Hi i was just wondering if anyone else feels really fatigued at times. I have been feeling soooooooooooooo tired for a week or so. I am 48 yrs. old, definetly in peri, last period july 07, this is the longest i have ever went. Been having day/nite sweats everyday since my last period. I just had complete blood work done, everything fine, thyroid fine. I guess my question is, is fatigue common in peri. I can''t take this feeling anymore, lol.
Thanks,
Jo Ann

Hi Jo Ann, I'm 48 too and I go through spells where the fatigue is almost unbearable! I push my way through it, but it's so annoying. It comes and goes; so I just try to deal with it and rest as much as possible when it hits. It's a common complaint among women our age, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. They claim after a while we are going to get a HUGE amount of zest back and this will ALL be over! WOO HOO!! (I sure hope they are right!!!!

)
HUGS!

Jo Ann,
Join the club! I really felt the symptoms of peri starting in late 2001. I was 45 then. I just turned 52 last month and I have now went 1 year and 2 months without a period. I have had the fatigue since mid 2003 and I still have it. Some days are better than others lately but I have to say it is rough. I thought I was just tired because I was working full time, doing all the housework and because my husband got sick, then my mother, but when I quit working full time I still was fatigued. Then of course I thought I had some disease, but I read all the posts on power surge and found that I was not alone. That alot of the girls feel this way and even lose interest and zest for things that we once loved. Hope you get to feeling better! Isn't this wonderful? LOL!!!

This is a new symptom for me as well. Usually I am a high energy person but the fatigue lasts for a week and sometimes more. I come home from work and take a nap for about an hour which seems to help.
I have gone one year and one month since I've had a period and it was at the one year mark that I noticed the extreme fatigue and hot flashes (which I thought would have dissipated by now).
I've been taking sub lingual B-12 which seems to help and once or twice per week I take an iron pill. It's made a difference so I'll see if it continues to work.
Take care,
-Tina

Hi, all. I can so relate to the fatigue you all are describing. I started this major fatigue when my periods ended two and a half years ago. I am now almost 58. I am waiting for this menopausal zest that I keep hearing about. I have had many tests which say I am not sick...I too thought I must have some dread disease because surely one couldn't feel this tired without being terribly sick. I think I drove myself to depression from all the anxiety. I had no energy for anything and no desire to do anything. I did start on an AD a few months ago. I do feel better. The best thing was that I started sleeping again on the AD. I have days where I feel my old self break through. I have great energy and generally feel great. But I still have these days where I feel sooooooooooo tired...not the tired from not getting enough sleep. Doctors really don't seem to know what this fatigue is from. I guess since we are not dying from it, it's ok... I practice yoga and that seems to help. I walk several times a week and I try to eat well. I am hoping one of these days my good days will out number my bad one...looking for the light at the end of the tunnel.

Oh, I forgot to add that my gyn gave me a new HRT called Angeliq. I had tried Prempro and didn't like it. This new one is suppose to be very low dose and helps with many of the issues of peri and meno. Has anyone ever heard of this or taken it? I am not sure if I will take it....

I amno expert but lots of reading I found that fatigue is also a very common symptom of depression...now I am not talking of the type of depression that puts you in bed and you can't eat and all that, but a chemical, milder form...apparently with neurotransmitters they get off and then the fatigue.
One poster in this thread wrote that ADs are helping her......that is GREAT! For my Mom it was the same that AD helped (her case the zest for life was gone) and then upping the amount of the AD a bit more later gave the zest back completely! ...apparently after you have been on an AD for about 6 weeks you are probably experiencing the effect of the full amount. If you still feel fatigued or other symptoms you may need to up it or add in something like modafinil or another seratonin type AD....now I am NO EXPERT but my mother-in-law happens to be going through a depressive episode and is experiencing fatigue so I found out about it a bit.
I have fatigue myself off and on severly....the other day I worked teaching three 90 minute classes and the next day I was absolutely dead!!!! I was just in the bed all day and convinced that I had something horrible (I am 48 and still with something of a period)....soooo went the doctors for all the standard blood work...sure they won't find anything, but will give me piece of mind...this must be the CRUSHING fatigue that Darling talks about! Thanks everyone for your replies. I am sorry to hear that so many suffer from this horrible fatigue. But its nice to hear what other people experience and use to treat it. I just started on b-complex so i am hoping this will give me the boost i need. I also suffer from fibromyalgia but i don't think the fatigue is coming from that, i unfortunately get more pain than fatigue from my fibro, but who knows my body is soooooooooooo out of whack lately. Or maybe fatigue gets worse with fibro through peri??????? I never knew peri could be so difficult, i can't wait until it is all over with, i am looking for a light at the end of the tunnel, lol.
Hoping you all have a nice weekend.
Thanks again,
Jo Ann

Eyesofgreen...I remember having friends at my table 1.5 years ago and really thinking I would collapse right then and there (mid-day too). My eyes would get soooo heavy. My *crashing fatigue* has since subsided, Thank God. I still have bouts of tiredness (always) but the fatigue dosen't get me anymore at the moment. I think most symptoms come in waves. So, what I mean to say is that I hope you are like me and will get relief from it and have it stay away for quite a while!
