Thank you for sharing. There has always been a great deal of information on Power Surge about Premarin. Power Surge had both Wyeth-Ayerst, manufacturer of Premarin, Prempro and Premphase and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) as guests in Power Surge to specifically address the animal abuse charges. This has long been a sore point with me.
If you review the 2nd Experts page where Wyeth-Ayerst is listed (all guests are on the experts pages), you'll find that Power Surge has for years taken a strong stance on the animal abuse issue and allegations:
Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, a major, multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical company located in Philadelpha, PA. The company maintains the Wyeth-Ayerst Women's Health Research Institute, dedicated to the discovery of new therapies that meet the health needs of women through pharmaceuticals in areas such as hormone replacement therapy, endocrinology, and a wide range of reproductive diseases and disorders. Premarin, the world's first oral estrogen was introduced in 1942. Today, Premarin is the leading prescription estrogen replacement therapy in the United States, used by more than 8 million American women. They also manufacture Prempro and Premphase.
Note: Although Power Surge invited Wyeth-Ayerst to participate in a live forum to refute serious allegations of animal abuse regarding the manufacture of their Premarin family of drugs, and the abuse of pregnant mares whose urine is extracted to manufacture these drugs, Power Surge wishes to point out that it remains vehemently opposed to the mistreatment of hundreds of thousands of innocent pregnant mares. At last count, there were approximately 439 producing PMU farms. Each year, more than 100,000 mares are impregnated and tied in stalls six months each year - in stalls so small they cannot turn around, take even a few steps, or comfortably lie down. Irritating rubber sacks are strapped around the mares' groins so their urine (known as PMU, or pregnant mares' urine) can be collected to make Premarin. The mares are denied free access to water so their urine will yield a more concentrated estrogen. The foals resulting from these pregnancies are considered unwanted industry "byproducts"--most are slaughtered. For those who believe the allegations of animal abuse are the result of only radical animal rights organizations, be advised that many mainstream animal's rights associations have been vocal in speaking out against Wyeth-Ayerst's inhumane treatment of animals in the production of these drugs. So, as you can see, Power Surge hasn't been silent on this issue.
You can read the transcripts of the chats with representatives from Wyeth-Ayerst and PETA in the Web site's Library. Both PETA and Wyeth Ayerst were invited by yours truly a few years back to discuss those allegations.
There are numerous references to the Premarin family of drugs all over the Power Surge Web site. Case in point:
