Okay, ladies,

I've posted about this before but I wanted to know if anyone else has gone through this. I get an achey feeling in my left leg, starting at my hip and radiating down my leg, hurting mostly at the hip and the front of my calf. I told you how it hurt sometimes when I was doing my exercises, or when I was cold, but it's happening more now, so I'm worried. I know I should get it checked out, but you know......I will if it doesn't stop. Usually, one tylenol takes care if it, but yesterday I had to take two, and then it started hurting again a few hours later. I've read all of the posts on this forum, but haven't seen anything exactly like it. (RoundRobin did say she has pain in her hip that was probably tendonitis.)

What has me scared is someone on one of the forums (can't remember where) mentioned being checked for a blood clot if you are having aches. I had this two summers ago and actually went to the urgent care to get it checked out. The doctor said I had overused it and needed to do stretching before exercising. Anyway, the aches completely went away for over a year and have just come back fairly recently. I have started an aerobic class called Zoomba recently. We do a LOT of twisting, jumping, kicking, etc., so maybe this is the reason it's started up again? Anyway, I'm hoping this is just another meno symptom and it will pass (again).

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Deb

Hi Deb!!!

I don't think you have a blood clot. It usually doesn't start in the hip. Blood clots most often begin in the calves. The exercise is probably what's causing it....but why not just call your doc and get it checked out? Even if it turns out to be nothing, it's worth the peace of mind...

Thanks, again, Robin, for caring, and you make perfect sense. I know I should call her and make an appointment, but this is what happens....... just thinking about it makes me anxious and then I worry about it for days. Finally, I make the appointment, worry even more, and finally I'm on my way to the appointment. My heart's pounding and I can't calm myself down. Then, of course, my BP is HIGH because of it, so I worry about that. Needless to say, I have major anxiety about going to the doctor.......

Like I said, though, I will call if it doesn't get better.

I do think you're right, though, Robin, it's probably the exercise. I'll give it a few days and see........

Many thanks, and I hope you feel better soon. (I'm sure I read that you've been sick for a couple weeks and you're going to the doctor? Well, I hope everything turns out well and they can get you feeling better very quickly!)

Unsure if it's meno related or not, but OMG lately my legs have been aching terribly. Comes and goes, is worse when I stand after sitting for a period of time. I'm going to try adding a little more potassium to my diet (bananas!) because I remember hearing my Gram say she had to buy bananas because her legs were paining her. Worth a try. Do you think men go through this crap???

Kleeo,

That's a good idea about bananas, I haven't eaten them much lately. Maybe that's all it would take to feel better...a banana a day! It's certainly worth a try! Thanks a "bunch"! (hee hee)

Don't know if this has any medical merit, but when I was a little girl, I used to get really bad leg cramps. My mom would always have me drink tonic water (quinine) and the cramps went away. Not sure if this folk remedy really works, but I thought I'd mention it...

With in the last week my legs have been bothering me alot.It is mostly the back of my thighs and calves. It kind of has me worried because it is just different from any other aches and pains I have experienced. I have lower back pain also so it very possibly could be related.Men do not have to deal with half the crap that we ladies do. Do you take bioidentical hormones?
HUGS back at ya!

Hi Ladies,

I've wondered about this before but I thought I'd throw it out to you ladies and see what you think:

I have lower back pain and what I believe to be sciatica in my left leg. This is the question I have....could carrying a heavy purse on the opposite shoulder cause these kinds of pain? I have to admit my purse is ridiculously heavy ( I have no clue why I need all that stuff, I never use most of it!) and I never switch it to the other shoulder. I was thinking maybe it somehow would alter the way I walk and, after a prolonged time, this could cause pain in my back and hip. That, in turn, could be rediating down my leg. I carry my purse on my right shoulder and it's my left leg that hurts. Any ideas? Maybe this is a wacky theory, maybe it's just that I'm getting older? (Nah, couldn't be that!!!)

Any response would be appreciated!

Thanks, Deb

(Heaven forbid it actually BE my heavy purse...I don't know how I could go ANYWHERE without ALL THAT DUMB STUFF!!)
