Hi Girls, I hope someone can help me out. For the past couple of years it has really hurts to have sex, so needless to say it just isn't happening. But, my big concern is it seems that for the past year or so everytime I want to try and get my libido back and try the self pleasure thing (or even if I have a "wet dream") and have an orgasim, I have intense pelvic pain. The intense pain then leads to rectal spasms that last for about an hour. I sometimes get the spasms without having an orgasim. The colon doctor says no big deal. Thanks buddy! Just had a pap test and all was well with that. I forgot to question my doctor about this subject though.

These spasms hurt so much I have to take advil, sit in a hot tub and just try to make it through them. Now I am wondering if I have something wrong wtih me. I am scared to death to have an orgasim because of the pain that follows. It's like my whole girl area goes into a spasm that eventually settles at whatever is pushed up agains my rectal area and then those spasms start.

Has anyone else every had this happen????

Thanks,
Vanessa

Finally found some old posts on this site and it seems it has happened to many woman. A few said that it started in peri and eventually went away. One suggested that it could be part of an endometriosis problem, but she had the spasms for 25 years. Since mine started a couple of years ago, hopefully they will end sometime soon. I do feel that I have endometriosis, but what can you do about that without going through big surgeries that may or may not work. At age 51 I am just hoping it will all go away soon!

Hiya,

I am going through this now.

BUT this happened to me a few years ago also so I KNOW what is causing mine. My Dr. ran out of my Ortho Novum 1/35 birth control pills to give away for free samples. He was a nice old fella- he woudl give us ladies 3 free months of BCP at our yearly visits:)

He gave me Ortho Novum 1/50 BCP's that 1 time as the freebie samples. It had higher estrogen that my normal pills. I had the WORST orgasms right from the word go. Never had that problem before either. They were horrendously painful and the muscle cramps inside my vagina would continue for several minutes after the orgasm. I lasted 1 month of those pills and threw out my other 2 packs of free pills and filled my script and was immediately back to normal- normal sex drive and normal orgasms.

That was 20 yrs ago when I was in my 20's when that happened with the BCP's:) Fast forward to now and this started again for me a yr ago. It happens ONLY at ovulation time and the pain is identical to what it felt like 20 yrs ago when I was given those higher dose estrogen BCPills.

With me- it is completely caused by high estrogen levels. I can even make it happen around ovulation without having an orgasm. All I have to do is tighten my muscles there and hold- like a Kegel exercise- and the pain and cramps begin!!

I know my Progesterone is way too low also- as my adrenal gland hormones are severely deficient and those hormones are made from progesterone.

I'm trying just taking vitamins and calcium at this point. I bought Prog. cream but I got scared because it says that the state of CA says that it causes cancer and breast cancer runs in my family so I havent dared to use it.

Next thing I am going to try adding is a herb I have read about- Grape seed extract. Supposedly it makes your body utilize more estrogen and can lower your levels- sounds good to me!!

Good luck to you and I hope your pain subsides!

Hi V, GOSH I feel for you! I have the rectal spasms occasionally and OMG are they painful! I usually get them in the middle of the night and they sometimes last an hour or so. NOTHING helps until they finally diminish. I can't imagine for the life of me what causes them, but I CAN say they are horrible! Close enough to labor pains for me!! I sometimes wondered if it had anything to do with fibroids on the uterus, because I do have them. The oddest thing, isn't it???? Hang in there. You aren't alone.

Hugs, Kleeo

Hi girls,
I have been doing so much research the past two days and I do agree they are a high estrogen problem which is what causes the endometriosis and/or fibroids.

I was doing the progesterone cream and that did help BUT I gained several pounds and blaming that I stopped taking it. I have read sources that say no dairy and read one study that said wheat can cause high estrogen.

I am also on a very low dose birth control pill, Seasonale, so I only have a period every three months. Being on BCP is supposed to help with endometriosis but I guess because they are a low dose they are not helping enough.

I am going to try some herbs I read about and maybe, just maybe, I can go off the dairy and see if that does the trick.

