Full Version: Just 33, can this be perimenopause, or hormonal?

I have been having episodes of a racing heart during the night and shaking. I'm wearing an event monitor for the racing heart right now. I've recorded a few events. I was told by my cardio it is SVT and he put me on a beta blocker, metoprolol. Yesterday I saw an electrophysiologist (specializes in electrical system of the heart)..he looked at my ekg strips from my events and says he does not think it is SVT, but rather sinus tachycardia....normal rhythm just very fast...up to 150 bpm! These episodes always happen at night or early in the morning. The last couple of weeks I have been waking up now and then with night sweats....not a drenched sweat....not all over....sorry as I know this may be too much info but mainly just my chest...between my breasts...and then if I'm laying with my legs together....the insides of my legs will be sweaty too. I then start trembling in my quadriceps and eventually I start shaking all over. That kind of shake you can't control. This usually happens in the early morning....between 5-7 a.m. I JUST turned 33 last week. Plus I started my period later than most girls...I was 14, almost 15. Wouldn't that mean I would start menopause later as well? My periods have remained pretty regular but some of my cycles over the last several months have been shorter...rather than 28 days, sometimes 24-26 days.
I'm seeing the gyn on November 6th and have been thinking about asking about hormonal testing. If hormones are causing me these strange symptoms, will it show up on the blood tests, or are the hormones always changing, so maybe not show from one day to the next? Does this all sound hormonal to you all? I had a ton of blood work done in July, including thyroid and that was all normal, and I was having the racing heart, etc then. I'm also having horrible insomnia and just feel like I'm going crazy with not being able to get a good nights sleep. I can't seem to sleep for more than one hour w/out waking up!
I'd love your opinions. Thanks!

Anytime I hear a lady speak of problems during sleep and with sleep I suggest you have a sleep study done at a reputable sleep center. Sleep apnea can cause heart problems, sleep deprivation, and so on. Just something to consider if everything else checks out. It could also be anxiety attacks. I think they can happen at night too. Seems like they are called night terrors. A sleep center to determine if something like that was happening.

I almost think you are too young for perimenopause but you could very well have a hormone imbalance. I would think this would have shown up in some blood work somewhere along the way.

Good luck and hugs!

You sound like me hon. Perimenopause started for me at age 32 nearly the exact same way. I was never anxious before my hormones decided to carry on. And I too started my periods at 14. I honestly don't think that has anything to do with when you go through menopause or start peri for that matter. There are lots and lots of women on here that started this stuff in their 30's. It's not at all uncommon.

I wish you shake-free days. Read all the articles and the message boards. You'll find comfort and realize so many women feel the same way.

My peri started with heart symptoms before anything else manifested. I was then only 43 years old, very young in my family line for menopause. Early menopause, even as young as 32 can be brought on by any number of factors. My heart symptoms consisted of a sensation of skipped beats, stoppage and a sensation of falling. I was put on a holter monitor for three days. The doctor didn't really find anything. Then I had odd sweating and heat over the face. The doctors did hormonal tests and didn't find anything unusual. The FSH was a shade high. Then six months later my periods went haywire. Very long heavy periods, followed by long amenorrhea. This went on for 2 1/2 years In September of 2005 my period was long overdue. It never came. Then in July of 2006 I had a trace of sludge. Nothing since. My symptoms have now subsided. I don't take hormones.

The symptoms you are having seem rather a severe form and concidering your age, I think you are at a good place with a Cardiologist right now. Please post back and let us know what is going on!
