Hi Everyone:
I have no idea where to post this. But, does anyone have really bad belching, bloating, reflux and in general it feels like food just sits in the stomach? Mine is horrible!!! And is seems worse the week before my period! This has gone on two years now. I've had a stomach scope and I have a very small hernia. Acid blockers don't work! Any advice?

Yes,- I have the same problem. Burping...after eating or drinking. I chew the food well, eat slowly and I don't eat unwholesome stuff. I drink mostly still water plus one cup of decaff coffee in the mornings. The burping gets worse when I'm feeling anxious/ panicky/ stressed so I guess I could be swallowing too much air. Would be interested to know if there are any other explanations ! My doctor told me that it's related to anxiety. I doubt if it's the only reason, though.

Are any of you supplenting your diets with soy? Soy can cause gas.
I had trouble with gas when I took soy. I solved it with activated carbon pills. They soak it up. However, don't use it if you are on any prescription medicines, it will soak that up too. There is something available OTC called Gas-X. I also think Gaviscon works--but I'm not sure if that is still prescription. Ginger helps indigestion--even in ginger snap cookies but you can get ginger pills too.

P.S. Don't try to treat it with maalox or you can get diarrhea from the magnesium in it. Also Pepto Bismol will turn your stool black--I didn't like that.

I have to take omeprazole every day. (Generic form of pepcid I think.) If I don't, I get a pain under the left breast area and horrible gas. I have a small sliding hiatal hernia and I was diasnosed with LPR 3 years ago. My stomach has done some strange things over the past few years. Sometimes I can go for months without a lick of troubles, then BANG. Tummy troubles.

Heather: Sounds like you might benefit from taking digestive enzymes (like papain) or some of the pro-biotics. Acidophillus, Lactobacillus...some pills combine the two. Also, I find that a walk right after I eat a meal makes all the difference in the world for whether or not I digest the food normally, or it just 'sits' in my stomach... Hope this helps..

My gas/burping is due to food intolerance.... I don't get it at all when I am on my "safe" foods diet. When I eat something new I know if it is not ok as it either causes really bad gas pains and 24 hours of burping or bad stomach cramps. I only found this out by cutting right down on the foods I ate and then adding them back one at a time.
I think the body does get worse at digesting during peri/meno and I guess anxiety would make it worse as it does affect the digestive juices...but could be worth keeping a food and moods diary to see if it is worse just when you are anxious or when you eat certain things.
My (useless) doc said that most cases of IBS/Gastritis are due to food intolerances... it's just that the docs don't know which foods!

Lindy..that's brilliant. I have just this evening been out for a meal with some friends - someone's birthday. Had gas when I drank plain water, but then no more after calamari and salad then steak and salad. Just drank still water. I had been eating irregularly and skipping meals until this week. Anything with sugar seems to make it worse and also anything with white flour. Proteins, veg ( except green peppers !) and fruit seem to be no problem as do dairy products. I will, note reactions down in my diary from now on to pinpoint exactly what might be causing the windies. Oh..a friend who gets hot flushes had one plus gas, a few minutes after drinking a glass of diet most famous canned drink in the world. Bubbles plus caffeine rush. I told her but she said, " No..it's the glass of water you gave me. ". Aaargh ! Thanks a lot to everyone posting about this problem.

Every now and again I have air in my chest and I have trouble burping. Today was one of those episodes and it set off a panic attack. I hate those!!! It might have been the caffeine from the chocolate I had earlier. I seem to be better now after some ginger ale. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Lactaid and Gas X (usually the generic version) have helped me! Able to eat milk products again!!! Also, beano sometimes helps with gas producing veggies.

I have IBS which seems to have worsened since peri has started. It just hits. Sometimes I'm so bloated it hurts really bad. Like I have a bowling ball for a stomach. It just feels Hard. The gas is out of control. I'm surprised my dogs still love me

Then I have times where my stools are very loose. There are meds but I've decided not to take them. For me eating less is the answer. Not allowing myself to get completely full.

I had this so bad at the beginning of peri! It freaked me out. Again, Magnesium is good for the stomach. That is what is in a lot of stomach antacids. Oh, also, Apple Cider Vinegar. I take that with a flare up and it works well. I use Braggs. The cider with Mother in it. Not the cheapies at the grocer. This is from the health food store.
I tried lemon juice out of curiosity and it worked too. i think it neutralizes the acid in the stomach