They are extremely painful and I am sorry that we are all feeling them!!
Thanks so much for letting me know I am not alone.

Coopersmom: I nearly fell off my chair when I read your post!!!! This EXACT same thing has been happening to me...and I admit it, I was too embarassed about it to post here. The last time my husband and I were together and I had an orgasm, the rectal spasm started and was so bad I was hyperventilating and doubled over. I sat in a hot tub, popped about 5 Advil, and verrrry slowly it went away. Thing is, I have very low estrogen levels (at least that's what the blood tests shows.) I do however, have endometriosis. Or at least I did...20 years ago. I was operated on for a big endometrioma on my left ovary.

Should I have mentioned this to my gynecologist? I feel really dumb now for remaining silent....

I wanted to add...I only started getting these when peri started...and I get them either after sex or after having a bowel movement. It's really effected our sex life. I'm going to call my gynecologist Monday and ask about them...

I'm glad I am NOT the only one that was too embarassed to talk about these spasms! The only thing with me is, I only get them in the middle of the night. AND they aren't caused by orgasms (that I KNOW about, anyway! laugh.gif tongue.gif ...and if they ARE triggered by orgasms, damnit! I'm missing the best part because I'm always sleeping!! blink.gif ) Let me know what your doc says RoundRobin. I'm curious. It MUST be something to do with meno where we never had them until this crap all started!!!
HUGS!

Robin, yes I can't wait until you talk with your doctor. And Kleeo when they started with me it was just in the middle of the night, now it is both circumstances.

Robin you say you have low estrogen but you have had endo so now I am very confused because everything I read says the endo pops back up in your life because of high estrogen. So much for that theory.

I did go to the colon doctor last year because I was scared that I had rectal cancer or something and he just acted like they were not big deal. RIGHT!!!!!

Robin, were you able to speak to your doctor about this subect? Just very curious as to what your's says.
Thanks,

This sounds very similar to having a fissure. I used to have extreme pain after a bowel movement and the pain would last for hours afterwards. Finally had surgery last year, what a relief. You might have to see a procologist.
Coopersmom
Angel, thanks for your thoughts. I did see a colon doctor. Everything was fine in that are and he really acted like the rectal spasms are just part of life for some, although he didn't seem to know why!!!

I'm bumping this thread up. I don't know why I never asked my doctor (as I said I was going to do) about this--probably some other life crisis popped up. But today this horrible condition reared its ugly head again. Rectal spasms...really, really, really painful. I found a condition on the internet called proctalgia flagux, but it applies only to men. For me, it's always after a bowel mvmt or orgasm...the spasm are a '12' on the 1-10 pain scale.

I'm afraid to be intimate with my husband because it keeps happening, and it's a real scene when it does. Has anyone out there ever asked a doctor exactly what this is? Should I ask my gynecologist or my pcp?

Hey Ladies, I've been reading the posts here and discovered quite surprising to me that I'm not alone. I too have been having rectal pain that will come on for no reason, it can be day or night but does not have anything to do with sex for me. Although, there isn't a whole lot of sex going on right now due to vaginal dryness and pain. It s*cks. Sorry for that but it does. I'm 49 and I've been on progesterone cream for the past 8 yrs. and it's done wonders for me until now.

I started some estrogen cream 3 mos. ago because I started having bad hot flashes again. ANd someone recommended that I may need a bit of estrogen. So.... because of my low libido I've gone off of it as of 3 days ago to see what happens. Nothing yet so far.

I've ordered some testosteone cream and when I get that I 'm going to try a bit to see if that helps. Any suggestions on this subject? I was gratefu to hear I wasn't the only one experiencing rectal pains though. And you are all right there is nothing you can do about them but get through them. I usually rock myself in bed and pray, pray, pray. Never tried a pain reliever, next time I will. I thought something was wrong with me though.

Hope to hear from someone. All alone in the Forest and tired of feeling this way. My hubby is very patient but this is getting ridiculous. Susan
