Hi Everyone;
Well, I have finally stopped wishing for another doctor and actually found another one. I had an office appointment yesterday with my GP and waited with about 10 others. The assistant said there would be approximately an hours wait and that the doctor himself had been ill; really ill. I felt I needed to be seen epecially for my dizziness and stomach ailments. Unfortunately the doctor wasn't even there and hadn't seen any patients that day. And this was at 3:15. The assistants didn't even tell the patients the doctor wasn't there. So anyway, I went to use the restroom and my mom who had come with me was looking for me in the bathroom. I was about 10 minutes. My mom had said the assistants wanted to reschedule everyone for next week and I needed to go back into the office to talk with them about rescheduling. I had gone into the office and the doctor had finally come in but all of the other patients had left. The assistant asked me if i wanted to see him for a short time and I took one look at him and he looked horrible!!! He is elderly but he honestly looked like he was on his last legs. sad.gif. I said that I could come back another time because, to be honest, I didn't want him to touch me. That is a horrible thing to say but if you could have seen him like I did....WOW. So today I had gone on the Optima website for HMO's and found a doctor that I had really wanted all along to treat me. I called their office up and they are supposed to send me some paperwork for new patients. And get this, her office is right next door to my current GPs. The doctor is female and approximately 51 years old. Rather young compared to my almost 80 year old current doctor and since she is a female I hope I can be more comfortable explaining what is going on with me; the bouts of diarrhea and constipation, dry membranes; hot with no fever; etc. Maybe she has been through it too. I know that there are female physicians who don't understand this stuff and that they haven't had the problems that are discussed her but I am optimistic. I am praying that she is an understanding woman. And also a wonderful Christian lady that I work with says she is seeing her and this lady I work with really likes her. Anyway wish me luck!! I have an appointment for a full checkup on November 20. Take care

Good Luck Sherri,

Good thing you didn't see your current doctor. If he's that sick, he should not have come into the office. I didn't think that the assistant should have told everyone that the doctor wasn't even in.

Sounds like you will have better luck with the new, woman doctor. I hope that works out for you.

I did try a woman doctor and I didn't like her. My main problem is that she had such a thick accent that I could not for the life of me understand what she was saying. I gave up after 2 visits and went to a highly recommended male doctor who is great.

Good luck & take care,

Thanks Tina,
I guess that would be hard to get good care if you couldn't understand what she was saying. This sounds bad but on the Optima website it allows you to exclude any nationalities from your search. I really wanted someone who speaks English mostly. I have also had doctors with thick accents and couldn't understand anything they said the first time. I kept having to ask them to repeat what they said--I felt bad and embarrassed but for my own health I needed to know what was being said. Take care.

Sherri

PS Glad you have a doctor you really like; they are hard to come by, aren't they?

Stories like this kind of make me hope that these doctors who can't speak English can at least read it--lest their educations be a bit lacking.

To be a teacher you have to take a speech test. I know a woman in MI who failed it because her accent from Georgia was too thick. She had to take speech classes. I guess doctors don't have to take a speech test.
