Well the results of my painful colonoscopy are in, 3 weeks later! The doctor told me that I have a "solitary rectal ulcer" and he has referred me to a surgeon to see if he suggests I get surgery. I am not really sure what that would consist of, but the word "surgery" scares me and depending on how invasive it would be, I would rather be awake and have a local if that is possible. The thought of being "put out completely" scares me.

I am sorry your results weren't picture perfect! Darn it anyway!

I also have pretty big fear of being put under....haven't been put under since I was 5 years old! On the flip side of that, not sure I would want to have surgery like that while awake either! Tough call that one is!

I wish you the best and hope your surgery isn't too invasive. Good luck and keep us abreast of what is happening!

Not sure, but I think there is a test they can do to see if you will react badly or be allergic to the meds they give you to knock you out for surgery. I've been 'under' many times (many surgeries)...it's not that bad and actually the number of people who react badly to anesthesia is quite small....maybe you won't have to have surery at all...I'm wondering what they would do for an ulcer in your colon; remove it? I'm thinking more along the lines of medicines they will give you along with a special diet to heal it...Anyways...the good part is at least you know what is wrong. Keep us posted..you are feeling better soon..
