I guess as my estrogen drops, it is causing horrific day sweating, the kind that drips sweat from your entire body. My scalp is wet and my legs and arms are wet. I almost always have beads of sweat on my upper lip (how attractive) and have to keep wiping my damn lip off. I am washing bras constantly and will wear them out in a few months at this rate. I am just dripping all over.

I have to run a fan at night which helps somewhat but the daytime sweating is really getting bad. I am almost ready to stop menstruating but man, does anyone know what to do about these day sweating episodes? I don't want to live like this. Did I mention I am pretty much wearing all summer clothing during the winter these days? I'm a mess. I also get a bit sick to my stomach with these sweating episodes now too.

I was just thinking about day sweats this morning because I'm having them today. Right when I woke up. Not badly but enough for me to notice. And it isn't anything I'm doing because I've just been working on the computer all day. Hardly working up a sweat. I feel for you! No advice on this one though. I'm clueless.

Hi oncourse, I started having day sweats about 5 years ago at the age of 44. I am jsut now experiencing some relief. Don't know if it's because I started taking Effisoy about a month ago, which is recommended on PS, or not, but I seem to be much better. Could be that I'm just changing symptoms too, which seems to happen often.

Guess it couldn't hurt to try I suppose.

Best Wishes,

Hi Everyone,

I am 54 yrs old and have not had my period for 5 months now and i guess i am still in peri according to my doctor. I havebeen experiencing day sweats for a few weeks now and i am just wondering if this is the same as a hot flash, as i dont always get the red face, just the sweat dripping of me a few times per day. Sometimes my heart feels like its jumping just before or just after. Its very nerve wracking and i want to know if this is normal too.

Thanks. This site has saved my sanity, as when i feel a bit down and scared i just log on and see that i am not alone.

best regards sadiefred

I have not had a period in around the same length of time, and have terrible night sweats and get the day ones as well. This winter I have lived in spring type clothing. I will be 55. I can't say they make me feel ill, but it is just annoying when you are not doing anything physical and your sweating like you have been out mowing the lawn in 90 degree weather. I am going through this natural. I take no meds.

i'm the same as patzz, 55 in a .. argh!! is it only a week now... i can be just sitting here, with the air con blowing cold air at me, and suddenly break into a full sweat... i've not found anything to help, determined to stay on the all natural path... but some days... smile.gif btw.. i've read flaxseed/linseed is supposed to help, but i've not had any relief so far, it's only been a week tho..

Well, just wanted to give some words of support.

My last period was 5 years ago and I used to have those daytime sweats, too. I had them for quite a while. I don't have them anymore. I do have other symptoms - but not those sweats.

I've been doing it without taking anything, too. But I do remember thinking at certain times, "Now I know why women take hormones."

It gets better!

I took Remifemin (black cohosh) and after 2 weeks it worked!
Good luck! Jonie

I just reread this post and will update. I had forgotten all about feeling this way. I went on prometrium shortly after this post and no more day sweats. I hope I don't start up again with the hot summer weather though. I don't know if he prometrium stopped the sweats or the estrogen level just dropped lower and the sweating stopped on its own.

Is Prometrium a prescription?
allyf
Is day sweating the same as night sweats? How is it different from hot flashes?
oncourse
Just updating....sweating again mad.gif

Also getting those lightheaded feelings and feel like I will need to carry bottled water with me everywhere I go for a while.

Floater
oncourse,

are you still taking prometrium? have you added any estrogen? I really think the lightheaded dizzy feeling comes from lack of estrogen. I suffered from that for several years, and on BHRT I rarely get it anymore. As for the sweats, well I sweat with a hot flash, and in the middle of a heat wave, I have a tough time telling if I am hot from the weather, or having flashes!! biggrin.gif I know if I work in the heat (housework, yardword, etc.) I perspire until the sweat is dripping off my face, its kinda disgusting. Drink lots of water though, as you are losing so much through perspiration you could end up dehydrated really fast and not even know it. That could cause some nausea too.

i think i have posted this everywhere now! lol.. in any thread to do with sweating and hot flashes anyway.. i suffered, oh how i suffered with this! i see my previous post here, and it didn't help at all, but Blackmore's Phytolife (soy extract with calcium) combined with Evening Primrose Oil has cut it all down to a bare minimum! might not work for all, but has been so good for me! smile.gif
oncourse
Yes, still taking prometrium (but not as often right now) but my estrogen is about down to nothing so maybe that is it. I am typically pretty bad in hot weather. My fan is running on me even as I type this. I have had worse hot flashes but the sweating is more profuse than actually feeling really hot. Nothing stays the same with menopause.
MyFaith
It was good to see this thread since for almost two months now I've began having drenching day sweats again. I'm taking compounded hormones and haven't dealt with hot flashes or the sweats for many, many months. Suddenly.........I begin this profuse sweating that can be quite embarrassing at times. The hot flashes are causing lightheadedness/dizziness, brain fog, and a disoriented feeling. I've been spotting on and off almost every other day for many weeks...probably more like over a month. I won't mention the body odor issues dry.gif.

Over the last six years of perimenopause I've had "spells" like this so I know that in time it will cease, but if anyone has any suggestions on how to speed up this process I'm listening laugh.gif.

Timely post. For the last week or so I have been having day sweats. Today was the worst yet. I went grocery shopping and the sweat was just pouring off. Had hot flashes with it. I could not get to the car with the AC on full blast soon enough, and it really was not hot outside today at all! A friend of mine refered to peri as having "My own private summer". Now I can relate.

