hi ladies,

my husband has been having chest pains and chest press. for a few months now, and most likely it's anxiety....he's had a few tests, and is going for more in November. My question is, ONE of the dr.'s he's seeing, gave him CELEXA for anxiety, because he thinks it COULD be related to anxiety and depression. NOw, I know that to be the truth, you CAN easily get chest pains from anxiety, but i'd like to have as many opinions as i can right now on CELEXA....i thought that was a mood stabilizer. Anyone here take it? Any weirdo side effects? my husband is NOTdepressed, i should know, i live with him..lol...he's NOT depressed at all,,,but he IS anxious! so, if this is for the anxiety, fine.....but i've done some homework on the net, and a lot of sites seem to list this as a depression drug .... i don't want it throwing him into some weirdo mood or whatever, you know?

ok everyone.....thank you all for your input!

Sincerely, MyDarling

P.S. - i don't know why he didn't give him something like XANAX, which I TAKE!

Doctor's prescribe powerful AD's like candy from a Pez dispenser. Celexa and other ADs of it's ilk can worsen anxiety in BAD way. This is temporary side effect which will go away after two months. The doctor should have prescribed a benzodaipine to offset this effect until the AD kicks in. You can google akathesia (sp?) which is the cause of feeling anxious from ADs. Have your husband call his doctor and request a temporary script for xanax or valium. If the doctor refuses, then he needs to dump his irresponsible doctor!

BTW - the ADs helps enormously with anxiety only after the side effects go away. SOme peoplecan't handle the side effects or their irresponsible doctor doesn't give them a temporary sedatitive and they dump the ADs all togehter. Hang in there!

Hi Gia ...

Thank you! Yeah, i don't like the thought of an AD either! I've read to much about them, i told my husb. not to take them, and he's not going to~ i don't believe in them either. I take xanax, and you know, it works perfectly well! My husb. isn't even depressed for pete sake! He is anxious however, and tense...and to me, that's xanax country! LOL .... yes, the dr. SHOULD have prescribed xanax or something similar, but he didn't. I told my husb. to call him back, and insist on xanax!

Gia, thank you so much! sincerely, MyDarling

Hi Mydarling, its Ivy Lena, your absolutely right, hubby doesnt need celexa if he's not depressed. Celexa is one of the many antidepressents, its not as popular as paxil, zoloft or prozac but it does the same thing, it doest really address anxiety which is what it sounds like he has. The doctor should give him a script for one of the antianxiety pills, I take xanax and it works great!
