knows why I wake- I just want to sleep. Since I'm also in recovery I have spent a lot of time and money finding an herbal remedy. So many that did'nt work! I have found a couple of combo remedies that give me 4 hours of good, deep sleep, without nightmares, ( that was a problem too), I now wake up once, go right back to sleep and when I wake in the morning I feel great- no grogginess. The combos I've liked include passiflora/passionflower and that seems to be the best, for me at least. Along with that, magnolia bark, ziziphus spinosa and magnesium. I have found that any herbal remedy combination containing two of these gives me that good sleep relief. I have found products Melo-sleep ( NOT Mela-sleep, thats different), Seditol and most inexpensively, Hylands Calmsforte have these components. I do think boosting these herbs with magnesium helps if the product does'nt have it in there already. All of these products do say you need to take them regularly for 5-10 days before they work, although I noticed improvement on the 4th night. I am finding that by shopping labels at the drugstore, GNC etc that these can be found inexpensively, and the same ingredients elsewhere for big bucks.
Anyway, it was funny to read your post and see an absolute mirror of me!