My day/night sweats are completely out of control too. I sweat through all my clothes. At night I
end up stripping, but then I freeze & shiver until the next flash. Soooo frustrating.
oncourse
Ok, now my night sweating and hot flashes are calming down. I am sleeping at night better. I used my little mister and a fan at night and it must have helped. What a roller coaster. You never know what you are going to experience. Probably just a temporary reprieve.

OK I'm really sick of this sweating business and I would like an answer. When I was 38 I had a hysterectomy because my period was continuing off and on for months at a time and a D&C didn't help. At the same time I was having these episodes where I would sweat then break out in chills-it felt like the flu. But I thought maybe it just might be the beginning of menopause but the docs said I was too young. looking back I know darn well that's exactly what it was but at that time there wasn't anybody to really talk to about it ,hence the hysterectomy(1977)
So within a couple years I was on Premarin and remained on it at different strengths for the next 29 years. Each time I would try to quit, the sweats were so bad I couldn't stand it. Even while on Premarin there were times when I was on the point of suicide and I'm not exaggerating one little bit. I quit taking it finally last year when I was 68 and still have the terrible sweats, mostly in the daytime but often at night, too and the covers are flying every which way all night long.I have no idea what it's like to sleep through a night.
I'm trying phytoestrogens right now for a couple of weeks then the doc will be putting me on natural progesteron and that's supposed to balance out my hormones...........we'll see.
I believe that being on Premarin for so many years has caused my hormones to be so out of balance that I now have heart problems. I could be wrong but that's what I think. There just has to be an answer to this suffering. This has affected my life in so many ways and it just isn't right. Here I am almost 70 and still going through menopause !

Welcome to Power Surge. You really have been suffering for too long!
Just a theory, but I really do think that we have to go through that nasty transition period even if we take artificial hormones. This could explain why you are having problems at this late stage. I am 52 and now in my second year of not being able to control my body temperature. I do not take HRT. However, just recently it seems to be getting slightly more bearable. I still believe that once the ovaries no longer produce oestrogen the rest of the endocrine system has to first recognize the loss and then learn to compensate to restore some sort of equilibrium. If we are taking HRT the body never gets the correct message and fails to make the necessary adjustment, until of course the medication is stopped. Then you have to go through the whole process of adjustment. rolleyes.gif Cruel isn't it? sad.gif

Hi Guided - You may want to do a little research on hormone balance to get some answers to your continuing symptoms. Dr. Elizabeth Vliet is a well-respected endocrinologist who has written several books and does a talk radio show on the internet. She did a program on restoring hormone balance after hysterectomy last month and her shows are archived so you can go back and listen to them at any time. If you go to www.blogtalkradio.com/drvliet and click on the program from 7/14/08 some of the information may be helpful and give you some info for your next doctor visit.

Wow, guided you have really been thru the worst time ((((HUGS)))) to you...I agree with XIII above, at some point you have to go thru these horrible changes, yes HRT can help but only if you stay on it for life.....once you go off you are going to experience the same symptoms that those who do not take them experience...it is juch such a shame that this has gone on for so long for you! When you say the hormones resulted in Heart problems what do you mean? Have you had a doctor actually check this out? I hope it is as simple as just the palps that many ladies here discuss....good luck to you dear and keep coming back for the reassurance and chance to vent! Take care!

Dear Ladies
Looks like I am going to be on HRT for life!Have accepted that and it is o.k.When I tried to go off it slowly it was Hell.Am afraid I am not good at suffering. Also know a couple of older ladies, one in her seventies, the other in her early eighties who had no HRT treatment during Menopause and are still plauged by hot flashes and insomnia.Everything is very confusing.

Here in The Middle East we do not have alternative Doctors nor anyone specialising in Acupuncture as wouldn't mind giving it a try.The climate here is already unbearable enough without "Flashing and Flushing"even more.Always so happy when I travel to London to visit family and just soak up that refreshing rain!

Stay as cool as you can

Elizabeth,
Thanks so much for your lovely welcome when I posted in "Introduce Yourself". A couple of years ago I was on sequential patches where I would have a period and got to the stage where I was really fed up with this so tried the same brand in the continuous patch where you are not supposed to get a period. This did not suit me as I was spotting a fair bit so that is when I decided to go cold turkey off the patches. Wasn't aware this was not recommended! Needless to say after 3 weeks the flashes and sweats were coming every 40 minutes or so and they weren't mild ones, they just about knocked me off my feet. I would get his strange aura before they would start, almost like a feeling of impending doom and weakness, then would feel like I was in a sauna fully clothed and then I would start sweating all over (entire body). It was horrid but I was determined to try and ride it out to see if after a few months they would start to ease. No such luck so after 6 months I decided to try the bioidenticals in a troche (also tried the cream but didn't seem to work for me). Worked quite well for about 15 months, but that is when the other horrible symptoms started ie. internal trembling, anxiety, panic and nervous feelings. So now I have been off the bios for a month. Was doing okay apart from the flashes and sweats but last couple of days have had the trembly feeling again (but not as bad as before) just mildly. Today I have started on a tablet similar to remifemin but it has hawthorn in it as well for heart health so I'm hoping to give this a good try. Can't have soy as I'm allergic. But, on the mornings when I have ground flaxseed on my porridge the hot flashes abate for a couple of hours! Will let everyone know how this goes.
Bye for now,
Rehma

Dear Rehma
Have heard some good things about flaxseed from a couple of friends who use it.I really do hope you feel better very soon

Any advice or support.Am always here dear friend.I live in Amman Jordan so flasing and flushing in very hot temperatures is something very normal for me and I am on HRT.

Stay well and keep posting

All the best,my friend
