Hi guys! I found your site the night before i took the first pregnancy test and it allowed me to sleep that night! I'm nearly 49 and one half years old. I missed my period near the middle to the end of September. After being a good week or so late, I called and talked to the gyno nurse & she said to take a test, that it would show up if I was. It was negative. But, some of these symptoms are sooooo similar to pregnancy symptoms that I'm wondering if I should take another test....I'm just scared to death to.
Someone please tell me if these symptoms are peri:
- A few days before I was supposed to start my period I had strange tingling sensations in my breast, then tenderness, then
it would vary between being so sore that the seatbelt hurt, and it hurt when I took my bra off. Also had the "let-down"
sensation a couple of times. It's much better now.
- Nausea nearly all the time...except for a few days and during those days my esophagus felt nervous.. wierd.
- 2 weeks before period should have started, my left ear stopped up for a week or so, then cleared up. Then after I missed period, it did it again, but noticed ringing this time. Went away after a couple of days.
- been off the pill for about a year and periods had been somewhat heavy and I did notice they were shorter in between,
anywhere from 22 - 26 days, with one that came within 2 weeks on one occasion.
- Belching aaaaalot!
- I think some vaginal dryness, but it might be in my head.
- May have had some heart palpitations within the last six months.
I was using a diaphragm, hubby has made appointment for vasectomy! My children are 27, 24 and 18...and my second grandchild was born this past week. I feel as if I would have a meltdown if I was pregnant. I NEED ENCOURAGEMENT! THANKS.

I would get the preg blood test if I were you. That would settle the preg vs. meno question. The symptoms can be similar. All hormonal.

Keep us posted.

Grammienan,
I think I can understand what you are going through. I am 47, and for about a week I started wondering if maybe I was pregnant since I missed my first period. I have had three daughters, and I kind of always " knew" I was pregnant if I didn't start my period after Day 29. Well it has now been Day 31...and after having a very bad week of hormonal activity...I did start today...so hang in there. I am assuming you are not pregnant, just having the symptoms of perimenopause. One night last week I had to urinate every 5 minutes (so it seemed)..... and my mind started thinking ..."oh no...that is definitely a symptom of pregnancy", and when I didn't start my period within a certain amount of time...I was really starting to wonder. Not pregnant though. Just mixed-up hormones.
Let us know.

I am 47 and haven't had my period since August. I too keep wondering but my hubby got the snip a few years back. I feel like mine is coming though as I am getting the classic symptoms so maybe it will come this week.

I know how you feel though and I wouldn't want to find out I am pregnant either. I best it is just peri symptoms that you are having. If you took a test and it was negative, you are most likely not pregnant. Those tests are really accurate.

Hugs,
Mopsy

UPDATE: Well, I decided I was going to take that 2nd pregnancy test this Saturday......but I started my period TODAY!!
Last period was exactly 2 months ago today. I am soooo relieved. Thanks to you all and this web site for keeping me sane. I realize that I was not educated about peri, had no idea that symptoms were so similar to pregnancy at times. Now that I know what I'm dealing with, I think I'll be okay. NOW I can enjoy those two grandchildren God has blessed us with this year!!
