Full Version: Tightening labor like cramps?!
Power Surge Forums > Board Discussions > Am I Starting Perimenopause?

I don't recall having this. I have been having odd tightening sensations across my lower pelvic region, and they come and go along with period like cramps!!
It's like having braxton hicks contractions!

Anyone out there have this? Is there a reason for it?

Thank you!

I experience labor pain type cramps before and after my period. This has been going on for about two years so I've made an appointment with a ob/gyn. My sister, who is younger, also experiences these cramps. This might all be related to perimenopause, but I also have fibroids. I just want to make sure that all is well smile.gif.

yes I experienced them a year ago.. just before I figured out all my weird and scary symptoms were peri related. Now I can't prove this... but my belief is that they are caused by low progesterone. Two reasons lead me to believe this... first, all three of my babies were premature and every time I went into early labor my doctor would order progesterone shots for me to calm the muscle contractions... and several times this worked and my labor was stopped. Second, since I began using Pro-Gest progesterone cream a year ago I have not had any more of these abdominal contractions... the strange this is, I was having them even though I had a partial hysterectomy 12 years ago! It was my abdominal muscles tensing and contracting! But, as I said, it stopped(along with most of my other awful symptoms)as soon as I began using the cream and hasn't returned.

Hope that helps..

I have those too! Just part of the reason I can't wait to be through with these periods! I think in books they are just basically referred to as "pelvic pain." I have them before, during and after my period. I have been to the doctor and all is fine and dandy.

I remember exactly. Aug. 1st 2006 (Swiis 4th of July) home alone and without any warning, pain took my breath away. Like one huge long contraction. I somehow crawlwd into bed, laid frozen with pain for about 45 minutes. After I could work my way to the bathroom, I swore I must be bleeding, but I wasn't. Period came as normal about 1 week later and I was sore for a solid 2 days after. Never had it again. Dr's daid it was from the build up of the endometrium (which was too thck) and it was having like a labor reaction to try and expulge the shedding. Horrible. Don't need that again ...ever!!!
Have you gotten it like that!??!

Hi, yes, I have tightening cramps on and off again all month now since Aug. Periods are irregular as well. I never had this before, only when I had my period. Now, its totally random. I started using pro-gest and it totally does quell these cramps, especially if I apply the cream to my lower stomach, in an hour I start to feel better.

Good heavens this is ridiculous!! I'm having those tightening sensations off and on since I posted this. And I know my hormones are out of whack because I had spotting building to a period, then a period going on day 8 now. rolleyes.gif I feel so cranky. Estrogen must be having a party in there lol
