Hi Gals!
Well, can I hear from you about what foods seem to upset our "mature" and "aged" tummies? I can't even eat peanut butter anymore without running to the potty in about an hour or so and its really miserable. I remember reading about mean-o-paws (as I call it), and the gal said she was only able to eat mashed potatoes! Well, I couldn't do that because I am hugely dairy intollerant! Just curious to see if others are experiencing the same thing. I am not diabetic only hypothyroid and anxious!!!
Thanks for your responses!

Well, I have been told by my gastroenterologist that as you age you lose a lot of enzymes that normally would help you digest food. She also said hormones play a role too. It's not fun. I go in and out of being comfortable. Right now, luckily, things are going well!

Hi Meryl,
Thanks for your response. Yes, I take daily enzymes but in most instances they don't seem to help. So, no dairy
or milk proteins, no citrus, and no to most things.....! Of course, veggies don't bother me at all. Wished there
was a chocolate broccoli!
Glad you are doing good too. I did read on the board about gals who have Crohn's disease and they were talking
about sipping on Propel. I have been doing that but it also doesn't seem to really help. Oh well and life goes on but I really do appreciate your response!
Happy day

Hi! I read a lot on Power Surge but have not posted much. I will be 60 next month, and I too have the problem of not being able to eat like I used to. Was trying to be vegan, but grains just tear me up. A couple of days ago I just started eating salmon and vegetables with about 1/4 cup brown rice. Well, things started settling down. I have not been diagnosed as having celiac disease, but have found out that wheat and gluten really, really, bothers me. Also, mashed potatoes are great made with vegetable or chicken broth, or a bit of mayonniase. I find that with the mayo it is rich and needs nothing more than a little water to thin down a bit. I can't metabolize fat too good anymore so, for myself, have had to quit the mayo in the mashed potatoes. Some days I feel like I am down to bananas as far as eating goes. Also, sorbitol in many antacids messes with the guts, too. So, for indigestion, a two inch piece of banana helps more a lot of the time. Bananas have some type of substance in them that is said to act like a mild antacid. Has worked for me. Hope you all are feeling better by now.

Funny you should say that about bananas as they give me indigestion

LOL, just shows we are all so different and what works for one doesn't work for the other.
BTW I love your PS user name

Hi! Good to hear from you. Sorry the banana thingie doesn't work for you. Usually when I grab a banana, my three dogs (Banjo, Fiddle and Patches) come running cause they know they each get a piece. They can actually hear me tear into the top part of the banana and they come running from another part of the house.

I've had to give up all gluten and most dairy. I have tried to re-introduce dairy in the past couple of weeks with just plain yogurt and I tend to be able to handle that in small quantitites but not the wheat. I think my new diet bothers others more than me though... They think I'm strange..

I was excited when I saw this thread. Hey, where are all the 60 plusers?

I have been off gluten and dairy for the most part for the last 4 months...as I was having terrible stomach upsets/gurgling/bloating and IBS like stools (mainly loose and thin, sometimes constipated!).....my tummy problems disappeared, so I re-introduced some wheat and dairy, but the wheat is still a problem, but not ALL of the time (?)
Eating bananas isn't supposed to be good if you have an intolerance to wheat or have an adrenal problem...which I have both, so I stay away for the most part, but they do have a laxative effect...ask my husband he eats 2 a day and boasts about going to the loo 2-3 times a day!!
CarolH....I hear you about the fact that not eating gluten and dairy bothers other people more than myself!!!...wierd that.

Hi GreenPastures!
I'm here.....with all the 60 plusers.....! Wished I could say it gets better in time but it doesnt. There is supposed to be some new blood test that really accurately tests for food allergies and sensitivities but I have no idea of what it is. They used to use the ELISA blood test but this is supposed to be better than that!
Good luck all of you in finding substitutes to help you with those issues. I have major dairy issues but have found some wonderful substitutes that do work for me and I so I don't feel like crying in my what-ever because I can't eat this or that. I think that was the worst part of it.....having the doc tell you that you can't eat what "normal" people can eat and for the rest of you life you have to carry that around!
Happy day,
xoxo lr3216

Hi, Everyone! Yes, I am certainly doing better without dairy and wheat and gluten. Have cut back on the bananas, too. Now only have a bite every once in a while--not several times a day like I was doing. So, things are definitely going better. Thanks for all your support. I am so glad all of you are here.
